While with the Dolphins, he was a member of two Super Bowl teams and was perfect in both of them, not missing an extra point or a field goal in either game. During his college football career, he was a member of the 1975 National Championship team, and was later voted the all-time, All-Big 8 kicker. In 1999 von Schamann was named the All-Century Oklahoma Kicker. He was most noted for making a clutch game-winning kick in the final seconds of the 1977 game at Ohio State. In Sooner lore, this play came to be known simply as 'The Kick'. Pictured on the left with Uwe is our senior this year, Jeff Hinkle. Tracy Klein Dolores Vasquez Coral Morozoff

Uwe Von Schamann Visits Goodland!

In the month of August, we had the pleasure of giving a tour and sharing our story with Dolores, Tracy and Coral from the Newfield Foundation. Since 2004, Newfield Foundation has generously donated $99,000 for various projects, such as our annual concert in Tulsa, our summer program and various operating expensed. Jean Hinton, an employee of Newfield Exploration and 16 year veteran of our board of trustees, has sponsored us each year. The following day of the representatives' visit, David Dearinger and one of our students, Jeff Hinkle, traveled to Tulsa where, assisted by Jean Hinton, we shared the Goodland story with the employees of Newfield Exploration. We exhausted our large supply of promotional material on a very successful day.

In the month of August, we had a visit from a former professional American football placekicker, Uwe Von Schamann. Uwe played for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League from 1979 to 1984.

It was an event to remember! While 3 of our boys, Odis, T. J. and Hunter, were going through their Order of the Arrow (the Boys Scouts Honor Society) ordeal at Camp Dierks, the scouts from Shepherd cottage were busy raising money at Walmart in Hugo, Oklahoma. It is the annual popcorn sales and our guys are top salesman! They hit the parking lot like they were pros, asking people if they would like to support our troop by buying popcorn. If they said no, they would ask, "Would you like to make a donation to our troop" and most would give a dollar or two. By the end of the day, they had raised a whooping $721 and left feeling as proud as peacocks. Afterwards, they were treated to a good old Sonic burger and fries. Now, they are planning their next big fundraising event, setting their sights on the big town of Paris, Texas. They have already secured permission to set up at the Walmart there.

Great Salesmen! MORE PHOTOS FROM OUR TRIP TO THE CLYDESDALE FARM
