With your young
child, don’t use these
to try to teach the
moon phases names.
Instead, gently ex-
plain that the moon
seems to change but
it doesn’t. You can il-
lustrate this with the
moons since each one
is a full circle. Let
your student color the
shadow on each
moon and explain
that the shadow
makes the moon ap-
pear to change.

Color each moon appropriately. After you put your wheel together, glue each
moon on to a blank spot so that they will be seen (one at a time) as your stu-

If desired, let your student color this page. Cut out
cover and pieces on this page. Cut apart the fourpages on the next page. Help your student match
the pictures to the right spaces in order to create a
rebus for this nursery rhyme.
Using a blank piece of paper (preferably colored),
cut it in half (horizontally). Then fold each piece in
half (vertically). Glue the back of one page (of one
piece) to the front page of the other piece.

Discuss clocks with your students. Print on cardstock. Cut out clock and hand.
Attach hand with a brass fastener. The purpose of this clock is to help your
child with number recognition (not with learning to tell time) which is why
there is only one hand.

Cut out house. Using an exacto knife, cut three slits around each window and the
door so that they can be manipulated to open and close.
Cut out the house on the next page. Add some adhesive, but be careful not to add
any on the door or windows. Place the first house on top of the second house mak-
ing sure that the words match up in the right spaces.
Use the house as a game to see if your student can find the rhyming words (words
that rhyme are the same color).

Cut wheels out. Cut away area on the top wheel, as indicated. Attach wheels together using a brass
fastener. Have your child choose eight pictures to put on the “What is a Circle?” wheel. The purpose is
to first exposure to circles—not to discern circles from other shapes. This can be printed on sticker pa-
per making the task easier than cutting and pasting for little hands. I used Avery Full Sheet Labels—
8165.
