be a glamour girl
A bridal luncheon, also oencalled a bridesmaids luncheon
is a party thrown by the bridein honour of the bridesmaids
as a way of saying thank you.
She oen uses the event as anopportunity to present them
each with a thank-you gi.
Though the luncheon is all about giving thanks,
they also give all the bridesmaids parcularlythose who may live out of town or not know
each other well the opportunity to get to
know each other beer before the big day.
Bridal luncheons are tradionally informal
gatherings thrown the day before the wedding.
These days, however, its not uncommon to
have the event as much as two weeks before
the wedding.

monochrome magicThe trick to a great breakfast party isto add a formality all its own. Forgetthat glitz and glamour is reserved
for the evening, and create amorning purity that is breathtakingly
pared back yet highly decorave.
First and foremost, create a party area that
is minimalisc in dcor this will ensure that
the focus is centered on the table with its
theme specic items and is not compeng with
other unnecessary and uncoordinated items.
A monochromac black and white eect with
a touch of sparkle and shine is can also be just
right for the start of the day.

GOOD LOOKMENU
Fortunately, the guest list isinmate so a seated place seng
can be created for each guest.Inially create a blank canvas towork on: a starch white tablecloth,
napkins, white tableware, clearglassware and silver atware.
Lush, white cymbidium orchidsarranged in translucent blue and
white vases of varied shapesand sizes. These have then been
embellished with sparkling jewelsand san bows
Depending on your budget, you may for
example swap out the white napkins for
black ones, or possibly use crystal glassware
instead of basic glasses, the more rened
the beer suited to this theme. You may
also wish to add silver plate chargers and
silver place card holders, and whilst not
necessary these lile details wont go
unnoced, similarly the added touch of
custom table staonery.
Simply raid your jewellery box or thecosmec jewellery secon of your local
department store and fasten/tape to the
glass vases. Even plain clear glass hurricanes
or basic rectangular glass vases can be made
into something special with the addion of
some black san ribbon and an old stray clip
on diamante earring.

sunny side up
A fabulous breakfast is a raretreat. Yoghurt, French pastries andsmoked salmon are massed on the
buet. Silver service delivers eggs
to order with pan fried ros androasted tomatoes.
This party has been created for a lovely long
and lazy breakfast, but like the name suggests
a bridal luncheon can be a lunch, dinner and
even just a tea with ny nger sandwiches,
mini muns and scones with jam. The idea is
to have a menu that is non-fuss but sll looks
glamourous. This is easily done by servingdishes in miniature.

break the ice
with this ring
For a fun icebreaker, place one ofour printable queson cards at
each guests plate asking her to tella story about the bride.
At most bridal luncheons the
tradional bridesmaids pink icedcake lled with charms will beserved. There is always one specialcharm and the bridesmaid who
ends up with the charm in her sliceis predicted to be the next to marry.
For instance, a bridesmaids card can say:
What is the funniest thing the bride has done.
Another might read: What is the brides best
quality? Each bridesmaid can tell her story to
the whole table of aendants.
For our take on this tradion we kept to the
tradional Bundt style of the cake but instead
had it made up into a rich, dark chocolategateaux. And in lieu of charms, various rings
were placed onto ribbon cords and placed in the
centre of the cake, with each bridesmaid being
able to pull a string and reveal her jewel. These
could also be displayed in boxes similar to that
of a jewellery store and the bridesmaid could
then choose their own-boxed favour.

20/94
Congratulations if you are getting married in 2011! It is a year that promisesboth elegance and exoticism from the regal and romantic royal wedding toa vintage throw back to the roaring 1920s there is something for everyoneand a colour palette to die for.
GOOD ADVICE
WEDDINGTRENDS
1. Watercolour WonderThe colours for 2011 are tropical and fun, but with
a sun dappled look about them. Whats more brides
are combining two and three colours instead of just
one complemenng colour. The Pantone Spring 2011
palee has it nailed think honeysuckle pink, coral
rose, peapod green, beeswax yellow, regaa blue or
a paler (more like the turquoise blue of 2010) - blue
curaco. But for those brides who sll long for a lighter
shade of pale there is silver peony, russet, lavender
and silver cloud. It can be key to helping couples save
money while sll being able to have everything they
want on their special day.
2. Natural SettingsOutdoor weddings are a big must, indoor weddings
are geng a bit of break, as brides prefer the more
relaxed and comforng feeling an outdoor one has.
But you have been warned, the weather is hard to
predict, so have a plan B.
3. Make Your Own MarkDo It Yourself became a trend in 2010 with the
economy, and remains for 2011. Couples are rst
taking the me to make their wedding reect their
interests, passions and hobbies and then building
a wedding style from there. It is these independent
ideas that make the wedding an unforgeable
personal aair and todays brides want to add lile
touches of their own like favours and welcome bags.

