Pinehurst No 7

Pinehurst No.2North Carolina

Pinehurst ResortVillage of Pinehurst, North Carolina

Situated on the east coast of the United States, North Carolina is home to many golf courses with legendary designers such as Tom Fazio, Rees Jones and Robert Trent Jones Junior all putting their names to venues in the region.

Anchored by the Village of Pinehurst, Pinehurst Resort is home to Donald Ross’ No. 2 course, home of the U.S. Open in 1999, 2005 and again in 2014. With seven other golf courses on-site and first class accommodations, there is nowhere better to stay in North Carolina.

Pinehurst is ideally located in the heart of North Carolina, two hours’ drive from Charlotte Douglas airport and just over an hour from Raleigh Durham airport.

Golf is playable year-round at Pinehurst with mid-summer temperatures as you’d expect in a southern state hitting an average high of 31°C but spring and autumn are perfect for golf when things are a little cooler.

The largest golf resort in the USA, Pinehurst is laid out over 5,500 acres of land with the first golf course – No.1 - opening in 1897. One of the unique features of Pinehurst is the collection of courses that have been over a century in the making. With eight courses of differing age and design, variety sits perfectly alongside quality.

Golf at PinehurstPinehurst’s best known course, No.2, was completed in 1907 by designer Donald Ross, and is often considered the masterpiece of his 400+ portfolio of courses. Whilst No.2 might be the star of the show, each of the other seven courses offers its own challenge. Pinehurst No.1 and No.3 are decidedly shorter than their counterparts but what they lack in length, they more than make up for in compact greens and tactical bunkers to test your short game. A second favourite to No.2 for many, No.4 stands out amongst the other designs due to its waste bunkers and classic Fazio shaping.

Ellis Maples succeeded Donald Ross and Pinehurst No.5 is his sole addition, the last of the golf courses that play out of the main clubhouse and tees off next to No.3. George Fazio and his nephew Tom added Pinehurst No.6 in 1979 and Tom returned in 2005 to toughen up the green complexes to make it the golf course it is today.

At 7216 yards, No.7 is one of the longest courses at Pinehurst and is set on some of the resorts’ most dramatic and undulating terrain with challenging shots into elevated greens in abundance. The collection is completed by the recent addition of No.8, another Fazio design and the most spacious and scenic of the resorts' courses. Undoubtedly, you are spoilt for choice regardless of your skill.

Pinehurst Resort

AccommodationsThere are four options available within the village – The Carolina, The Holly Inn, The Manor and more relaxed accommodation in the on-site condos.

You can stay at the beautiful Carolina which is a century-old hotel. Dubbed the ‘Queen of the South’ the Carolina has 230 Four-Diamond guest rooms including suites.

The wonderful Holly Inn, with 82 guest rooms, is an upmarket hotel that houses Pinehurst's best four-diamond restaurant, the 1895 grille.

If you are looking for a more economical stay then look no further than The Manor. With 42 ample sized guest rooms and a resort shuttle service, this sportsman’s style lodge is one of Arnold Palmer’s favourites.

Located adjacent to the Carolina Hotel, are the Villas, which feature individually keyed rooms with an adjoining parlor, dining and bar area; a good option for groups of golfers who want their own space.

There is so much to do on site. Apart from the eight golf courses there are 24 tennis courts, two swimming pools, nine restaurants, including a Scottish tavern and the Donald Ross Grill.

The Spa at Pinehurst has been awarded four stars by Forbes Travel Guide and is the perfect place to relax after a day on the course. Whether you choose one treatment or a full treatment package, you will be sure to enjoy complete tranquillity.

Some of the most popular activities outside of the resort include fishing, or boating on Lake Pinehurst, the NC Zoo, wineries and the nearby Seagrove Pottery area. There really is something for all tastes. The lovely North Carolina beaches are just over 2 hours away.

North Carolina offers a wonderfully varied region with plenty to do to keep you busy. The nearest town centre is Southern Pines and you’ll find good nightlife and restaurants if you want to visit the surrounding area and experience some original local hospitality.

We Recommend... (Joe Bowrey Sales Consultant Worldwide)Summer is the warmest period but still great for golf in the sunshine. Temperatures from June to August can get close to 30˚C but average out at around 24˚C.

