Last year, I had the experience of watching my son eat his fi rst ice cream cone. Seated on a serene knoll between the east and west ridges of the Beaver Valley, the light-filled aerie named Hill House by its smitten owners offers myriad of stun-ning landscapes and magnificent water views in every direction.

From the west-facing second floor deck of the three-level home, the owners sit and quietly trace the path of the sun along the mountain tops until it descends in a meltingly beautiful sunset. After dinner, they retire to the third floors east-facing loft furnished with cozy chairs in front of floor-to-ceiling windows to watch the progress of the moon as it calmly travels the night sky along the ridge.

It was the 360-degree view afforded by the propertys location that delighted the owners when they stopped at a for sale sign during a drive in 2000. Standing on the site was a piece of history a modest two-storey Swiss ski chalet built by Sir John Templeton in the 1950s. The creator of the Templeton Growth Fund retreated to the chalet periodically to read, write and have some peace as well as to have a place for his family to escape to, if needed, during bomb scares of the Cold War era. The property was later sold to actor Jan Rubes who sold it to orchard owner Sakka Dykstra.

When the current owners saw the old Templeton cha-let, it housed orchard workers who picked apples from

the 8,500 apple trees on almost 93 acres of orchards surrounding the house on the knoll. However, recognizing the incredible potential for stunning views of the mountains to the east and west, Georgian Bay to the north and rolling farmlands to the south, the couple bought the property. The promise of those wonderful views was realized by a design plan that strewed floor-to-ceiling windows wherever possible including four panes set high in the west wall and two skylights incorporated into the cathedral ceiling of the Great Room. Without nearby neighbours, curtains were unnecessary so each windows view unfolds immediately. To amplify the natu-

ral light, all walls are painted white. The result is an atmosphere of airy ease, coloured by the owners much loved paintings.

The Dancers, a large oil painting once rented and later bought by an owner from the Art Gal-lery of Ontario, complements the colours of the antique beech barn beams used in the home.

Considering its position among the fruit trees, the 3,000-square-foot home was fittingly designed by Thunder Bay architectural firm Kuch Stephenson Gibson Malo to resemble a barn. However, the metaphor also extends into the homes interior. All beams used in the post and beam design are authentic 100-year-old

beech beams from a local barn supplied by An-tique Flooring in Markdale. The tawny coloured flooring through most of the home and all stairs were made from cutting the same beams into lengths.

The owners wanted an industrial but cozy feel for their scenic home and the firm supplied it, site literally unseen. The owners dealt with two architectural firms that delivered city-style house plans. But an architect at Kuch Stephen-son, who was a fraternity brother of an owner, understood their request for a small space suit-able for two people with grown children and with as little in the design as possible to block the breathtaking views. The first design created by the firm, one featuring an open concept Great Room encompassing the kitchen, dining room and living room with a double-sided fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows on every side of the house, was just about perfect. The plan fea-tured no less than six decks, three on the main floor and three on the second floor, to enable the couple to see the sun and moon rise and set, watch storms blow in from the west, chart the many moods of Georgian Bay and gaze at their long dirt lane running through the orchards.

Every day, I get up and appreciate where I am. Its just so magnifi cent and the view is so special.The couple happily moved into their unique

home in 2005 after watching its progress on many weekends.

It was kind of fun to see it evolve, says one owner of the progressive pairing of contempo-rary, industrial elements like the foundry door from Hamilton that serves as the master bed-room door with a weathered apple ladder used by pickers long ago. Local materials were used as much as possible throughout the house in-cluding the barn beams, acid-washed zinc met-al baseboards and artisan-made grates.

Its interesting, comments an owner. Peo-ple either love the house or they dont because they are more comfortable with separate rooms. Every day, I get up and appreciate where I am. Its just so magnifi cent and the view is so spe-cial.

The master bedroom, tucked into the sec-ond level beside the Great Room, has transom windows near the ceiling to let in the sunrise glow as well as windows facing the water. To make room in the bedroom for a fi replace, the designers placed a century-old claw foot tub and glassed-in shower in the bedroom with an adjacent powder room. The tub and shower sit

on heated limestone tile fl ooring quarried in Owen Sound. A spacious dressing room beyond has a view of the orchards.