21/94
4. Flapper FineryVintage is sll hot and anything shabby
chic, but 2011 will be more opulent and
extravagant than 2010. Take a wedding style
cue from Marie Antoinee and the dapper
fashion of the 1920s, think dusty pink and
nudes, lots of lace, pearls but also peaches
and coral colours and add metallic gold and
silver trims for a bit of sparkle.
Get your guy involved in the wedding
planning. Possibly suggest he arrange for
a lile gentlemans club/speakeasy bar
complete with whiskey, cigars and even a card
table or two. And how about leng him plan
a surprise honeymoon!
5. Royal RomanticWith a royal wedding around the corner
everyone is forecasng fairytale bling:
crystals, sophiscated sequins and beading
will be showing up everywhere. And not
just on the dress, think oral arrangements
and the wedding cake too. Not to menon
monogrammes, that are sure to reect the
customs and tradions of the royal family.
Fashion wise, strapless gowns will be replaced
by asymmetrical ones, sheer or peek-a-boo
necklines. Embellished belts are en vogue as
are beauful hues instead of the usual white
or ivory; feathered headpieces, shredded
fabrics and airy plumes.
6. Cool BritanniaFor brides who do not envision a fairytale st
there is sll the opon of a preppy chic aair
that exudes the London look. In neednt be th
full red, white and blue Union Jack come Aus
Powers swinging 60s Party - classic and chic p
and stripes provide the perfect remix of retro,
preppy sensibility.
But the vibrant and funky theme is ideal for a
pre wedding party so go the full hog with a
very Brish street party feel with paper chains
bunng, union jack paper ags and all things
totally cool!
7. Exotic ExperienceThe 2011 colour palee alone is regarded as a
exoc journey, and India is denitely the it
country. Choose a vibrant colour palee and a
strong metallic elements - this theme also mak
for a original twist on the typical bacheloree
slumber and pamper party.

8. Fun with FoodFor the cocktail hour or wedding aer
party perfecon bring in a gourmet food
truck. Whether it is a real ice cream truck
or makeshi sidewalk carts of coee and
doughnuts it is sure to be a hit! And for the
main menu itself? Simple, tradional food but
of excellent quality and presented in a very
modern way or with a touch of originality.
9. Wedding.comWhat with everyone on Facebook, YouTube,
Twier, Flickr and Vimeo your wedding will
naturally be part of it all as well! Keep your
guests informed about the wedding details via
a wedding website or blog, or even just lile
posts revealing your excitement and plans to
date. 10. The Green Scene
Couples connue to think green, even if it is insmall ways like second-hand and vintage weddin
dresses, found dcor, LED lighng, recycled
staonery and local organic food.
Take it to another level, and bring your
photographer in on the act by creang a
wedding photo or video booth at the wedding
that allows for easy upload to the net.

Tracey and Clinton celebrated their wedding with a classical affairheld Hazeldene Hall - one of Johannesburgs old colonial historical
gems. Here Tracey shares her wedding day story:
My style is very much vintage and classic, which is why I fell in love with Hazeldene Hall thesecond I saw it. It has a classic colonial architecture and inside it has Victorian touchessuch as high pressed metal ceilings, original fireplaces, stained glass windows, crystal
chandeliers and broekielace around the veranda. Another of Hazeldene Halls claimsto fame is that the iconic SA tale of Jock of the Bushveld was written in its study. The
substantial gardens show off a Victorian glory and reflect the axial approach of symmetryand balance. A long rectangular pond can be found to the side of the house where we
had floating lanterns and surrounding candles.

