Under 6 Green

The Under 6 Green team played Broadview at harpers field on Sunday and once again didn't disappoint myself or any of their parents. After winning the toss and kicking with the wind, captain Angus had one of his best games of the year. All the boys were up and about however the defenders were getting a bit cold. If Jacob Davies kick wasn't big enough already the 5 goal breeze helped him slot a goal which ended up in the creek. The midfield with Toby, Luke Angus, Zac and Lukas were sharing the ball like pros to give the forwards plenty to work with. Kicking against the wind in the second quarter Ethan Shortt, Nicholas, Maxy B, Jacob and Mason were everywhere trying to get the ball forward while the de-fenders were manning up and playing in front to keep the score down The third quarter was much the same as the first with Noah, Jackson,Tyler and Ethan medlen dominating the mid-field to give the forwards plenty of options and Ethan medlen having one of his best games of the year and may very well have leather poisoning. Overall the boys had arguably the best game of the year against a good team we played in round one who would have beaten us convincingly (if we kept score) Thanks to all the parents for all your support and help throughout the year and thanks to my under 6 green ratbags, it's been a pleasure to coach you guys and cannot believe how you have improved over 15 games Keep practicing and hopefully we will see you all back next year for the mighty kookaburras.

Under 7 Gold With the last training done and dusted for the season that saw the boys only narrowly defeat the adults; in what was a very skilful display, the boys of Golden Grove were ready for their final challenge against Gaza. We'd already played Gaza earlier in the year so we knew how they played and who to watch out for Sunday morning the sun was shining but there was a reasonable breeze running down the ground; it would great to win the toss and kick with it to start the game off!! We had 2 final pieces of the puzzle to add to our game plan: Code Blue; handball, handball, handball. Get the ball to as many team mates as you can TEAMWORK Code Green: free for all. Do what you like. If you’ve got them, show me your tricks, I want you to run amuck!! Have fun! In an unusual event Gaza were very short of players so everyone would get a full game again!! Skipper for the day was Harry Slater. We discussed which end we wanted to kick to if we won the toss: we lost the toss. But we got to kick with the wind anyway!! - Which would show to be a costly mistake by the opposing captain. The boys huddled in for one last ‘Gee-up’ before we ran out. The crowd were behind them cheering loud; chants of ‘Come on Kooka-burras!’ and ‘Go Boys, Go’ were yelled out. As the parents separated to open up the ground, they unveiled the last game banner for the boys to run through. Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold? WE ARE!!! We’re starting in Code Blue boys – share the ball with each other!! With a delayed start the umpire held the ball aloft. We were in our positions ready to pounce and with the sound of a whistle – we were away. We started with a team blitz in the centre; great tap from Ajay Visnyai down to Caleb Zanker who handballed on the up to a running Jordan Ruchs; BANG a great pass to Bailey Casey on the club side forward flank, he turns on the left to hit Adam Barnett who turned and burned and just like Eddy Betts a snap across the body – GOAL!!! Great start Kookaburras, that’s what we’re looking for. The boys had the crowd on their feet already – WE ARE ON TO-DAY BOYS!! The Backline again were superb when required, but with the control we had in the centre, the Men’s Department had it easy in the first. Harry Hensby started where he left off last week – on fire (this time Dad was back to see it!!) Oliver Ward was in the mix of things too – unlucky shot at goal hitting the post! At quarter time we had the confidence to take the game on. With a quick drink and a WE ARE!!! – We were back out there. The second quarter started much like the first. Bailey and Adam were dominating the centre; because we were still in Code Blue we were sharing the ball around nicely. The Skipper Harry Slater was unlucky in the first and most of the second quarter but he kept working hard and got some valuable touches in the end – great persistence Harry!

