TRANSCRIPT
Good Morning Neshaminy, This email will further explain Plan D’s options for parents not comfortable sending their child(ren) to school when Neshaminy returns to in-person instruction in the future. Since we are beginning school online for at least the month of September, there is not a rush to make this choice. However, those families who have already made the decision to choose Plan D Opt-out for a period of time, you may wish to begin the year in that program. Doing so now will alleviate the transition of teachers resulting from opting-out when Neshaminy moves from Plan C, Online to Plan B, Blue/Red Hybrid. (I am not even sure I understand what I just wrote….) Below are some clarifications of the nuance. Plan D/Neshaminy Opt-out:
Opt-out to Remote Learning in Math, English, Science and Social Studies with the ability to return to the in-school options anytime during the school year. Canvas-based asynchronous courses taught by Neshaminy Teachers using the Neshaminy Curriculum. Once we get the program established, we’ll add some electives along with live-streaming and classroom videos. This option reserves your child a seat in his/her classes/courses while he/she is taught by Neshaminy’s Remote Learning Staff. As such, these courses will not be taught by your children’s regularly scheduled teachers. Instead, the courses will be taught by Neshaminy Teachers across the District who have chosen to take on additional classes beyond their normal day. This permits easy return to school when parents/child(ren) deem appropriate. However, students can remain in this option for the entire year if necessary. This option will be available in late August / early September and will remain available through the full re-opening of school. A Sign-up Form coming.
Plan D/Cyber Academy Full Year Opt-out: Opt-out for the entire school year without the ability to move back to in-school programs during the school year. Full year, full at-home schedule of virtual programing via the Neshaminy School District Virtual Academy Program. Neshaminy has partnered with the Chester County IU to offer this program. (https://www.cciu.org/Page/1217) More details of NSDVA are below. Those parents wishing more information on NSDVA or who are ready to make the move now, should contact Mr. Paul Mahoney at 215-809-6549 or [email protected]. This option is available now and will remain available through the full re-opening of school. No Sign-up Form coming. Simply call Paul.

Neshaminy School District believes that all students learn in different ways and at different rates. Along with expanded curricular options that all traditional cyber programs can provide, NSDVA will have a Personal Learning Coach (PLC) involved in overseeing progress and serving as a mentor to the students. Students will meet with the PLC to address program protocols and resources available for success. Regularly scheduled optional social events within close range of the Neshaminy community will be coordinated by the PLC as a way to further engage students as members of a diverse learning community.
From courses to teachers to technology, NSDVA provides an unmatched, comprehensive program that raises the bar in online learning.
CURRICULUMMultiple platforms provide flexibility for different learning styles and give Neshaminy the ability to customize content. AP, Honors and Credit Recovery courses are available, as well as NCAA-approved courses.
SUPPORTNSDVA has multiple supports in place to help students succeed in the online-learning environment, including weekly progress reports. While extra help is always available, NSDVA students learn to advocate for themselves and own their learning.
ENGAGEMENTThrough a variety of in-person events and learning opportunities, NSDVA strives to remove the distance created by the computer. And because you remain in district, students can also easily continue to participate in Neshaminy School District sports and activities.
PERSONAL LEARNING COACHOur PLC will work directly with students and families by providing weekly reports on work completion, monitoring the mastery of content standards and reviewing student time on task.
TEACHERSThe attention and personalization expected of classroom teachers is what you will find in the NSDVA online teaching staff. Our highly qualified, PA-certified staff are invested in your child’s success.
TECHNOLOGYNSDVA is ready to provide all required technology for students with on-demand technical support.
Neshaminy School District Virtual Academy students are
welcome to participate in extracurricular activities within our neighborhood buildings as well as specialized, socialization activities coordinated by the NSDVA’s Personal Learning Coach (PLC).