The homes front door opens into the main level foyer with an in-novative carpet set into the fl oor to let guests clean their shoes without rolling up the carpet or jamming it in the door. Two cozy bedrooms on this level share a generous bathroom with steam shower and large sink. A family room features a high-effi ciency, wood-burning fi replace that can heat the home on a frosty winters night by closing barn doors on the north and south side of the house. A forced-air furnace heats the home from the large semi-fi nished basement that could become more living space for a growing family.

popular with the owners of Hill House. Pegs in the wall serve as storage areas for skis and snowshoes can be stored alongside. Heated tile floors keep ski boots warm and help dry out wet boots. Having acres of orchards at your back (and front) door is as pleasant in the win-tertime as in summer for the owners.

There is a two-hour long snowshoe run that goes in and around those trees, out to the far off houses and back up here, she says with a smile. Its really a great run. Were also very close to the ski hills for when we want to go skiing.

However, with the snow gone and apple blos-som season on its way, the owners are making use of their fire pit and its surrounding Musko-ka chairs on the north side of the house. The view from the fire pit of Georgian Bay and the neat rows of apple trees bordered by tall forest is wonderful all year, but particularly so in the spring when the hill is white with fragrant blos-soms. The cool spring nights are also a good time to retire to the upstairs loft.

We come up here and have a cocktail at night because the moon comes up over the mountain, says the owner. The moon moves like the sun does. Its phenomenal in the fall because you have the big harvest moon. Its gorgeous. The most beautiful time for us is the springtime because all the blossoms come out on the fruit trees and its like being on a cloud. But the second most beautiful time is the fall when the apple pickers are here and the apples are on the trees.

While living at their hill-top home, the own-ers have learned to track the path of the sun throughout the year.

Every night, starting on June 1st, the sun goes right down to where the land goes down in elevation in the north, she explains. Thats where the sun sets. But on Dec. 21, it sets at the other end of the ridge. Its phenomenal. We sit out and watch the sunset. In fact, I run home to make sure I see it. You make dinner and have a glass of wine, sit down, watch the sunset and chat. You enjoy nature for a few minutes, the se-renity and the beauty. You cant come to a place like this and not enjoy the sunset and the sun-rise. You just cant. Thats what its all about.

brightened with liberal sprinklings of recessed lighting, the modern three bedroom, two bathroom home is restful, fresh and welcoming. From the spacious front door foyer, guests look straight through the house, past the front deck and out over the Georgian Bay swells through a wall of waterfront windows.

We didnt want a great, big place but we wanted lots of glass and light, says Patrick, who credits Shelburne builder Barry McLean and Collingwood designer Jo Redman of Redman Watson with giving them exactly what they wanted a contemporary but cozy home. We bought the property in 2008 and moved in during August of 2010. There was an old cottage and boathouse here and this house was built where the cottage stood. We enjoyed working with Jo Redman on another house we had in Collingwood, so we engaged her to do the design work. Our initial contractor passed away just as the site was being prepared. A contractor who worked on our other house told me about Barry McLean. Barry is a very efficient, productive kind of guy who has finish carpenters who can do anything. I cant say enough about Jo and Barry. It was a good combination and they were wonderful.

The couples wish for abundant light resulted in windows with maximum views of the water in both the master and guest bedrooms. The master bedroom, which also overlooks the side deck and guest beach house, has ample closets, storage space and opens to a spacious five-piece ensuite with glass shower, luxurious tub and tiled wall designed by Redman. The bathroom and bedroom floors are hot-water heated as are all floors throughout the home, eliminating the need for a furnace.

The large guest bedroom has an adjoining bathroom that can be shared with a room across the main hallway through a second door. Currently a comfortable den, the room could easily be a third bedroom. Windows in the guest and master bedrooms open to bring the sounds of nature in.

We usually have a northwest wind here, so we get waves hitting the rocks, says Patrick. You can hear the waves at night. That will put you to sleep.


Beside the guest bedroom is a fully-equipped laundry room and an interior door leading to a single car garage.

Beneath the vaulted ceiling, inspired by one seen by Patrick at a Grand Bend yacht club, the custom chefs kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a granite-topped island illuminated by glass-shaded hanging pendants, sleek crafted cabinets and a convenient built-in desk. The adjacent living room is warmed by a floor-to-ceiling ledge rock fireplace and brightened with artwork found locally and at the many places the Penders have lived. Over an antique cabinet repurposed as a stylish bar hangs a signed, limited edition print of Newfoundland artist David Blackburns painting Ephraim Kelloways Door. Heading the Penders unique dining table, once used to store blueprints, is Light on the Trail, a sun-dappled painting of the Bruce Trail bought as a surprise birthday present by Cathryn after her husband admired it at the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts Gallery years ago. painting by local artist John Lennard called October Wind boldly portrays an autumnal Georgian Bay.

