ST. MATTHEW’S GOOD NEWS UPDATE
August 20, 2017
TOMORROW 7:00 P.M. PARLOR
Don’t be shy — join the Youth group
this Sunday! For those going into
6th grade and all the way through
12th grade, this time is for you! Fun
for all is guaranteed. Bring yourself
and bring your friends!
6:00-7:30 p.m.
The Ammermans have reported that the twin girls are very healthy, gaining weight, and are
eating and sleeping like champs. The woman who is caring for them during this transition time
says they are “pure perfection,” and the doctor agreed at their recent checkup. The birth-
mother is also doing very well. The Ammermans are so grateful for all our prayers. Now we
pray for continued smooth processes, safe travels Sunday and Monday, and lots of energy!
Are you ready for tomorrow’s solar eclipse? We are outside the direct path but will
still see a partial eclipse, where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk. Even with a
partial eclipse, you still need to wear the special, protective glasses. Go to
https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov to learn everything there is to know about this event.

Last Sunday we welcomed this family into St. Matthew’s - Albert Lawless, Lisa Lara, and little Elijah. We also wit-
nessed the Baptism of Elijah. We, as Christ’s family, look forward to watching this little one grow up and helping
him discover his own path to discipleship.
Jesus said, “Let the lit-
tle children come to me,
and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of
heaven belongs to such
as these.”
Matthew 19:14
SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE NEXT SUNDAY!
The dog days of summer are still here, but summer vacations will soon be over. St. Matthew’s has been full of
youthful life these past few months. Next Sunday, we will honor and celebrate the children and youth of our
church before sending them off to school on the 28th. We will bless backpacks, the children and youth who carry
them, and all the folks who contribute to their education.
Some of the things our children and youth participated in were Big House, U.M. Army, VBS, and Sunday evening
Youth Fellowship, which included games, bowling, swimming, and more.
Awards will be given to members of our Sunday evening Youth group, who have been using the P.R.A.Y. Program as
a means of Christian growth and discipleship. P.R.A.Y. stands for Programs of Religious Activities with Youth and
requires young people to study scripture and design service projects to demonstrate what they have learned.
Also to be celebrated are our new organist and his wife, Orin and Jessica Nelson. What a joy it is to hear the
organ come to life every Sunday morning! Let’s not forget our newest members, Albert Lawless, Lisa Lara, and
their adorable son, Elijah – we hope they will join in fellowship with us.
Nell Baham will present Bibles to the following children:
Leah Bream Penelope Clark Rya Fry Zion Fry
Lauren Hudgins Wesley Hudgins Daniel Rhodes Joy Rhodes
After worship, stop by the Parlor, pick up some and and enjoy it in your Sunday school class.
Do you know what the kids are doing in Children’s Church while you stay in church for worship? They are having
their very own worship service, complete with acolytes and ushers. One of the jobs of the usher is to take our
offering and place it in the offering plate when we return to the main worship service. Have you noticed the
thermometer moving up on our World Service Fund (apportionments) poster? That is due in
part to Children’s Church, because we have been taking up an offering since Lent to help with
this goal. Parents, it would be great if you could send an offering with your kids for Chil-
dren’s Church and help us move that thermometer up!
To keep our Prayer List current,
please contact the church office
to add names of those who need
prayer or remove those who have
received God’s blessing of healing.

August Acolytes - Children’s Choice
This month is Children’s Choice for our Junior and Youth Acolytes. If you are asked to help, we
hope you will serve in this important ministry.
If you like to sing, please consider joining the choir. The
adult Chancel Choir will resume practice September 6,
and the Jr. Choir will resume practice September 10.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise
to my God while I have being. Psalm 104:33