The winter is cooler and prices are reflected in this. The temperature averages between 6˚C and 16˚C, and is a good option before the weather really cools off in December.

The premium time to be in North Carolina for golf is the spring and autumn (April to May and September to October), the average temperature is 18˚C and is perfect for golf.

Marina Inn at Grande Dunes

Ocean Course, Sea Pines ResortSouth Carolina

Myrtle Beach

South Carolina is a true golfing paradise. With over 360 championship calibre golf courses you’ll find exceptional destinations such as Kiawah Island and Hilton Head, as well as the famous Myrtle Beach.

The breath-taking views and elevation changes of the mountain courses, along with gorgeous layouts along the lakes, rivers and beaches across the state create a stunning landscape to enjoy some of the best golf in the USA.

From luxurious 5* hotels to self-catering apartments close to the nightlife, the accommodation options are just as impressive, and combine to form a memorable golfing experience.

Marina Inn at Grande DunesWith 60 miles of golf-packed coastline to enjoy, it’s little wonder that Myrtle Beach is such a popular golf holiday destination. The choice of courses is almost endless and with an equally impressive array of nightlife and off-course attractions, it’s clear that South Carolina golf breaks don’t come much better than those on offer in the ‘Grand Strand’.

The spectacular 18-hole championship Resort Course at Grande Dunes has been gently sculpted out of naturally wooded landscape and set on high ground offering panoramic views over the Marina Inn Hotel at Grande Dunes, the waterway and maritime forest. Using many elevation changes, wide Bermuda grass fairways and 34 acres of lakes, this parkland course is a real pleasure to play and one of the best in the Myrtle Beach area. If staying onsite at the delightful Marina Inn, you also have the opportunity to play the Members Course at Grande Dunes – similar in style to the Resort Course with wide Bermuda grass fairways and contoured greens. The Marina Inn offers a luxurious 5* retreat within the Grande Dunes resort. All 66 suites are spacious and views over the Intracoastal Waterway can be enjoyed from every guest room.

South Carolina

We Recommend... (John Bowles Sales Consultant Worldwide)If you are in search of a bit more luxury then the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes is a fantastic choice. With Grande Dunes Golf Club just across the waterway and plenty more golf in close vicinity why not enjoy a more indulgent break?

Myrtle Beach

Myrtlewood Villas & Golf ResortYou’ll find two courses onsite at Myrtlewood Golf Club - the Palmetto Course is highly popular and a favourite among locals with its wide, fairways that wind through stunning pine forests. Look out for a multitude of hazards hidden away – particularly the bunkers which will have you testing your sand play.

Its sister course, Pine Hills, is the only course in Myrtle Beach to have been designed by award-winning architect Arthur Hills and is arguably tougher than its counterpart. It asks for skillfully planned and placed shots amongst its many water hazards and you’ll love the beautifully manicured finish.

Ideal for groups looking for a self-catering option, Myrtlewood Villas & Golf Resort is located in the heart of Myrtle Beach and offers great one and two bedroom apartments. The villas are set within the rolling fairways of Myrtlewood Golf Club and are just one mile away from the world famous ‘Broadway at the Beach’ – the hub for bars, restaurants and evening entertainment.

We Recommend... (Adam Ward Head of Product)Great in the spring and autumn, it gets a little warm in the summer for golf but not if you play early. September is a great month, it is cooling down and the rates are very attractive. There are some fantastic value options in self catering villas.

Legends Golf & ResortLegends Golf & Resort is a Scottish inspired resort and is home to three outstanding courses and a mixture of luxurious two and three bedroomed villas - perfect for golfers wanting a bit more flexibility. The resort facilities are second to none including the three onsite golf courses – The Moorland, Heathland and Parkland.

The Moorland provides the greatest challenge and is considered one of ‘The’ courses to play along the east coast due to its sculptured terrain and deep sinking bunkers. The Heathland has a distinct links feel with beautiful views across the coastline whereas the Parkland course – the newest addition – is more diverse with tree-lined fairways and multi-level greens.

We Recommend... (Joe Dent USA Sales Consultant)You'll find that you could save by travelling in the peak of summer - just make sure that you pick early tee times for the golf as it will get up near 30˚C in the middle of the day.

