cOLOSSIANS 1:15 DEcLARES Jesus the image o the invisible God. He is the visible reetiono God, who is invisible. Tere is a ommon saying or a hild who resembles a parent: He is thespitting image o his ather or She is the spitting image o her mother. In the same manner, Jesusis the peret image and reetion o God the Father.

christians are alled to be onormed to the likeness o christ. Romans 8:29 says, He alsopredestined [us] to be onormed to the image o His Son. As christ reets God the Father, soshould we reet christ in every way. As hildren o God, we want to be the spitting image o

christ beause He is the peret image o God.Whom do you reet most in your lie? Some christians expend energy trying to reet someone

else whom they admire: amily, riends, pop ulture ions, heroes, heroines, and the like. But thesepale in omparison to the surpassing greatness o Jesus christ, who is the image o the invisibleGod. We must always seek to reet christ beause o His surpassing greatness in omparison toall others. We are the hildren o God, and thereore, we ought to reet the image o our Fatherthrough christ.

ake a spiritual inventory o your lie by asking how learly you reet the image o christ.Ten seek to grow as a reetion o the image o christ through regular worship partiipation, prayer, reading and meditation on Gods Word, and learning rom other maturing christians in

    your loal hurh.

His work, we are able to ulll our purposeo bringing God glory.

Gods nature.Christ the Son has revealed

God the Father to us. Haveyou ever heard someone sayto a child, Youre the spittinimage o your daddy? Kidsusually look like their parents. And just like children bear theimage o their parents, Jesusrefects God the Father.

Read Colossians 1:15-20.When we repent o our sin and put our aith inJesus (the perect image o God), He beginsto work in us, shaping and orming us until weresemble our Father more and more. He worksto restore the image o God in us that wasdistorted by our sin.

Gods glory.Jesus Christ is the perect refection o the glory o God. He never

ell short. Our aim should be that others see the glory o JesusChrist. I we proclaim ourselves, there is no glory o God in it. I we

proclaim Christ in all that we do, the glory o God will shine bright

His light has shined in our hearts. Now we are to shine or His glorso that others may be brought out o darkness and into the light

Remember, Christwas not a deifedman, neither was hea humanized God.

He was perectlyGod and at the samtime perectly man.

    Charles H. Spurgeon

Have you thought latelywhether you are seeingJesus correctly? Are youaware that you are seeingGods glory on displaywhen you read about

Jesus in the Gospels? What can help you seeHim or who He truly is?

In what ways are wetempted to withholdglory rom God or seekour own glory?

gods mission. Jesus refected the Fathers mission ineverything He did while He walked the earth. His works were the evidencethat God had sent Him into the world to accomplish a very importantmissionthat mission being the work o redemption He began in theGarden o Eden ater Adam and Eve sinned against Him (Gen. 3:1-16).

    1. gods nAture (col. 1:15-20).

One o the basi teahings o Sripture is that God is Spirit and thereore annot be seen. Hisinvisible nature is a reetion o the at that God is dierent rom the humans He reated. Humansare visible and visual reatures. But God is not limited to our visual world. Tough God is invisible,Sripture makes lear that we have inontrovertible evidene o His nature and power in reation(Rom. 1:20; 1 im. 1:17).

Visible and Invisible. Tese are opposites that seem to be inompatible, right? Visiblereers to what an be seen with human eyes. Invisible reers to what annot be seen with humaneyes. Something visible an be observed, studied, learned, and understood. Something invisible is

mysterious to us and oten difult to understand. But God is the one in whom the visible and the invisible ome together! God, who is invisible,

is made visible through His Son Jesus christ. christ is the image o God. In other words, christ isexatly what God looks like. He makes God visible, thus revealing the nature o God through Hislie, His death, and His resurretion.