My colour scheme was very neutral, the decor was all white with crystal platesand pearl crockery, white orchids and lilies for our centre pieces in a long tallvase. We had a delicious gorgeous all-white candy bar on the balcony fullof coconut ice, fudge white chocolate, marshmallows and truffles. For someentertainment we had a photo booth where guests could go dress in silly hatsand glasses and scarves and take couple and/or group shots and then eachget a copy of it in an old school photo strip.

For transport to and from the wedding we had stunning imported stretch creamLincolin limos - the only two in South Africa. My father drove me to the venue alongwith my two brothers in his Rolls-Royce. For both sides of our families and 50 of ourclosest friends we hired limo buses to take them to the wedding and back so they
didnt have to worry about driving home late at night after the party!

The food was catered by the well known By Word Of Mouth - they wereexcellent! My cake was designed and made by The Cake Genie and it was a5 tier chocolate and vanilla cake with a black and white damask print.
Our professional photographs we taken by Christopher Munton and he reallybought in an element of that vintage, classical feel to the couple shots atthe venue but he was also able to bring out a fun, unique side with Clintonsindividual and groomsmen shots!

lovelylanternsGOOD RIDDANCE
As you start to design the decor of your wedding or event, dont overlookthe many interesting uses for paper lanterns. There are so many sizes, colours and interesting shapes to choose from and with the use of batterypowered LED lights you can put them anywhere and even keep themafterwards to decorate your house.
Consider using them as yourtable centerpieces, for example place your ower arrangements insidesmall paper lanterns.Run a string of lanterns overhead above the table to dene the space.
As an aisle marker you can hang them from shepherd hooks at the end of your aisle, or o the backof chairs just the same way your would use a oral pomander. You can use the larger paper lanterns at ground level to mark your aisle, add detail, or camouagean unsightly area. One of the preest ways to decorate a tent for a wedding recepon, or any space for that maer,
is to hang a collecons of paper lanterns from the ceiling.

GOOD LIFE
HOW WE METGraham and I met eight years ago. I was a law student working part-time inMontblanc in Sandton. Graham walked in to buy a pen refill and walked out with awatch that I sold to him. Four years later I was a qualified lawyer and Graham wasappointed as an advocate on a matter I was working on by my boss. A few monthslater I moved to London to take up an exciting opportunity in the city Grahamcalled to wish me good luck. Two years later I was back living in South Africa andGraham and I bumped into each other at a restaurant. In October 2009 after a few
months of friendship, Graham and I started dating he proposed in April 2010 andwe were married in August 2010 my life partner and best friend had been known to
me all along and the universe had finally conspired to bring us together!

THE PROPOSALOn Easter Friday in April 2010 Graham and I headed away for the weekend to Magaliesburg. I waspreoccupied and I wanted to speak with Graham about where he thought our relationship was goingbut could do no such thing we had only been dating for 5 months and I was worried he would thinkI was a crazy woman! It poured with rain the whole day but eventually cleared in the late afternoonand Graham suggested that we go for a walk. Off we set for the top of a koppie in the reserve the airsmelled beautiful and clean and the sky was bright with the late afternoon light. We reached the topand I thought how romantic, what a spectacular view, what a lovely place to get engaged! Next thing
I knew Graham kissed me and stared at me in a very special sort of way and I just knew that he wasgoing to ask me to marry him. Graham half-knelt on the rocks and told me that he wanted to growold and grey with me and share his life with me! And so we were engaged on a beautiful Highveldafternoon at the top of a mountain and my heart soured! Not that easy a place to get cellphone signalto share our exciting news! Nothing can prepare you for how you feel when you know and understandthat someone just gets you and loves you as much as you love them... Five months later we weremarried in front of our family and friends. A spectacular and overwhelmingly happy day. Someoneonce said that sometimes life is too good to be alone and sometimes life is too hard to be alone Inow know exactly what that means.