Under 7 Gold ...continued

Up forward it was The Alby Bradshaw & Zak Dimasi show – everyone was tuned in. With some great passing resulting in Goals it was a clear domina-tion. Down back Miller Jolly was sharing the ball with Caleb and Kyan en-suring tremendous rebound. Hamish Martyn up forward got into position well and took a terrific pack mark but the wind blew his shot on goal off course. Great second quarter boys!! At the long break the oranges were instrumental in revitalising the boys. If some of them had GPS trackers on they would’ve melted in the heat they were displaying. Everything is at full pace – we haven’t put a foot wrong and we’re not about to start. The second half is about to start and they’re going to come at us hard – Who’s gonna be brave? Who’s gonna be tough? Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold? WE ARE!!!! The third quarter, the premiership quarter started and we were hot!! We had great centre breaks across the group. Big Heart Little Zak again showed is tough stuff and Alby Bradshaw had it on a string. Riley Roseburg got fierce this quarter and took them on – great stuff Riley I knew you could do it. Jayden Djorem got busy like last week and locked the ball in when we needed him to – strong work Jayden. Hamish Martyn again showed his skill with the handball and created many plays. Up forward the boys were working well in Code Blue. Jayden Jackman got some good touches and Jordan Ruchs took an amazing mark but too far out to score. He handballed to Brodie Murphy who dodged and weaved his way through traffic and BANG – SAUSAGE ROOOOOLLLLLLL!!! For the rest of the quarter it’s Code Green – go for it boys!! Riley Baker took the invitation and got as many touches as he could, even with an almighty blister on his foot!! At the last break, everyone was up and about. The crowd were on their feet screaming ‘Come on Kookaburras!! Great Work Boys, Keep it up!!’ We Are One!! One Team that started the year together. One Team that took on the best. One Team that plays for each other. And for the last time this season we huddled together as One. It’s the last quarter boys, it’s time to shine boys, show me what you can do, give it everything you’ve got!! – Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold? WE ARE!!! Go gett’em Kookaburras!! The last quarter was about to start. We could all sense we were in for a show. As you looked around the ground The Boys of Golden Grove were on their toes, some were zipping about, the backs were in front of their opponents, the forwards were ready, the centres were eager. The ball was held aloft – let’s go. We were on the board in seconds; great work by the centres – Jordan and Ajay had an absolute field day this quar-ter and Riley Baker pushed his way through many packs (I was beginning to wonder if there really was a blister is-sue!) Jayden Jackman found the footy and the backs were sensational this quarter but the display that everyone paid their money for was up forward. It was a Goal Fest!! The boys had it zipping around and were toying with the opposition. Caleb combined with Kyan Smith who ran in and booted an awesome sausage roll. Miller Jolly also snapped one through with some class whilst Adam Barnett in his typical style sold a few pups before ensuring his ended up through the big ones. Bailey Casey managed to be in just the right spots in the last and slotted through 3 big goals which ensured we finished on a high. Goals: Bailey Casey 4, Alby Bradshaw 3, Adam Barnett 3, Miller Jolly 1, Brodie Murphy 1, Kyan Smith 1. In summary this week’s game had everything we could ask for. We had some strong individual performances whilst we played our TEAM game. The improvement of ball movement since the start of the season has been outstanding and the boys should all be very, very proud of themselves. Some of the guts and determination the boys have shown this year is inspiring – many times I’ve been choked up by the selflessness and the heart they show for each other – especially when I know they don’t want to. Special mentions to Joey and Sam for helping out these last few weeks, you’ve played an important role and thankyou for coming out to training and the games. As the coach I would like to say that I have totally enjoyed the experience and I am so proud by how the boys lis-tened (mostly) and followed instructions on game day. They have taken their game to another level and I say this without any bias (maybe just a tiny bit) that no other team this year could match the way they played in terms of TEAM. Other teams may’ve scored more goals on occasion but at this age there are many more important skills to learn. Anyone can kick a goal. But not everyone can handball, or pass the ball by foot, or run to space and more importantly LOOK for a team mate to give the ball to. We are the best at that by a country mile. Plus if you do these things well – there will be plenty of goals to be scored!!! Outstanding year!! Who is Golden Grove Under 7 Gold?! WE ARE!!!

