Stephen Sutton, 19, from Burntwood in Staffordshire,

was diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 15 and started raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.Stephen, who smashed through his target amount and eventually raised more than £3 million for the charity won the hearts of the nation after he began sharing his story via social media.

The courageous youngster was both honest and endearing in his posts went through ups and downs during treatment but where many people would have been disheartened, he refused to give up his fight and wanted to live every moment to its fullest creating a 46 item ‘bucket list’ which included raising more than £10,000 for the teenage cancer

trust, Going to Twickenham to see a rugby match and Going to CERN in Switzerland. He managed to complete 34 items on his list. Towards the end of his life he became less concerned with helping others, posting this on his facebook page:

PLEASE note, I am too bothered about completing the bucketlist anymore. You can view a full write up about the bucketlist and reasons why here: http://stephensstory.co.uk/bucketlist/ The main thing I want to do is help others- any help supporting my fundraising efforts for Teenage Cancer Trust would be

hugely appreciated! :)

Stephen became an inspiration for many people, gaining the support of celebrities like Jason Manford who heard about his plight and urged his 100 thousand twitter followers to

donate and share his story.

I think we can all agree that his bravery facing a terminal illness is an inspiration to us all.

On May 11th 2014 stephen communicated

via his facebook page that he had been taken into hospital with breathing difficulties, ever resilient and upbeat he described the incident as ‘’rather unfortunate as I had a few cool things lined up for today’’

On May 13th Stephen’s family communicated via his Facebook page that he was no longer able to communicate himself and on May 14 Stephen’s mum posted again to declare that he had lost his fight with cancer: My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14th May. The ongoing support and outpouring of love for Stephen will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way as it helped Stephen throughout his journey. We all know he will never be forgotten, his spirit will live on, in all that he achieved and shared with so many.

Rest in peace Stephen, your legacy will live on through the many people you selflessly helped with your fundraising.