It reminds me of when we get a fall storm blowing through here, smiles Patrick. Waves crash and the water literally looks purple. When the water is calm, its often as blue as the Caribbean.

Patricks career with the Canadian Pacific Railway took the London, Ont. natives across Canada and into the United States. The couple loved living in Minneapolis, calling the winter sports-loving citizens and the climate very Canadian. Several pre-Collingwood years were happily spent in Calgary, but their little cottage in Pointe au Baril was where Cathryn loved to spend her summers. So, when the subject of retirement came up, the Penders decided to head back east and settle somewhere near the cottage. A weekend visit to Collingwood sparked an immediate attraction to the area and started the search for a local property.

I think this is the nineteenth house we have either built, renovated or bought, so we knew what look we wanted, says Patrick. There is a lot of post and beam construction around and I like it, but we always liked the Prairie look of Frank Lloyd Wright. It worked out great.

The rustic Prairie style exterior of ledge rock punctuated with wood and sheltered under oversized eaves was the creation of Redman. But the boulders scattered sculpture-like on the landscaped property arrived courtesy of Barry McLeans Shelburne farm.

I wanted to have stones, but if you go to a landscaping place the stone looks brand new, explains Patrick. So, one day a tractor trailer pulls up with all these boulders, some with moss growing on them. The driver says, Barry McLean says Im supposed to deliver these stones. Where do you want them?

McLean is also responsible for the propertys breezy beach house whose wash-washed pine interior, comfortable furnishings from the Penders travels and excellent views down the shore have guests fighting over who gets to stay there. The couple wanted the boathouse demolished to improve the view, but McLean promised to turn it into the jewel box that


it is now. Butterfly bushes in the adjacent garden attract flocks of Monarch butterflies as does the milkweed by the sandy waterfront horseshoe pit, a cherished place for horse shoe enthusiasts, and Millie, to play.

Theres nothing like a hot summer afternoon and having the boys over to play horseshoes, drink beer and tell lies, says Pender with a grin.

Perennial gardens, designed by Paul Storey of Northern Roots Landscaping in Collingwood, are full of field and forest plantings like Echinacea, sedum, fiddlehead ferns, red leaf

dogwood, Mountain Ash and Birch. Hydrangea and decorative grasses handsomely flank the locally-crafted Douglas fir front door designed by the Penders. The doors trio of tall vertical windows lets the bay be seen even before one enters the house.

Gardens embroider the verge of the decks that stretch across the front and up one side of the home, accessed by two sets of sliding doors and a side door. The Penders love to entertain friends on the deck, hosting casual dinners after spring arrives. In cooler weather, three large glazed pots beautifully supply heat

for outdoor gatherings with tongues of flame leaping from fuel sources nestled in the pots tops.

After four happy years the Penders have decided to move on, once again taking with them the precious mementos gathered in their voluminous travels including a grand century-old Estonian pine armoire bought in the States. One souvenir, though, will be easy to pack a delicate white glass vase circled with dark swirls that was given as a thank you gift to Patrick by Bill and Melissa Gates after a spectacular train trip.

Four years ago, Ian and Joanne Duff stumbled upon an empty historical building in downtown Collingwood. We decided to put in an offer, and the next thing you know we were in the restaurant business, chuckles Ian Duff, a retired software engineer, who owns the Huron Club with his wife Joanne, a retired pharmacist. Turns out, the couples unintentional foray into the restaurant business was a good decision, as the Huron Club has become one of Collingwoods most popular dining destinations. Recently, this GoodLife reporter sat down with the Ian and Joanne at

their 150-seat eatery. Before the lunch rush, we chatted about everything from working with their kids, to the Huron Clubs live music and high rating on Trip Advisor. To round out the conversation, chef Jesse Reed piped in on some of the culinary details.