Under 8 Green Our final game of the year was away to Tea Tree Gully on Sunday and we were excited to celebrate Louis’ 50th game and finish the year on a high! The boys loved running through the banner again and we were fired up for a big game to make sure we went undefeated for the year. Plus we were playing in honour of Alex whose wrist was in a cast after an accident at training on Thursday night – get well soon Alex! There was a strong breeze heading to the western end which helped us get off to a flying start in the first quarter. Jace got the first clearance and kicked a pinpoint pass to Mackye, who then kicked it on to Zach who kicked a point. Zach then intercepted the point kick-out, straight-ened up and slotted the goal! Evan then showed his speed to win the next clearance which found Zach who kicked another goal. 50-gamer Louis then got involved winning a hard-ball-get in the forward lines, taking a bounce and slotting a goal, along with a point later too. Jordan had some solid possessions in defence, Indy and Logan fed the ball through the middle, and Harley got on the end of a couple to slot two goals and a point. Amazing start to the game! The second quarter was a little harder though going against the breeze, but Liam won our first clearance and sent it down to the forward third, allowing Rhys to run onto the ball kick a goal. Kam showed some grunt to win a hard-ball-get and run in to kick a point, and another shot on goal later unfortunately missed too. Despite not getting much op-portunity to score ourselves, we still held Tea Tree Gully pretty well with Zach doing some good intercepts in the middle and Noah chased hard. The third quarter was a goal-fest again, with Jordan winning the ball out the centre and finding Indy on the lead. With the breeze behind him, any kick in the forward line from Indy was always going to be around the mark and he finished the quarter with 2.2. Ryan and Jace worked hard in the forward line to keep the ball locked in our half, and Jace made the opposition pay with some handy intercepts and two goals. Kam was working hard to win the ball in the centre too and Mackye took some good possessions in defence. Our final quarter for the year was another cracker, even against the wind. Logan took a couple of strong marks in the centre, while Harley and Zach teamed together to add an-other four goals on the board. Louis added another point to his tally, while Blake was cleaning up in defence and Ryan won his fair share of clearances. There aren't many words to sum up what an amazing season this has been for the Under 8 Green Machine! Everyone has improved, we've gelled together as a team and always had everyone contributing on game day. Damo's three focus areas of being hungry for the ball, staying on your feet and manning up has been executed by the boys brilliantly and helped us achieve an UNDEFEATED SEASON!! Big things lie ahead for this group in 2016, enjoy your summer and see you back next year! Scorers: Zach 4.1, Harley 4.1, Indy 2.2, Jace 2.0, Louis 1.2, Rhys 1.0, Kam 0.1.

Under 8 Gold Under 8 Gold played against Broadview at Harpers Field on Sunday, and celebrated another special milestone - 50 games for Jack Goreing. The first quarter was a tight tussle, with Broadview dominating the centre, but our backline stood tall, with Matthew LeRay marking everything that came his way. Bailey Maddeford's determination meant that he was at the bottom of a few packs, and the game opened up with some strong passages of play into the forward line, where Jack scored the first of his four goals for the day. The second quarter was where Under 8 Gold dominated, piling on five quality goals, and keeping Broadview scoreless. Jordan Miller had an excellent game, and had plenty of the ball in the forward third, while Braden Carpenter made the most of his chances, scoring three in the term. Tyson Karklis took one of the marks of the day going back with the flight of the ball. The third quarter was where Corey Edwards made the centre his own, rack-ing up clearance after clearance, and working his way through traffic without missing a beat! The Kookaburra defence again stood tall, only allowing Broadview one entry into their forward line for a goal. Brooke Silby again had an excellent game, not shying away from a contest, and her marking in de-fence was another highlight. The forward line capitalised on some great delivery, where Jack completed an excellent performance in his milestone game. All in all, another brilliant team game from Under 8 Gold, to cap off what has been a stellar season, with the team going from strength to strength, developing skills and team work, and putting everything they've learned into practice, to finish the 2015 season undefeated - well done to everyone! Goal scorers: Jack Goreing 4.0, Braden Carpenter 3.1, Corey Edwards 2.0, Matthew LeRay 2.0, Jordan Miller 1.4, Owen Jarrad 1.0, Josh Caldicott 1.0, Brooke Silby 1.0, Tyson Walters 0.1, Noah French 0.1

