Happy Father’s Day!
Summer has begun and the heat is here. Hope all are
finding ways to keep cool this summer. Record Book
reviews are going on now. Be sure and check out all
the dates for Record Books.
We need to remember that 4-H is year-round! There
are always great summer opportunities for 4-H
members.

4-H BANQUET
All 4-H members are encouraged to attend.
Friday, July 10, 2015 @ First United Methodist Church.
Banquet begins at 6:30 P.M.
Bring your favorite side dish. Adult Leaders will provide meat and
dessert.
Incoming and outgoing club officers will be recognized. District
Awards, Recordbooks, Club Member of the Year, and many other
awards will be announced.

4-H Recordbook Information
4-H members are encouraged to complete a recordbook.
Recordbooks are due June 15, 2015 to the Extension Office. If a 4-Her
turns in a recordbook that is not complete according to the Texas 4-H
Recordbook Guidelines he/she will be contacted by the Extension
Office. Members will be asked to correct any part of the recordbook
that is not complete and return it to the office. Recordbooks must be
completed correctly to receive recognition at the annual awards
banquet and to be eligible for other awards. Different age
categories in which recordbooks compete:
Junior (3rd grade – 10 yrs), Intermediate (11-13 yrs), and Senior (14-18
yrs).
4-H Adult Leaders will reimburse membership dues of $20 for each
completed recordbook.

Remember, recordbooks saw a very big change three years ago. The new “paper” forms
can be found on the Texas 4-H website on the Recordbooks page and the new online forms
can be found on the new 4-H Reports website.

Recordbooks can be submitted using the online or paper forms. Either way is acceptable.
Just please be sure they are using the correct forms. They vary by age division.
CATEGORIES: Also, please remember that the categories have been updated. When developing the new list of categories, a description was also written to help you make the best category selection. Multi County Recordbook Judging Tuesday, June 30th
Multi County Recordbook Judging will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at the Comal
County Extension Office, 325 Resource Drive, New Braunfels TX. Orientation will begin at 9:00
am. If you are able to assist please contact the Extension Office by June 22, 2015.
District 10 Recordbook Judging
District 10 4-H Recordbook Judging will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Creedmoor
Community Center, 12511 FM 1625, Creedmoor, TX in Travis County (Creedmoor is located just
south of Austin between IH35 and SH 183). Orientation will begin at 9:30 am. In addition, at
least three (3) volunteer leaders per county will be required to assist with the judging process.
If you are able to assist please contact the Extension Office by June 29, 2015.

Clover Kids The 4-H program serves youth 9 years of age (or 8 years of age and in the
3rd grade) to 19. As an affiliated group, youth enrolled as 4-H Clover Kids
have activities and programs suitable for their age group. Clover Kids are
not eligible to participate in activities, recognition programs and
competitive events reserved for older youth.
Competitive events and competitive judging are inappropriate for Clover
Kids. Clover Kids may have animal projects; however, it is recommended
animal projects should not exceed a rabbit in size. Most standard 4-H
accident insurance normally is not available for youth under 5 years of
age.
Summer Camp Opportunities Registration for Summer Camps at the Texas 4-H Conference Center has
begun. Any 4-H’er who is interested in attending any of the following
camps will be reimbursed half of any registration fee. Members will be
required to turn in a copy of their registration and fill out the additional
paperwork at the Extension Office. The total cost of the camp must be
initially covered by the member, and the Gonzales County Council will
reimburse them upon approval. Attached is the list of summer camps
County Council has approved for reimbursement. If you have questions
please call the Extension Office.
All registration fees must be paid by June 14. After June 14, participants
will have to pay the late fee registration in full at the time of registration.
Each chaperone should also complete the Online Child Protection course
within the last year as well.
All Adults serving as Chaperones in the Dormitories must complete a
Child Protection Training Course. 4-H Adult Volunteers registered on 4-H
Connect will complete the training in 4-H Connect, under the “training”
tab.

Gonzales County 4-H owns a liquid nitrogen tank to store bull semen for
any 4-H member to use for their beef projects. This tank is available for
check-out at the AgriLife Extension Office
Rural Youth Loans… the Farm Service Agency has a program that
provides loans to youth for purchasing income producing livestock to
improve and/or begin their operation. Information on this program is
available at the Gonzales FSA Office, 830-672-7511
Take Pictures-and tell us what is going on at your club meetings or
other 4-H activities. Let’s promote 4-H in our community and show
Gonzales what 4-H is all about. Send your pictures and stories to

Gonzales County Awards Information:
Listed below are all the awards that are available through the Gonzales County 4-H.
Applications may be picked up at the office and are due back by June 15, 2015.
GOLD STAR:
This is the highest award a member can obtain. The winner will be selected from the
following items:
1. A completed record book submitted
2. An application form due when record book is turned in
3. An interview
Must have completed at least 3 years in 4-H, including the current year.
To be considered you must apply. (Must be 15 years by Sept. 1st to apply)
JR. MISS AND MR:
This is the highest county awards for 12 & 13 year olds. The winner will be selected
from the following items: 1. A completed record book submitted
2. An application due when record book is turned in
3. An interview
To be considered you must apply.
I Dare You Award:
William H. Danforth’s book, I Dare You, was first published in 1931. It is still considered one of
the most influential books in the area of personal motivation. The book is published and
distributed by the American Youth Foundation through its I Dare You committee. The I Dare
You Leadership Award is not a contest or competition. High school principals and county
agents are asked to select (or have a staff or committee select) nominees. The award
recognizes excellence in character, well-balanced personal development, and potential
for leadership. (Ages 14-18 as of Sept. 1st)

FRIEND OF 4-H
To be announced at the Banquet.
MOST VALUABLE MEMBER: Recognize one member from each club for contributions to the club and outstanding
participation. Each club will determine who will get this award. The winner will be kept a
secret until the 4-H Banquet. Managers will handle this process.
OUTSTANDING LEADER: Recognize one leader from each club for dedication, effort and support to their 4-H
club. Each club will select only one leader as outstanding leader. The leaders will
be announced at the 4-H Banquet.
SHOW STEER VALIDATION AND HEIFER
The tagging and validation of the major show and county steers will occur June
11th, 2015 at Mitchell Hardcastle’s from 8am to 9am and Guadalupe Valley Vet
Clinic from 5-7PM. Anyone wishing to exhibit steers at next year’s major livestock
shows (Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston and Austin) need to be validated. This is
also only steer validation for the Gonzales Live Stock Show 2016.
Halter Heifer Validation
Major show and county Halter heifer validation will also occur on June11th. All
heifers to be shown at the fall majors (State Fair and Heart O’ Texas Fair) will need to
be validated on June 11th if they were not previously validated. There will also be
another Halter heifer validation in November for the spring major stock shows and
the Gonzales Stock Show.
