GATHERING FOR COMMUNGATHERING FOR COMMUNIONION

At the request of Council, the Back to Normal Committee reviewed and approved a plan for us to gather for Communion only each Sunday starting September 27 at 9:30 a.m.

This is not a complete worship service, only a gathering for Communion that will take less than 30 minutes.

Reservations are required. Please contact Ann at the Church Office at 432 0308 or [email protected] to sign-up.

Capacity for each week: 45. This not only limits the number of people in the nave at one time, but keeps the amount of time people are there to a minimum as well.

If we reach capacity, you will be asked if you’d like to sign up for a later date.

Individuals who are at high risk of illness or who have mobility issues:

Opportunities for you to commune will be available beginning in October.

Please watch for details in future newsletters. Here’s what to expect for these Communion gatherings. 1. Please begin arriving at 9:15 a.m.

MINISTRY MOMENT AT GMINISTRY MOMENT AT GRACE:RACE:

I recently spoke with a member of Grace who is caring for her husband as his health

declines. She said, “every day is a challenge. Lead on, Lord.” Part of the leaning on and leading of God includes online and radio broadcasts of worship. She listens to worship at

Grace on Sundays as a source of strength and renewal. The member also recently came and sat in the sanctuary where she felt “infused” by the presence of God’s Spirit in the familiar place of worship.

Lives are changed, transformed and renewed as people grow in relationship to one another

and to our God. It’s happening right here, at Grace!

5. Masks are required for everyone over age 2 while they’re in the building.

6. Masks are available for those who forget theirs or come without one.

7. Everyone is welcome to the gathering if they’re feeling well (no fever or cough).

8. Coats: Please keep any outerwear with you.

In the Sanctuary

1. Only the back entrance will be used for an entrance to the nave.

2. There will be no bulletins.

3. If you’d like to bring your Offering envelops to these gatherings, an Offering Box

will be located near the entrance of the nave.

4. Ushers will explain the designated, social distance seating in the nave: households

may sit together; please keep 6 feet between non-household members.

5. Spoken responses: short spoken responses will be part of the gathering including the

Lord’s Prayer.

6. Greeting/hand-shaking won’t take place following these gatherings.

7. Congregational singing won’t be part of these gatherings.

Communion

1. The Pastor describes process for distribution of communion

2. After the Words of Institution and the Lord’s Prayer, the presiding pastor will bring the

communion trays to the two communion tables placed at the foot of the steps on the

pulpit/ramp side of the nave.

3. Standing in the outside aisles, Ushers will welcome household groups forward for

communion starting with the front pews, alternating sides, being careful to keep

people spaced 6 feet apart throughout the entire process.

4. Hand sanitizer will be available before communion.

5. Bread will be available for people to pick up on a communion table. The bread will be

in the form of small cubes in plastic communion cups safely spaced on trays.

6. Wine/grape juice will be available on a table next to the bread table in plastic cups,

also safely separated on trays

7. Communion Assistant will say the words for distribution 6 feet behind the

communion tables.

8. People commune outside the ramp exit, receiving a blessing from the pastor on the

steps of the east stairwell as they leave.

9. There will be a place for empty cups in the hallway outside the ramp exit.

10. Communion Assistant will move empty bread and wine trays aside.

11. The Ushers, Communion Assistants, Organist, and Pastor will commune last.

12. There will be no Communion pew delivery during these gatherings.

For September, we are reading The Black Tower by P.D. James, one of the Adam Dalgliesh series. Just recovered from a grave illness,

Commander Adam Dalgliesh receives a call for advice from the elderly chaplain at Toynton Grange, an isolated nursing home on the coast of England. But by the time Dalgliesh arrives, Father

Baddeley has mysteriously died, as has one of his patients -- and it wasn’t Covid 19! Note: there is also a film version that was shown on PBS back in the 80s if you can find it!