Hilton HeadHilton Head Island, South Carolina

Hilton Head Island sits in the southern-most tip of South Carolina and despite being just 42 square miles in size, it packs a punch in terms of golf with 24 golf courses including some of the world’s most iconic names. Coupled with an endless array of attractions including shopping centres, fine dining, white sandy beaches, Hilton Head is an ideal golfing location.

Golf at Hilton HeadOn-site at The Sea Pines Resort is the Pete Dye designed Harbour Town Golf Links - one of the most distinguished US PGA Tour courses and regularly named in the Golf Digest Top 20 courses in the US. Its iconic par-4 18th overlooks the sweeping waterway known as the Calibogue Sound and you’re greeted by the famous hooped Harbour Town lighthouse as backdrop to the final green.

The Ocean Course is the oldest on Hilton Head and remains a favourite with visitors. A classic design – its strategically placed lagoons and bunkers make for a challenging round and you’ll embrace the true coastal experience.

Heron Point, by Pete Dye, is the newest addition and a typical Pete Dye design. It has recently undergone a multi-million dollar transformation to offer a new and improved playing experience.

The Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course, George Fazio Course and Robert Cupp Course, to name just a few, are all renowned and recognised as being amongst the best in the South East. Shipyard Golf Club offers three loops of 9-holes and perhaps encounter an alligator or two on your way round! Port Royal Golf Club, Oyster Reef and Palmetto Hall Plantation also provide stunning golf experiences against the beautiful backdrop of Port Royal Sound.

AccommodationsThere are many accommodation options on Hilton Head to suit all budgets and requirements. Three of our favourites include The Sea Pines Resort, The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa and the Omni Hilton Head Ocean from Resort.

With 43 years of tradition, The Sea Pines Resort was the first resort on the island and many still deem it to be the finest. Luxury, splendour and history define Hilton Head’s original resort which is located on 5,000 acres of ocean frontage. Accommodation options are flexible with The Inn at Harbour Town offering 60 elegant guest rooms and suites or for a self-catering option there are villas also available on-site.

Situated on the edge of the Atlantic, The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa is a wonderful environment to relax and unwind. Conveniently located for golf at any of the 24 courses across the Island. There are a mix of bedroom types to choose from including ocean view guestrooms with private balcony.

The Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort is one of South Carolina's premier destinations. There are 323 guest rooms available all offering magnificent oceanfront views and access to the three fabulous on-site courses - Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront, the George Fazio and the Arthur Hills Golf Course.

Kiawah Island

Kiawah IslandCharleston, South Carolina

Located on the east coast just 20 miles south of Charleston is Kiawah Island - home of the infamous Ryder Cup battle ‘the war on the shore’ in 1991 and Rory's 2012 USPGA victory.. Kiawah is rarely out of the tournament spotlight having hosted an enviable array of PGA events. On the famed Ocean Course, it's the Pete Dye design that is arguably one of the world’s great layouts. Joining an all-star cast are the four other courses at Kiawah – all boasting designers including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Tom Fazio. The Resort is perfectly positioned along the Atlantic coastline. The Sanctuary is the height of luxury and one of the world’s great hotels, and the resort villas are a perfect self-catering option.

Charleston is the oldest and second-largest city in South Carolina and is renowned for its rich history, architecture and southern charm. From the UK, fly into Charlotte where you’ll make a short one hour connecting flight down to Charleston.

We Recommend... (Daniel Grave CEO Golfbreaks.com USA)The villa prices tend to tail off either side of summer so spring and autumn are fantastic times to get a great price whilst the weather is excellent for golf. The Sanctuary is renowned for its luxurious surroundings so consider a December break if you're happy with cooler conditions and an attractive price to match.

The Sunshine State has more golf courses than any other in America, making it the perfect option for a golf holiday.

There are more than 1000 courses to choose from, spread right across the state from Sawgrass in the north all the way down to Miami in the south, via Tampa and Orlando in the centre.