5 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR SHOOT WORK FOR YOU1. Pick a location that means something to you. It can be a simple one like your favourite park, theplace where you first met or even at home.
2. Wear clothes that reflect your personality. We love vintage inspired things so this helped with ourstyling on the day, but perhaps you love wearing jeans and a tee.
3. The photos are about the two of you and the exciting time that lies ahead. See it as a practice
round for your wedding. Do you like to smile or kiss or even just look at each other? Be comfortablewith one another and find which poses work for you. It is also a good day for your makeup/hair trialto see how they photograph. I also had our wedding florist make a small bouquet to use as a prop sothat I could get an idea of what flowers and colours I liked.
4. A theme really helps and if you can tie it together with you wedding then the creative processwill be easier. Deciding what type of wedding you would like will assist when you are forming yourtheme ideas. We went with a vintage theme and some of the props used in our shoot made their wayto our wedding.
5. Finally dont be afraid to share your ideas with your photographer. If you are a stylist at heartthen have some props ready or style your home to suit the feel of the shoot. You have to be happywith the end results so speak up.
Stay trueto yourselfand you cantgo wrong.Rememberthere are norules!

Hello readers... Thank you to the In Good Company team for having me! I am Nadia
from Cupcake Couture. I am a newly married blogger and creative crafter specialisingin ribbon rosettes and corsages of all shapes and sizes. I love buttons and vintagehaberdashery items. You can read more about what I do on my blog as well as join myPackage Project.Daniel and I got married last year November and it
truly was one of the best days of my life! Clichs aside,
nothing comes close to the feelings experienced on
your wedding day.
We started o our wedding planning as the beginningof 2010 aer being engaged for six months. Daniel
and I are both creave people and so enjoyed making
and designing decor and brainstorming ideas. Our
engagement shoot was the rst in a series of creave
tasks that we embarked on together.
The inspiraon for our shoot came from 1950s photos
with just a hint of Mad Men.
We started o shoong at our lile home that
is where we got engaged and moved onto a
beauful heritage building in Durban.
At rst I felt very nervous about the idea of posing
for the camera, but with Daniel by my side that
soon faded away. I tried to only focus on himand I found that made it so much easier. Our
wedding photographer Tyrone Bradley shot our
engagement shoot and he really added to the
relaxed and fun feel on the day.
Engagement shoots are really a great way to
capture a special me in your lives before the
wedding stress hits! Enjoy each moment!

welcoming partyIf you are having a desnaon wedding, or if many of your guests are travelling from afar,
plan to organise an informal Meet and Greet party. This party naturally happens before the
wedding day, but these ideas that follow can easily be used for a post wedding get together
too. Most likely, you will be geng married on the weekend, but many of your guests will
arrive the day before the funcon, therefore it is a good idea to have scheduled a casual gettogether for example on a Friday aernoon if it is a Saturday aernoon wedding, whereby
you will be able to spend some real quality me with your family and friends.
INVITATIONS
As part of your desnaon wedding invitaons, it is customary to provide accommodaon
details. This could include varied hotel, guesthouse and B&B opons, possibly some that you
have been able to negoate discounted rates for your wedding guests. In addion you may
wish to include a separate note card with the details of the pre wedding party or send this at
a later stage based on your conrmed guest list.
GOOD TIP: Set up a wedding blog or website where you can provide all sorts of informaon
to assist your guests. This could include informaon about the wedding locaon and
surrounding areas, how to get there, accommodaon and sightseeing opons as well as you
could share details about how you met, a bit about each of you and the proposal. A mini
photo album and a comments/quesons secon are great ideas too!
WELCOME BAGS
When your guests arrive, it is a thoughul touch to have a welcome bag placed inside their
hotel room to welcome them to their wedding and immediately make them feel at ease. Some fun ideas that apply to all locaons include:
A n, canvas bag, box or basket whereby the lile goodies can be placed inside. For example
if you are geng married on an island or in the African bush ll a lile local woven basket.
Boled water customised with labels is an inexpensive but useful item to include.
Lile mini packets of local sweets and treats or baked goodies.
A note card welcoming them to your wedding a cost eecve and co-ordinang choice
would be a postcard featuring the locaon.
A lile favour in the form of a souvenir makes it easy to nd something useful and
appropriate: key rings, candles, memo pads, matches etc.
ENTERTAINMENT
A pre wedding party is a good way for your guests to meet each other and already start
having a good me! Add to the merriment by having a few casual acvies:
Sport: A bit of soccer or volleyball
Lawn Games: Croquet, bocce and giant jenga
Something for the Kids:
Live Entertainment: African or Belly Dancers, Fireworks

stems o, except for one being the
best rose which is to form the centre
rose of the bouquet.
3. Using scissors cut o the green base

Repeat this step mulple mes slowly working your way all around the base of the rose. To create
