Story of the Civil War by YOU!• Each group will research and create a page for
the class story. • When we put them together, they will tell the

textbook page more than a picture book. (“The South fought the North” is not what we’re looking for!)
You wanted to choose!• 30 seconds choose or
lose• Get into groups of two
or three SILENTLY• EVERYONE must be
included in a group or EVERYONE will go back to their desks and I will pick the groups!
Get into groups NOW!• We will draw for topic.• The first group that has a completed page gets
to design the cover and give our book a title!
Groups• Causes of the Civil War• War Preparedness • Fort Sumter• Battle of Antietam• Emancipation Proclamation• Life as a Civil War Soldier• Battle of Bull Run• Battle of Gettysburg• Gettysburg Address• Battle of Vicksburg• Appomattox Courthouse
DOs and DON’Ts• Use the textbooks, your journal, the internet to gather
information.(www.civilwar.org is a great resource! Click on
“battlefield” for battle info.)• Use drawings, charts, graphs, and key terms for your
page.• Include the key terms on your handout on your page.
Make sure they are written in a different color that the rest of the text. (Like a textbook!)
• Be sure to include important details:– Who won the battle?– Why was this significant to the Civil War?– What people were involved?
Before you leave• Hang your poster at the front of
the room.
• Each class has a section to place their posters.
• We will present these as a class on Wednesday.