These courses often top the ‘must play’ and ‘top 100’ lists on both sides of the Atlantic due to their exceptional quality and tournament heritage. Perhaps one of the reasons why Florida is so well loved as a golf destination is the wonderful climate – Spring and Autumn are particularly popular travel periods due to the delightful mid-temperatures but it’s ideal for Winter golf and a haven for sun-worshippers in the hotter summer months.

Northern Florida - JacksonvilleThe northern section of Florida is home to the World Golf Hall of Fame at the World Golf Village, which also features two incredible courses designed by four of the greatest players ever to grace a fairway (Nicklaus, Palmer, Sarazen, Snead).

A visit to Northern Florida wouldn’t be complete without a round on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course – host of the so called "5th Major", with the famous 17th hole featuring on many people's lists of holes they have to play.

Central Florida - Orlando & TampaPerennially famous as a holiday destination full of great entertainment and attractions, Orlando is also a dream location for a truly memorable golf holiday. With more than 170 golf courses, over 20 golf academies and some of the world's most prestigious tournaments, Orlando is a true golfer's paradise.

Off the course, entertainment is in plentiful supply with the bright lights and attractions of the famous Orlando resorts of Disney, Universal Studios and Sea World. Orlando offers a wide variety of accommodation options particularly around International Drive including Embassy Suites, Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando and Vista Cay. All are in the perfect location to experience all of the attractions along International Drive.

Southern Florida - Miami & Palm BeachArt deco architecture meets a party vibe in the Latin-influenced city of Miami. Whether you're hoping to hang out with the South Beach party crowd before you hit a round or two, or simply looking for some superb golf, you’ll find it all here.

Lush tropical mangroves and long sandy beaches, as well as first-class accommodation make this an unforgettable golf break choice.

Florida

The Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa is one of the finest 'stay & play' resorts in Florida offering 5* luxurious accommodation, world-famous championship golf, excellent leisure and spa facilities and no less than seven restaurants and bars to choose from. Home to the PGA Championship since 2006 and considered to be the location for the ‘5th Major’ on the PGA Tour, THE PLAYERS Stadium Course offers an unforgettable round. The highlight is indisputably the iconic Par 3 17th, with its island green. A worthy partner to the world-renowned Stadium Course, a round on Dye’s Valley Course is a must when staying at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa.

Villas of Grand Cypress, Orlando The Villas of Grand Cypress Golf Resort is located in the heart of Central Florida in the most idyllic of settings. A relaxing retreat away from the hustle and bustle, this magnificent resort is surrounded by 1,500 acres of pristine greenery; alongside scenic water hazards that enhance the on-site world class golf courses.

The North, South and East Course is a selection of nine-hole layouts that combine with distinct qualities for an enjoyable round for golfers of all abilities. The New Course is Jack Nicklaus’ tribute to the famous Old Course at St Andrews and you’ll find double greens, stone bridges and pot bunkers up to 12 feet deep. The immaculately maintained resort is guaranteed to surpass all expectations, offering a simply unforgettable golf break in the perfect setting and an ideal base for all the local attractions.

Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa

We Recommend... (Joe Bowrey Sales Consultant Worldwide)In north east Florida, temperatures are slightly cooler than in the south and package prices peak in March when the climate is perfect with an average temperature of 17˚C and the TPC at Sawgrass beginning to take shape for the THE PLAYERS Championship. A great time to travel is in early September, rates are lower as the temperature can be a little high in the middle of the day but averages out at 25˚C. And why not enjoy a tour of the players locker room whilst you're there?

We Recommend... (John Bowles Sales Consultant Worldwide)Premium prices are in March with mid rates available in Spring and late Autumn. If you are happy playing in warmer temperatures then September is a great time to travel - daily average 25˚C - but if you want it fractionally cooler October / November (average temperature 20˚C) would be a good option but more expensive. I'd highly recommend a spot of lunch in the fantastic clubhouse bar - a great place to relax – enjoy some food at their circular bar which is full of golfing memorabilia, including a dozen tour bags hanging from the ceiling signed by well-known golfing stars.

