From the Pastor’s Desk Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MINISTRY

Act now to help shape the Parish Pastoral Council. The selection process for the Pastoral Council is participatory . In keeping with the diocesan guidelines, One Body, One Mission, there will not be an “election” of members; rather a prayerful discernment session will be conducted to “select” the council members. It is important that we discern leaders who are willing to invest their time and energy, as well as full commitment, in the important work of planning for the future of our parish. If you feel you would like to take an active role in helping set the direction for the parish, please include your name on the Identification Form. Or if you think someone you know is capable of carrying out this leadership ministry, please name them on the Identification Form. Besides being a fully initiated Catholic and a registered participant in the on-going life of our parish, especially Sunday Eucharist, candidates for the parish pastoral council should be women and men of prayerful faith:

motivated by the desire for spiritual growth in oneself and others

optimistic and enthusiastic about the future of the parish

desirous of working within a model of shared leadership, i.e., one based not on power, but on collaboration and consensus

eager about facilitating parish efforts to identify its mission and goals

open to inviting, delegating and encouraging parishioners to bring the parish plan to fruition

committed to devoting the time and energy required of the yearly cycle of planning efforts

willing to become compliant with the Code of Pastoral Conduct of the Diocese of Pittsburgh After prayerfully considering the criteria, an identification form is available for either entering your own or other parishioners’ names to the selection process. —————————————————Cut here and reply via collection basket or send by email: gshepoffice @comcast.net————————————–—————

IDENTIFICATION FORM FOR PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MINISTRY

Father, I suggest that the following individual(s) (it is acceptable to submit your own name) be invited to con-sider leadership ministry through service on our Parish Pastoral Council. I will continue to pray for the guid-ance of the Holy Spirit during the selection process. THE LIGHT IS STILL ON FOR YOU During Lent we had a program called “The Light is on For You.” All the parishes of our Diocese were en-couraged to have their lights on from 6—9 PM on one specific Wednesday evening during Lent so many could come to Confession. Bishop Zubik has asked that we do it again for Advent 2013 and Lent 2014. Since we have begun a program called Welcome Home to actively invite some of our family, friends and neighbors to come and join us for Sunday Mass, I’ve de-cided to “Keep the Lights On” at Sacred Heart Church for Confessions this Friday, October 4th from 6 to 8 PM. And I’ll do it again on Friday, November 1st from 6 to 8 PM. Then during Advent we will participate in the Di-ocesan wide program on Wednesday, December 12th. And of course you can always call me to set up a time for Confession that is convenient for you. Deacon Joe must have been inspired to encourage you to go to Confession during his homily two weeks ago. WELCOME HOME Our Pastoral Council Members have been working on a way to evangelize our non-practicing parishioners. They will be handing out packets of 3 cards this weekend which will encourage people to return and be “Welcomed Home.” They will also be available to “chat” about the program.

LADIES OF CHARITY Our ladies will meet today, Sunday, September 29th at 12:15 PM at Sacred Heart Hall HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP Father Al would like to see if we have an interest in

ing all High School students to a Pizza Party next Sun-

J. Usher Gymnasium in the Good Shepherd School

Building. It will be an informal chat but very impor-

tant for Father Al to know what you are thinking so

that he and our parish family can respond to your

needs. PRAYING TO THE ANGELS We pray to the angels, for they are given to us as guardians. —St. Ambrose

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL A few days ago (September 27th) the Church celebrated the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who knew that “God had sent him to bring good news to the poor.” Together with your gifts, the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul continue his work and mission in our parish. In the month of August, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to help nine families by providing nine beds and five additional pieces of furni-ture. Two of the families received household goods and clothing vouchers to use at the SVdP Thrift Store in Penn Hills. We were able to help four families with their utility bills and one family received food items and a Giant Eagle gift card.