The Huron Club

What led you to open the Huron Club? ID: Before we were married, we said to each other: wouldnt it be something to own a restaurant one day. Then life got busy with our careers and raising a family. Other than we like to eat and drink [laughs], our education and job experience are not related to the hospitality industry. We also liked the idea of starting a business with an open door for our daughter Kate (age 29), who looks after all of our marketing and graphic design, and son James (age 28), who looks after inventory and the business side of the restaurant.

What planted the restaurant seed? Joanne Duff: Back in the 1970s, Ian started a successful pub with friends at the University of Toronto called Cheeks. Its always been a very fond memory for Ian, and weve maintained close friendships to his classmates who he started the pub with. In a nutshell, thats the backstory.

Why Collingwood?JD: After living and working in Georgetown, we retired to Collingwood. We had been weekenders here for years, and developed a soft spot for the town. We knew we wanted to become a part of this fascinating, four-season community of active, friendly and vibrant people.

Why the moniker the Huron Club?JD: During the renovations, we discovered that the building once housed a mens association called The Huron Club. It was where the town leaders and ship captains would come to socialize. During renovations, the previous owners found a share certificate from the club dated 1914 and we found artifacts from pre-confederation 1867. We had been struggling for a name, but once we learned about the heritage of The Huron Club it seemed perfect! Beyond the Huron Club, the building which dates back to 1880, has been home to many things including: a private residence, Clerksons Furniture store and later a restaurant call the Huron House.

I love how youve restored the vintage fireplaces, wood floors and exposed brick walls. JD: Our renovation process uncovered various hidden gems behind drywall and carpeting [laughs]. We discovered fireplaces, lovely windows, even vintage neoclassical columns covered with drywall! In short, we took away the modern elements and brought back the bones of the house. We are part of Collingwoods Heritage District, and its a heritage building so we were eagerly compliant with heritage renovation/restoration guidelines.

What was your vision for the restaurant?ID: Our vision has always been the same. A nice warm atmosphere where people visit often with friends to enjoy great food, exceptional service and live music.

The open concept lounge offers a great setting for live entertainment. On that note, lets talk about live music.ID: We offer live music in the evenings from Wednesday to Saturday and on winter Sunday afternoons. Collingwood is an amazing place for local talent, so we feature lots of homegrown acts. To shake it up a bit, we also bring in some touring musicians.

JD: On weekends after the dinner hour, it gets a little lively in here and its not uncommon to see some dancing [smiles].

Lets chat about the menu. Looks like I can order anything from a burger to roasted lamb sirloin. JD: Along with lunch and dinner, we also offer a fabulous bar menu. Our priorities are fresh and local, and our chef (Jesse Reed) sources the best local ingredients when available. Most of our seasonal produce comes from a local CSA (Community Shared Agriculture). Jesse makes everything in house from scratch from sauces to desserts. He has incredible creative juices and an amazing passion for cooking and presentation. food, you can taste the love! Lets turn it over to Jesse now. Whats your cooking philosophy?

JR: Food is at its best when ingredients are regional and eaten in season. Cook what your local agricultural community has to offer and keep it simple. When creating a dish, I try to find two or three ingredients that have an affinity for one another and focus on that relationship rather than overwhelming the palate with too many flavours.

Where do you find culinary inspiration? JR: Everywhere! From the markets to cookbooks to cooking at home on my days off. Food ideas and combinations are everywhere. I try to go out and eat at as many good restaurants as I can, seeing what other chefs are doing gets me excited.

What do you cook at home? JR: Its usually ethnic foods, or dishes I dont get a chance to cook at the restaurant. I love foods with big flavour and ingredients. We eat a lot of sushi, Thai, Mexican and generally a lot of seafood. Im lucky though because my girlfriend is an amazing cook. As a result, I get to eat a lot of every chefs favourite dish food made by someone else!

What are some of the house specialities? ID: Everything moves well, but our top sellers include: halibut fish tacos, crispy calamari, Georgian Bay apple and kale salad, roast beef ciabatta, and our award winning Huron Club burger to name a few.

What three course meal would you order for me? JD: I would start you off with our to die for French onion soup (house-made stock, truffle oil, crostini, gruyere). For the main, Id suggest seared Kolapore trout (potato rosti, maple Brussels sprouts, spiced apple sauce, pickled beets, caper creme fraiche). For dessert, you have to try the sticky toffee pudding (with vanilla bean ice cream and Collingwood whiskey caramel).

