Audition and performance dates as well as casting needs can be found below. Audition and tech forms along with detailed character lists and rehearsal schedules are posted on South's edline page under Activities/Clubs/Theatre

Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)

By: Long, Singer, and Winfield

2021-22 Season

Three actors introduce themselves to the audience, and establish they will be performing the ‘entire Shakespeare catalogue’ in 90 minutes. They begin with Romeo and Juliet, move quickly through Titus Andronicus and Othello, and summarizes most of the other plays ending Act One by realizing they forgot to perform Hamlet. After intermission they return by starting with the sonnets and then move into Hamlet several times finishing by reciting it backwards. There will be double cast roles for 3 performers (total of 6 actors) of no gender specific roles (as each actor plays several genders). Each cast will perform a matinee and evening performance. See the audition information for how to audition.

Improv & Sketch Team

After a 1 ½ years of a hiatus we will be rebuilding a new team with a focus on not just improvisation, but also sketch comedy. First semester will not have separate auditions – interested students should either audition for the play/musical and indicate their interest or fill out the interest form on the dept. Google Classroom. Students will be invited shortly after season auditions. Second semester will hold more traditional auditions in January. We are looking to fill a team of 8-12 performers, with potentially an additional 4-6 student as just sketch writers. Make sure you review the rehearsal schedule before committing to expressing your interest

This year we will be holding Season Audition August 25-26, with callbacks on Aug 27. Students who are in theatre or choir classes will have the opportunity to fulfill their acting/singing auditions during class on those 2 days. We will be casting the Fall Play, Musical Principal roles, and 1st semester Improv/Sketch team from these auditions. We will hold a 1 day additional audition day on Oct 26 for students who did not originally audition and are interested in an Ensemble role in the musical. All forms and audition materials can be round on Google Classroom under Classwork/General. It is strongly recommended you review the PSH Theatre 21-22 slideshow to review what is expected and what you need to prepare for these auditions. Finally, don’t forget to be involved in the dept this year you will also need to submit a Season Permission Slip. See Forrest with questions.

Spongebob the Musical Book by Kyle Jarrow Production Conceived by Tina Landau

2021-22 Season Continued

Songs in this musical were written by numerous artists including: Davod Bowie, Plain White Ts, T.I., Panic! At the Disco, Cyndi Lauper. There is no gender breakdown as our contract will allow performers to play any gender, regardless of their personal orientation. Students interested in being cast sign up for a singing/acting audition slot and a dancing slot. All material to prepare is posted on Google Classroom under General Information ! Audition Forms & Material. Students interested in applying for acting and/or technical positions should look on the Google Classroom Classwork page for specifics of what to prepare for auditions, interviews, and necessary forms as well as detailed character descriptions and rehearsal schedules. Please make sure you look at these before auditioning to make sure you have the time to commit to the production.

What is ITS? ITS stands for the International Thespian Society - an honorary organization for high school students who have shown an exemplary level of skill and dedication to the art form of Theatre. Membership into this honorary society affords its members opportunities in our school, state, and beyond. Parkway South High School is privileged enough to have an active troupe and PSH students have the opportunity to gain membership by meeting certain requirements.

How do I become a member of ITS? Not already a member but would like to have this honor bestowed upon you? Here's how you can earn your membership into troupe #3168:

Earn 10 ITS Points at PSH Whether you work tech or are cast in a production, you can earn ITS points towards membership. The number of points you receive depends upon the role/position you played in the production, the number of hours you devoted to the production, quality of the work you produced, and the level of commitment you exhibited throughout the process. Points earned can range from .5 to 8 points for any single production worked on. As a general rule 1 point= approx. 10 hours of high quality work. In order for points earned to be recorded students must have paid dues, owe no money towards production or other costs, and attended Strike.

Work on Productions at Parkway South High In order to earn ITS points and gain membership into ITS, you must work on productions here at Parkway South High. You are required to work either 2 Main Stage Productions or 1 Mainstage and 2 One Acts, or 4 One Acts. If you have worked on productions in previous years at PSH and earned ITS points in the process (see above) those productions can carry over to meet the requirements towards membership

Work in different Categories There are many categories which students may earn points in - acting, production, business, directing, writing, and miscellaneous. Students wishing membership must earn a minimum of 3 points in at least 2 categories with no more than 2 points (accounting for the requirement of 10 for membership) in the category of miscellaneous.

Be active in the dept. and turn in an application New applicants should visit the Google Classroom to see how they can meet all the requirements outlined and apply. Collect required documentation/signatures throughout the school year and turn in the completed application by the published due date (April) to be initiated (May).

What if I was initiated into Junior Thespians? If you had the honor of being initiated into JITS great! Your membership will give you more overall points once you are initiated. 10% of the total points you earned in JITS will transfer into your high school account. This would mean (for example) if you had earned 50 JITS points you transfer 5 to your PSH account. These points will be placed in the Misc category and up to 2 can apply towards your application of initiation.

Where can I find important information about the department?

You have several resources to find important information about what is happening in the department and activities we are involved in. State Conference This year the state conference is planning on returning to in-person (assuming public health allows) and will be held in St. Louis. Students attending will be gone Jan 20-22, 2022. Our goal will be to keep costs to around $400 depending on Thespian status, additional activities students may be entered in, and fundraising the dept may need to hold. PSH's delegation will be limited to 24 students so if this is a priority to you make sure you put your down payment down asap once you have received your invitation to attend. Invitations will be going out by the end of August and will include pertinent details.
