Google Plus Business & +1 Conspiracy

There’s a lot of really exciting things happening right now. The good news is we’ve had some of our bigger clients that were worried. We don’t do any of the black hat crap for our client sites. Of course we tested on some domains from time to time to prove theories and we have just recently done an update last week and we’ve just noticed that there have been a lot of competitors who were using spammy link building techniques to get their clients to the top of the search.

Anyway, this week we will be talking about Google Plus, specifically the new Google Plus business pages, +1s, and of course we have our tool corner. So, maybe we’ll have a little conspiracy theory added here. We really think that just because you are paranoid, it doesn’t mean that we don’t know how to get you.

The new Google Plus business pages looks like they were trying to compete with Facebook. It’s been a long time coming that it’s some cool stuff that’s been going on out there. You can do a couple of searches there and you can find some really interesting stuff around the topic.

We have a Facebook page for a very long time now and we also have our own Google Plus profile. Yes, we did create our brand page. The day came out some time last week, I can’t exactly remember, I can’t figure out how to log in because you have to use your personal account to create the business account. And I couldn’t figure out how to get back on another shade tree bit, which there is a really neat thing now in your Google bar.

As you can see now on the upper right hand corner, you can see switch account and log into other account and then automatically you’ll be able to use things and edit them. I think I was on the wrong account and couldn’t find a spot to get to. It took quite a while until fortunately, somebody awesome on Twitter helped me out and then showed me how to get in there. Now it looks like everything has changed.

So, if the brands start using Google Plus as a way to give out, you know this is something that we suggest to clients whenever they give away 10% or 20% discount coupons and you’ve probably seen this before. Like an FB20, which means you’ll get a 20% off for every purchase with this code, and that FB20 code would only be put on a Facebook page. So we’re then be able to tell our reach for audience on Facebook is ABCXYZ and we put this out with the limit of time and a 1-week offer and we have 1,200 people coming and purchase that code.

Now let’s jump to +1s. There’s a report that came out on Forbes that Google+ will be a universal ranking signal with pretty strong articles that are put on +1 buttons. The title of that article on Forbes was “Stick Google+ Buttons on Your Pages or Your Search Traffic Dies”.

To put it on a nut show, big sites like CNN and Forbes don’t want to have a whole bunch of junk all over their articles because they are on the news outlet and they’ve already got the light buttons up on everything and Google+ buttons.

It will be interesting to see that there’s a lot of buttons up, go ahead and put it up and people will like you. There are lots of developers out there that took the jars up, you know. If you don’t want to drop 20 bucks every time you look somebody’s plug in, give them a 1+ for checking it out.