Do you offer specials? JD: We have Blue Plate dinner specials every Sunday through Thursday from 5 pm to 10 pm (while they last). Any interesting plans for the upcoming (July 24-27) Collingwood Elvis Festival? ID: We are going full throttle again this year! Its the 20th anniversary and Priscilla Presley is even coming to town. We get behind the festival 100 per cent. At the Huron Club alone, we will have over 50 Elvis tribute artists in four days performing on our stage. We will also host a ticketed up close and personal event (Friday, July 25 at 4:30 pm) in our upstairs gallery which features guests who worked with or were friends of Elvis. People like his jeweller, or backups singers that sort of thing. They will tell stories of their experiences with Elvis and mingle with guests. Finally, on the Sunday we host a gospel brunch with live music. The festival is a crazy time for us, but we love it!

Tell me about the patio and upstairs gallery. JD: Diners love our patio! It holds about 60 people and has a lighted tree and a covered roof for shade. Weve even done small weddings out there. The upstairs gallery can accommodate 35 to 40 people for a private sit-down dinner and about 50 people for a standup reception. We do lots of parties and special events up there.

How do you cater to diners with special dietary needs? JD: Our menu features various gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan choices. They are specially marked to help diners navigate the menu.

Tell me about your Sunday Brunch. ID. Brunch runs from 12 pm to 3 pm and features various brunch top sellers along with our regular lunch menu. Our summertime brunch on the patio is especially popular with diners. During the colder months, we feature live music during brunch.

What are some of your favourite foodie destinations?JD: Locally, we try to visit everybody because we are so lucky to have such a wonderful collection of restaurants. We dine at the Stuffed Peasant, Super Panda, Santinis, Tesoro, Duncans, Azzurra Trattoria, Cafe Chartreuse, the Cabin, Beaver & Bulldog and the Tremont Cafe to name a few. We also enjoy venturing out to Thornbury to enjoy Sisis, Bruce Wine Bar and the Mill.

Whats on tap for the future?ID: Were bringing more local flavour to our bar menu. Along with local wines and ciders, we plan on expanding our line of craft beers. We currently feature Creemore, Side Launch and Northwinds, but more are on the way.Joanne Duff: Adding more zeal to our cocktail list is also in the works. Mixology is being

raised to a new bar, and we are going to launch a fabulous new cocktail menu for the summer.

Youve got the ear of thousands of local diners. Anything youd like to add? JD: The downtown Collingwood experience is truly worthwhile. There are just so many things to enjoy from amazing retailers and entertaining festivals to a lovely collection of outstanding restaurants. Visitors to downtown Collingwood wont be disappointed. Lastly, we wanted to add that working with our family and staff has been an amazing experience.

amazing artisanal gelato and farm fresh frozen yogurt.

Talk about farm fresh! When you order a frozen yogurt at Sheldon Creek Dairy, you might spot the cow that produced the milk grazing in a nearby fi eld. Like all of our milk and cream products, our frozen yogurt is farm fresh, natural and local, says Marianne den Haan, whose family has operated a dairy farm on the property since 1953.

Local indeed. Just over two years ago, the family built an on-site dairy to produce and bottle their own milk completely on the farm. We make our frozen yogurt from our Greek yogurt. Its super creamy, thick, very healthy, preservative-free and has no guck, says den Haan, who is also the chief yogurt maker. Flavours are seasonal, ranging from Rhubarb and Local Strawberry (made with local strawberries, graham crumbs and shortbread) to Pumpkin Spice. We even serve up Sweet Corn frozen yogurt, she chuckles. We try to be innovative with our fl avours, but our best seller is probably Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. One or two fl avours are available at a time.

Along with frozen yogurt, visitors can also purchase various Sheldon Creek Dairy products such as whipping cream (its 46 per cent and chefs love it), sour cream, Greek yogurt, choco-late, strawberry (seasonal) and skim milk to name a few. Addi-tional local grocery items line the stores shelves. Five fl avours of Kawartha Dairy ice cream are also available for scooping.

While enjoying a delicious frozen yogurt, guests can also take in some fresh country air and farm life. Our dairy has glass windows so folks can see how our milk goes from farm to bottle, says the local farmer. People love watching us process our milk and dairy products.