The Doral Golf Resort & Spa is a superb venue located in an oasis of luxury in the southern Florida sun surrounded by green fairways and shimmering waters. Its five championship courses stretch out over a total of 48,000 yards. Why not attempt to tame the Blue Monster? Doral’s infamous championship course is 7288 yards of challenging golf peppered with bunkers and stunning water features. Doral has a rich tournament history that has been played out the Greg Norman designed Great White Course plus the Red, Gold and Jim McLean Signature Courses. To top it off, the resort is located just minutes from Miami International Airport and close to all of the action in Downtown Miami and South Beach – not to be missed on a break to Miami.

A stunning Mediterranean-style golf resort offering 392 bedrooms and suites, the resort offers pure luxury in every respect – and you won’t be disappointed! The two golf courses are equally immaculate; the Soffer Course is the highlight, but the Miller Course is similarly beautiful. Designed by Raymond Floyd, the Soffer Course is unlike any others to be found in the sunshine state. With gently contoured fairways, doglegs, spectacular water features and numerous elevation changes, this test of golf is unique in the area. The Miller Course is equally stunning and provides golfers with the same level of presentation as its bigger sister. As well as immaculately kept fairways golfers will experience fast greens and a multitude of water features throughout. Turnberry Isle is equally positioned between both downtown Miami and Fort Lauderdale providing the ideal opportunity to experience the highlights of the region.

We Recommend... (Adam Ward Head of Product)February and March are popular periods to travel with very little rainfall and 20˚C average temperature however you can save by travelling between October and December when conditions are still perfect. September is an even better deal but a little warmer - averaging 25˚C. Doral is ideal for a shorter 5 night break due to its proximity to Miami airport and the excellent flight connections from the UK.

We Recommend... (Joe Dent USA Sales Consultant)Turnberry Isle is home to the rich and famous - don't be surprised to see some big names walking the fairways! Spring tends to be most popular due to the excellent climate but late autumn provides better value at this extremely high-end and exclusive venue.

Need we say more? PGA National is iconic among golfers due to its rich and exciting heritage. Follow in the footsteps of golfing legends, and play one – or all! - of the fantastic courses. Any avid golfer should have the Jack Nicklaus designed Champion Course on their ‘must play’ list. This world-renowned course is home to the Honda Classic, and hosted the 1983 Ryder Cup. It features the infamous ‘Bear Trap’, three of the most demanding closing holes on the Tour. It is widely considered to be one of Florida’s most notable golf challenges. All five of the courses at PGA National are influenced by the greats of the game for a varied and enjoyable experience.

We Recommend... (Ross Bousfield USA Sales Consultant)This resort is pretty special. It's tournament history is ingrained everywhere you turn as you follow in the footsteps of games greatest players. The Fazio course - previously know as The Haig - has recently been redesigned and is a great test.

We Recommend... (Daniel Grave CEO Golfbreaks.com USA)Innisbrook is the most famous of the group and we have some great packages. Peak season is February to April, and October to November, but you can find a mid price point towards the end of September if you don't mind it being a little warmer.I'd highly recommend a tour of all three courses - allowing you to see the best of what Florida has to offer.

CaliforniaCalifornia is a golfer’s paradise – with lovely temperatures all year round and some of the best and most famous golf in the world to choose from, California has to be in everyone’s thoughts for their next golf break. From the one and only Pebble Beach, Monterey Bay to Torrey Pines in San Diego, the list is endless.

If you prefer a more mountainous setting then travel to the region of Palm Springs and play at the home of the PGA Tour’s Humana Challenge at La Quinta Resort & Club. With a huge range of hotels, apartments and other off course attractions to choose from, not forgetting the fabulous weather, a trip to California would make the perfect golf break.

California

San DiegoSan Diego is located on the Southern California Pacific Ocean coast, close to the Mexican border. The city is known for its mild year-round climate and extensive beaches, with the temperature in summer months averaging a pleasant 24 degrees with very little rainfall. San Diego is home to golf in every conceivable setting from oceanfront to desert and even mountain layouts.

La Costa Resort & Spa, San DiegoThere are two superb courses both designed by Dick Wilson. The Champions Course was one of the most illustrious courses on the PGA Tour with wide, inviting fairways and minimal rough allowing for the odd wide shot off the tee but with small, elevated greens requiring a strategic and accurate approach. The South Course may feel a little tighter as the San Marcos creek comes into play on a lot of holes. La Costa Resort & Spa has over 600 rooms, all recently re-designed to the highest quality. The resort also boasts a wealth of dining and leisure options with four restaurants to choose from.

