Wild thing!We are learning about:
Animals - their habitats and life cycles
Science: Food Chains
● Watch the episode of blue planet to discover all of the animals living in the ocean and coral reefs.
● Watch the clip explaining food chains.
● Choose 3 or 4 animals that make a food chain and write or draw them onto strips of paper.
● Connect them together in a food chain paper chain.
○ Make sure the animals are in the correct order!
PE: ● Join in with Joe Wicks every
morning. Can you keep up?● Go for a daily walk, jog or bike ride
to get some fresh air● Cosmic Yoga
PSHE:How am I?
Play the game and discuss how you are feeling about lockdown life.
Don’t forget to try and read every day for 15 minutes. You could record yourself on seesaw so that we can hear you!
Here is a reminder of the page of activities you could choose from afterwards to help you think about the book in more detail!
Spellings for this term:We need to recap the spelling rules and patterns for this year. Over the next 7 and a bit weeks we would like you to practise the rules and common exception words as mentioned below :)https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/239784/English_Appendix_1_-_Spelling.pdf Try to focus on words that you use a lot and sometimes are misspelled but below are some ideas to focus on for this week!
Click on the link above and start with the different sounds in theYear One section - then move onto the ‘common exception words’
Click on the link above and choose some of the ‘Common exception words’ that you find tricky. Also make sure you are clear on the rules for the different spellings of different sounds.
Same as the 2 chilli - if you can spell all of theseThen skip to the Year Three section - can you try Some of those?
Maths - Place Value
To start us off this term we would like to revisit Place Value. It is like the foundation of Number in Maths so it’s always great to recap and extend our learning/understanding!
For more information visit: https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/maths/primary-number-place-value/number-place-value-year-2-age-6-7/
Activity 1 - Reasoning
LO: I can use my place value knowledge
Look at the numbers in the box and the numbers outside the box. We want you to compare them, find patterns, look for connections and find rules.
Top Tip - use different colours to highlight the numbers to help you identify different rules. For example one colour for odd numbers and even numbers.
Don’t forget we love the word BECAUSE when reasoning :)
Activity 2 - Word Problems
YAY! We LOVE word problems in Year 2!
You can smash ANY word problem if you use RUCSAC and think carefully about the important information :) Don’t forget to clearly show your workings and if you need more help then go back a few weeks to watch Miss B’s Video :)
Activity 3 - Partitioning Numbers
Partitioning is a great way to help practise your mental maths! Being able to split numbers can help you add them together or subtract them.Partition the numbers into thousands, hundreds, tens and units/ones
Activity 4 - Ordering Numbers
Place value also helps us to order numbers from smallest to largest and the opposite. For example if both numbers have 5 hundreds it can get a little trickier to order them 572 and 571 look very similar. In this instance we need to look at the tens firstly, if they are the same then look at the units to order them correctly :) So we now know that 571 is smaller than 572
Activity 5 -
Go onto https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/place-value-odd-and-even and have a go at the different games! Enjoy!
If that wasn’t enough… have a go at these…
- Visit https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/maths/primary-number-place-value/number-place-value-year-2-age-6-7/ for more place value information and activity ideas!

English - Under The Sea Description
This week we will be using all of our
descriptive skills to imagine and describe what life would be like
under the sea!https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zrqqtfr/articles/zy2r6yc
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/z3nf
w6f
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X0OIGF_sb4
Activity 1 - I can describe verbally
We would like you to play the game ‘heads up’!
Write the names of the ‘Tiddler’ characters on small pieces of paper (or use the ones in your resources file) and choose
one at random with your family.
Don’t peek at who you have but hold it up so they can see!You must give clues to your family to help them guess who they have and they must give you clues to guess who you are. Try to include adjectives, adverbs and similes in your
clues!
Activity 2 - Describe a character - Missing Poster
Read or watch the story of ‘Tiddler’ by Julia Donaldsonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcTQADUywZY
The characters have all gone missing!!!!!
Pick a character and describe them using yourskills from activity one on a Wanted Poster.
Include lots of detail to help us find them!
What do they look like? What is their personality? How do they move around?