What a great day for the last game of the year vs Para Hills. This week’s captain was Alex Pengilly with Seth Lewis-Christie as vice-captain. I could tell from the warmup that our boys were ready to go from the first bounce. It was Jakson Ray who got us off to a flying head start tackling hard win-ning the ball out of the pack. Jakson also managed to kick a goal in what I would have to say would be his best game this year. Well done Jakson! The game very quickly turned into a one sided contest as the Kooka-burra’s displayed some great skill and pressure, and although our team was dominant everyone contributed and the team work displayed was fantastic. Luke, Alex, Isaac and Wyatt all played well all four were working hard around the ground applying strong tackles and taking great marks. Daniel Hewitt, Seth and Tyson were relentless in the backline ensuring the ball did not get out, especially Tyson who did a spectacular dive to save what would have been Para Hills only goal. Daniell Cowie and Jayden have improved out of sight both players determination to win the ball from a tough situa-tion was outstanding and it was particularly exciting to see Jayden take a huge mark in the goal square and kick the goal effortlessly. Tom had another outstanding match dominating the second half not only did he take the big marks and long kicks that we have known to come from Tom, but this week he was also roving the ball at ground level and kicking goals as well. Tom’s team game and sportsmanship is outstanding. Great Game Tom! Brodie rocked up not quite feeling the best and start the first quarter on the bench, but it was long until Brodie was into the thick of it taking marks and dodging and weaving around players. Great Game Brodes! Xander had a really good game kicking a few goals and almost pulling of mark of the year. Riley was working hard around the ground and when getting the ball centred it every time hitting a kookaburra on the chest and consequently getting the goal. Danyle Dobie and Talan had outstanding matches their outside run was outstanding and their toughness to win the ball in a tough contest led the Kookaburras from the front. Well done boys! Overall great team effort! I would like to thank all the parents that helped out on the day. I would like to thank the team for a brilliant year it is exciting to imagine the type of footy they will be playing in a few year’s time. I would like to put a big thankyou out to Liz for performing the team manager role which at times can be a thankless role and as I sure you will agree does a fantastic job of managing our team. Won’t see you Tuesday Night! Wahoo

Under 9 Gold

Under 10 Blue A cracking sunny day presented at home on the top oval for our Blue Burras to take on Gepps Cross. Our Blue Burras were up for a superb last game, led nicely by Brodie Tilley in the ruck tapping everything to advantage, Waylon having 1 of his best games mark-ing several times overhead, taking the game on and kicking truly from 20, Koby pulling out the theatrics with check sides from the pockets to score repeatedly and Aaron running rampant on a half forward flank to score several times. Defensively, Lachlan and Bro-die Edwards were rocks, and Brandon was able to rebound many times to setup new attacking forays. Thomas had some nice pas-sages too, and Tom was strong in defence and at the ball. We swapped things around to get everyone involved with the result never being in question, and Jake Winter, Jack and Max started dominating the middle in the 3rd quarter, with Brodie Edwards starting to take some nice marks in attack. Foxx was oh so close several times to scoring his first goal for the club and Jake Shannon was able to lurk behind a pack and run onto a nice passage and finish truly. Callum and Sam had cracking starts but got caught try-ing to do a little too much. This was rectified at half time and the 3rd saw them both get nice long kicks forward. Jacob and Jett had various roles today, both forward and back and Jett even did some nice ruck work in the last quarter. Gepps Cross snared 3 late goals when the game was done and dusted, just banging it long and hoping, otherwise our boys showed their full development by taking control and not letting go until we had convincingly won, 9 goals to 4. An appropriate finish of such a strong development year, nicely capped with our final bonding session at inflatable world. We have a presentation night next week and Presentation day to close a rewarding chapter to all Blue Burras on our 3 year journey. A huge thank you to Shane Gomez, Team Manager of the Century, putting in countless hours and never faltering to hold up our values of 1 email a week, strong communication and always up for friendly advice. A big CHEERS to Shelley Winter for First Aid, Shane Innes (Forward line Coach), Mike Bray (Midfield Coach), James Delia (Fundraising Manager), Gregg Stevenson (Ground Marshal), Sally Carpenter for Photos every week and Scott Car-penter for Fruit Supply every week and all the parents for helping with umpiring, bbq work and training – it’s been an honor and a privilege to coach your kids in having fun, learning the game, making friends for life and being a part of their development – well done to all and thank you once again!!!!