14

We Recommend... (Joe Bowrey Sales Consultant Worldwide)There are great conditions for golf all year round and prices do not fluctuate much across the 12 months because of this. Spring and late autumn will generally be the best price before temperatures get too high.

Pebble Beach Resorts™

Surely one of the most famous golf venues in the USA – if not worldwide, Pebble Beach Resorts is a legendary place. Opened in 1919, it sits on 5300 acres of the Monterey Peninsula between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey. With a rich history, stunning coastline, warm hospitality and an unrivalled selection of golf courses, a visit to Pebble Beach Resorts is a must.

Golf at Pebble BeachThe selection of four courses includes Pebble Beach Golf Links™; one of the most distinguished PGA Tour courses having hosted the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for 67 years as well as five US Open Championships, most recently in 2010. The small greens and narrow fairways can be demanding when the Pacific wind kicks and The par-4, 8th, 9th and 10th holes running along the rugged cliff line are considered the most difficult. It’s the par-5 18th that is perhaps the most scenic and well known hole at Pebble Beach as it dog-legs along the cliff edge.

Spyglass Hill™ Golf Course has an equally enviable reputation as one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour circuit. Watch out for the 6th, 8th and 16th holes! The course takes its name from Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, and you’ll find references to this throughout with hole names including ‘Black Dog’, ‘Billy Bones’ and ‘Long John Silver’.

The Links at Spanish Bay™ was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum are a direct homage to the traditional links courses found across Great Britain and Ireland. Bunkers of every imaginable shape and size provide great defence for the undulating greens. To top it all off, a bagpiper closes the course in true Scottish tradition every evening.

Heading inland, Del Monte™ Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River, having opened in 1897. A beautifully meandering layout, this course has challenged golfers for over a century and features wide fairways lined with oak, pine and cypress trees.

AccommodationsThere are three accommodation options at Pebble Beach Resorts. Since 1919, The Lodge at Pebble Beach™ has delivered luxurious accommodation and excellent amenities. There are 161 rooms, all with a patio or balcony and stunning views of the gardens, oceanside fairways or spectacular sunsets over Stillwater Cove.

Alternatively, Casa Palmero presents a Mediterranean style offering 24 private rooms at the height of luxury. All guests can enjoy the luxurious living room, library, billiard room, heated outdoor pool and complimentary refreshments at the spacious bar and lounge in the main house. The hotel is set in a great location – overlooking the 1st and 2nd holes of Pebble Beach Golf Links.

The Inn at Spanish Bay™ offers elegance and natural beauty, nestled amongst Monterey pines. All rooms feature comfortable and contemporary furnishing and warm cozy fires as well as great fairway views. ArizonaOne of the undoubted stars of the golf holiday scene stateside, Arizona is the perfect place for a golf break in America. There are over 400 courses to choose from and a wide choice of luxury accommodation.

Travel in the spring and autumn to avoid the heat of summer and enjoy the unique experience of a golf holiday in Arizona’s amazing desert landscape. Scottsdale is the epicentre of golf in Arizona with dozens of brilliant courses and conveniently located for Phoenix International airport.

TPC Scottsdale - Stadium Course

Troon North

ScottsdaleTPC Scottsdale is a 36-hole venue with a formidable reputation. Few of America’s wonderful array of TPC courses are home to such drama and excitement as is played out on the Stadium course due to its fantastic 16th hole made famous as a 'fans favourite' of the Phoenix Open..

This corner of the Sonoran Desert has been transformed into a wonderfully sculpted and well-manicured golf course with plenty of desert areas still separating the fairways. It's a must play when golfing in Arizona.

The new Champions Course at TPC Scottsdale has been designed to fit seamlessly into the natural desert terrain. Although lacking the reputation of the Stadium Course, this course still provides a formidable challenge to test your golfing skills.

Troon North Golf Club is arguably the other big name in Scottsdale. It has two Weiskopf designed courses, both are visually stunning and will test your skills to the max.

Some argue that the Monument Course is slightly more forgiving than its Sister course – The Pinnacle – but accuracy from the tee are consistent features across both with the desert scrub often coming into play.