Whats more, when we repent o our sin and put our aith in Jesus (the peret image o God),He begins to work in us, shaping and orming us until we resemble our Father more and more. He

works to restore the image o God in us that was distorted by our sin.Tis passage o Sripture teahes that christ was beore all things, whih indiates that He is

eternal. christ is not reated; He is the eternal creator. Whenever the beginning took plae, He

was already there making everything beome a reality. In John 8:58, while debating with the Jewishleaders, Jesus made it lear that He has always existed: I assure you: Beore Abraham was, I am.christ not only reated all things, but He maintains the entire universe. He sustains the order inthe universe. He holds it all together. Doesnt this give you hope? I He holds the universe together, surely He an hold our lives together as christians.

    2. gods glory (2 cor. 4:1-6).

In this passage, Paul the apostle deended his ministry against ritiism while at the same timeelebrating the glory o God seen most learly in Jesus christ. Lets spend a moment ousing onverses 3-4. Do you see how Paul wrote about the gospel being veiled to those who are perishing?

He was reerring bak to an earlier part o the letter where he used Moses as an illustration. What is all this talk about Moses and the veil? Te story goes bak to Exodus. While the

anient Israelites were amped at Mount Sinai in the wilderness, Moses went to meet the Lord onthe mountain or orty days and nights (Ex. 34:28-35). When Moses returned rom being in thepresene o the Lord, his ae was radiant in reeting Gods glory. Moses had to over his ae witha veil whenever he appeared beore the people beause o the radiane o Gods glory was so brightlyreeted in his ae. Tese events happened as the Israelites were on their way to the Promised Land.

Pauls point in using the veil as an illustration was this: the glory that Moses reeted is noomparison or the glory o God reeted in the ae o Jesus christ! Te revelation o God in the law

is outshined by the revelation o God in the gospel (2 cor. 3:9-11). Its like holding up a andle outsidein the brightness o the noonday sun.

Jesus christ is the peret reetion o the glory o God. He never ell short. And the good news isthat one we trust in christs sarie or us and then begin prolaiming the gospel, we too reet the

glory o God in christ. Like the anient people o Israel, we are on mission with God to display Hisglory throughout the world. But unlike the anient people o Israel, we know that Gods glory is seenin its greatest larity in the gospel o Jesus christ.

    3. gods Mission (john 5:36-44).

Jesus reeted the Fathers mission in everything He did while He walked the earth. When He wasin the emple at the age o twelve, He engaged in a dialogue with the teahers o the law. WhenHis parents ound him, Jesus replied, Why were you searhing or me? Didnt you know I had tobe in my Fathers house? (Luke 2:42-52) Te Fathers mission was the onsuming passion o Jesuslie and teahings. But not everyone orretly understood Jesus and the mission that the Father had

sent Him on. In at, those who we might expet to best understand what Jesus was all about werethe very ones who leastunderstood Him.

Tis is lear in Jesus words to the religious authorities in the passage above. Jesus onronted theunbelie o the Jews by telling them that the Sriptures (espeially the Law o Moses) testiy o Him.Even though the Jews studied the Bible, they ompletely missed the true meaning o the Sripture.Tey missed the point: the Sriptures are all about Jesus christ, the Son o God.

Jesus onrontation with the Jews reets the missionary heart o God the Father or the lostsheep o Israel. Te mission God sent His Son to aomplish began with the Jews (Matt. 10:6; 15:24;Rom. 1:16). Te mission ultimately would inlude the whole world (John 3:16).

As Jesus reets the missionary heart o God the Father so should we as christians reet our

missionary God by speaking the truth in love to all people (Eph. 4:15). Jesus spoke truth to Hispeople, even though they rejeted Him. He was willing to risk their rejetion in order that some othem might repent and reeive Him as Savior.

    conclusion

ake a look at the portrait o Jesus in the New estament and you will see the peret piture oGod. Jesus is the peret representation o God the Father. He ame to show us the Father in orderthat we may be saved.

In John 14:7-11, the dialogue between Jesus and Philip illustrates this point very well. Jesus said,I you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and

have seen Him.Jesus is the exat representation o God the Father, and through a right relationship with Him,Gods image in us is restored and made anew. Beause o His love and grae towards us, let us seekto reet and represent Jesus aithully in our everyday lives just as He ame to represent God theFather aithully.