Handcrafted in Muskoka by chef/proprietor Shelley Westgarth, the Belly Ice Cream Com-pany serves up gourmet ice cream with a fresh take on classic fl avours. Belly Ice Cream is available locally in pints at Nicholyn Farms, the Creemore 100-Mile Store and Midlands Ciboulette et Cie. Along with take-home containers, Local Foods Mart in Barrie sells the gourmet ice cream by the scoop from May to September. This summer well be stocked up with Belly Ice Cream, says Local Foods Mart owner Julian Daniel. Normally, we sell about six fl avours, but this summer were expanding the store and adding a patio so more fl avours will be on offer. His customers tend to have a soft spot for Belly Ice Creams 16 Va-nilla Bean, Callebaut Chocolate Straight Up and Chocolate Dipped Ontario Strawberry.

Why does Local Foods Mart only sell Belly Ice Cream? It tastes absolutely scrumptious, explains the fi ne food shop owner. Chef Shel-ley Westgarth makes each tub by hand, using real milk, eggs, cream, and genuine local in-gredients like strawberries, maple syrup and rhubarb from her mothers garden. The oil painter and jewelry maker has a studio of her own in Collingwood where she showcases her original designs for intricate and unique jewelry and her abstract oil paintings.

Dorgelo is homegrown in Georgian Bay, having moved to a 100-acre farm in Meaford at the age of eight where she stayed until she graduated from Georgian Bay Secondary School.

I fondly look back on my 100-acre days as tom-girl living, she said. We spent most of our childhood outside exploring and roaming the land The vast variety of patterns, shapes, textures, shade, sun, leaves, forest floors, ploughed fields, tree top views, barn beam jumping, cow herding, bale throwing, creek jumping, pond swimming (yes slugs), fence building, apple picking, tractor driving, weed picking, field stone removing, egg gathering, river ice skating and fort building had a huge impact on me as a child.

Dorgelo spent much of her youth travelling the world, visiting Mexico, Oregon, Australia, Malaysia and Thailand. She worked as a gymnastics coach and in aromatherapy and reflexology. She also spent time living in

Whistler, BC drawn there by the grandeur of the area.

Though artist wasnt a description she gave herself, she was starting down the path.

During these years I quietly and occasionally collected art supplies, never knowing why or what to do with them, said Dorgelo. I was simply attracted to the colours It wasnt until my mid-30s I dared to take my very first art class.

In fact, her first art class was an expressive arts workshop at Georgian Bay School of the Arts, taught by Carol Whyne in Collingwood.

I immediately fell in love with colours and the feel of paint as I moved it expressively across the canvas. I curiously and playfully explored many more workshops in a variety of mediums. I have Carol to thank for running that art school. Its where it all started.

Eventually, she attended Haliburton School of the Arts and she hasnt looked back.

From Juried Art Shows to gallery exhibits and awards, Dorgelo became a strong force in the local art community. Her wire work was featured in a music video for Juno award winner Christopher Mills.

jewelry making, and eventually she opened her own studio boutique called Bonnie Dorgelo Jewellery and Painting at 48 Pine St. in Collingwood.

My approach to jewelry making is very intuitive and often I am inspired by the materials I work with as I touch them and observe the various combinations of colours, shapes, textures, sheens and opacities.

She also paints with golden fluid acrylics and in oil. My paintings are definitely inspired by nature, she said. Growing up on 100 acres, travel, adventure, gardens, plants, trees, earth, sky, water, all contribute to my experience of painting. I feel the colourful spirit of nature permeates through me and all I need to do is to allow it to come through.

Her current series, entitled Earth, is inspired by moment-to-moment changes in nature and in people as constantly evolving.

She is glad to live and work with Georgian Bay as a backdrop, and particularly appreciates the arts and culture community of Collingwood and surrounding area.

As a business owner and an artist she sometimes struggles to balance the administration and workload of owning a business and marketing herself with the creativity and calm required to create art.

Slowing down to quietly listen to the voice of my intuition is when I feel most grounded.

soldiers populate the store shelves.

which to choose? The process takes

time, and dogs abound.

so today i am uncorking my chosen

wines suited to laid-back summer life.

These were chosen from more than

1,000 wines recently tasted. it does

not matter if you are on a city backyard

deck, or basking at the cottage. why

spend $30 or more for fine wines if

the same quality exists for much less?

Besides, these lazy hazy days are best

spent having fun. serious is out.

so i have sifted through my tasting

notes to bring you the best for less.