Activity 3 - Read and understand description
Next we would like you to read the texts all about the ocean and things ‘under the sea’
Pick a chilli that you feel will challenge you.
Remember to highlight or underline any key words that you think will help you to answer the
questions afterwards!
Activity 4 - Describing a settingYou can either draw your own underwater scene or use this one!
How many different ways can you think of to describe it? Try to include:
Noun phrases eg:Bright coral
Expanded noun phrases and exclamation sentences eg:Bright, colourful coral
What a scary shark that is!How colourful the corals are!
All of the above plus similes eg:The water was as shimmery as the stars.
Activity 4 - Describing a setting - Hints and tips Try to use a different adjective or skill for each noun:
SharkCoralWaterTurtleFish
Remember - colours are adjectives but they can be a little boring - try to use some other adjectives too. Here are some to get you started:
● Colourful● Shimmery● Stripy● Fierce●
Not challenged?
Use your description in full sentences and add adverbs to describe how things are moving.
Eg. The peaceful turtle is as slow as a snail and he glides gracefully past the colourful, bright corals.
Activity 5 - Adjective Bank
Create your own adjective bank to use this week and next week when we will be writing our own sea stories.
How many can you come up with? You could display them in a list, poster or table. Here are
some ideas:
If that wasn’t enough… have a go at these…
● Play some games all about adjectives on topmarks: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?q=adjectives
● On purple mash - search mash cam diver - become a diver and describe what you see, hear, smell, touch and taste around you!
● Match the similes: https://www.englishclub.com/esl-games/vocabulary/matching-similes.htm
● Write a story beginning and see how much description you can squeeze into 30 words!
● Read some more books about ‘under the sea’ - see what description you can take ‘magpie’ to use in your own stories.
Geography - Oceans
First have a go at this wordsearch to refresh your memory from last term!
Then we would like you to find out more about each ocean using the internet or these slides to help!
Ocean Facts - Slides
Finally, have a go at the quiz in the resources document
History - Sea animals from HistoryThis is the Hawksbill Turtle and they no longer exist in any oceans across
the world.
Why do you think this is?
We would like you to research them and find out what has happened to
them.
How can you and your generation change history by making sure this
doesn’t happen to any other sea creatures?
Music - Sea shantiesListen to some sea shanties and have a go at composing your own. What can you use from
around your house to make music with?
You can write one from scratch or use the ideas in the resources and edit them to make them
your own!Some examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEcjOs76N7ohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOA3he2Gv4Mhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msWflkxGPo4
RE - Religious stories
Christianity - The Bible - Jonah and the Whalehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrh375bd_LA
Draw the story as it appears in your head!Label it with how the characters would have felt.
Science - Food ChainsOver the next two weeks we would like you to learn more about the ocean
habitat and the food chains within it.
Have a look at this episode of blue planet - or parts of ithttps://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0074mmc
Then watch this video:https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z96r82p
Then using strips of paper create your own ocean food chain paper chain.
Make sure it is in the correct order and you know who is at the top and bottom of your chain.
Challenge? Research the words ‘producer’ and ‘consumer’ can you add these as labels correctly to your food chain?
PEJoe Wicks - subscribe to his youtube channel to learn all about keeping physically fit. He uploads HIIT sessions daily specially designed to keep kids moving! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ
Get out into the garden/go on a daily walk/ride/run to keep fit andkeep smiling!
Try some cosmic yoga!
Don’t forget to upload your photos to seesaw!
Art and Design/DT Make your own sea creature! You could colour,
paint, use materials. Here are some ideas:
Computing: Create and Save a documentWe would like you to log onto purple mash and check your
to dos.
Create your own treasure chest. If you want to start from scratch you can use 2paint instead.
Create your treasure chest, label it and then save it.
PSHE - personal, social and health education
How am I feeling?
Play this game about Corona Virus - avoid the germs and collect things to help!
https://martin-jacob.itch.io/can-you-save-the-world
Have a conversation with your family about how you are feeling. Do you have any worries? Are you proud that you
are saving the world by staying at home?
Start of term 6 - Well done Team Moles and Rabbits!