Under 12 Red Congratulations to Harrison Chillingworth who celebrated 100 games for the Kookaburras! Great achievement!

Under 11 Red We entered the last game of the minor round against Walkerville at Harpers Top Oval looking for a confidence building showing. Good form was on display last week and the boys were challenged to con-tinue that against a potential opponent later in the finals. Sunny condi-tions greeted us with a slight breeze heading across the ground. Harry K and Nic attended the toss and we were kicking to the One Tree Hill road end to start the game. Three U10 players joined us for today's game: Brandon, Oliver and Brodie. First quarter: The boys started strong with early pressure on the opposition. Rebound play with Nathan finding the ball on the wing linking up with Brandon who passed to Riley B on to Cooper W for a point. A disputed ball at the forward 50 was picked up by Nic kicking across the body to Cooper W who in turn finished from a slight angle for the first goal of the game. Excellent contest after a kick-in with a smother on an opponents kick falling to Brandon who goaled with a quick snap from 25m. The centre square was working well dominating the clearances and creating continued for-ward movement. An excellent smother by Nathan on the wing fell to Kayne J who ran inside 50, kicked to a pack situation and the crumb falling to Cooper W who sailed through his second. Walkerville were being kept at bay until their first two forays inside fifty, both of which resulted in goals against the tide. A further snap on the siren by the opposition and despite our boys being on top for the majority of the quarter, three late goals gave the opposition momentum. Quarter time: 3-4 to 3-1. Second-quarter: Aidan H started the quarter strongly with two good marks in defensive fifty. Our defensive wall was holding firm helping to lock the ball in the forward zone. Strong play in contested situations by Liam and Kayne J, the latter bursting clear of the pack to push forward with his kick falling to Corey who snapped a goal from 20m out. Nic pushed forward from the resultant centre play, a free kick to Nathan resulting in a goal. Walkerville went forward for a replying goal to finish the half. Half time: 5-5 to 4-3. Third-quarter: A Brady free kick in the right forward pocket, spotting up Liam in the goal square for a good confidence building start to the term. Brady then intercepted in the left forward pocket, pushing the ball down to Nic who picked up cleanly and de-livered to Kane H for a check side goal. Pressure was lifting around the contests. Cooper W and Angus repelled well from defence. Jordi showed strong play winning a one-on-one. Aidan H repelled well under pressure. Defence held strong only conceding one goal while scoring two at the other end and extending the lead to 11 points. Three quarter time: 7-5 to 5-6. Final quarter: Kayne J gained an immediate clearance out of the centre kicking to the left forward pocket where Jordi picked up and kicked to Corey, snapping an early goal to stretch the margin to just under three goals in a tight contest. Harry M and Angus worked well to clear defence. Liam marked low giving to Nic, on to Oliver who found Corey, passing to Nathan who finished well from 30m. Play was sent forward again, Harry K getting it on the boot where Nathan snapped again for another goal. The momentum of the game was now all one way and Walkerville's resilience was broken. Nathan stopped an opposition movement out of their backline, taking a mark inside the for-ward 50 and running in for his third of the quarter. Brodie with strong marking up in defence. Kayne J continued to win the footy around the ground and through the centre. When the siren sounded it was a resounding win in a game highlighted by strong pressure and good teamwork. Final score: 11-6 to 5-7. The excitement on the boys faces was justified with a win built from excellent teamwork, good skills in open play, clean overhead marking and accurate goal-kicking that kept the scoreboard ticking over. The boys were able to hold momentum for the majority of the game keeping Walkerville to a low score while converting their own opportunities when chances arose. They head into the finals with a win over the pacesetters of the competition and a feeling that their potential is clearly good enough to go very deep into the finals. Next week sees a Friday night Elimination final against Athelstone at Payneham Oval. Thank you to the U10 players who filled in this week.
