Visitors are accompanied around the facility for hands-on introduction to the Dingoes by knowledgeable volunteers. The first thing which strikes many is the peace and calm. There is almost complete absence of noise from the 32 canine residents. Usually birds, and the gentle rustling of leaves in the trees soaring above, are all that is heard in the background as each Dingo is introduced with humorous anecdotes, illustrating aspects of their ecology and biology. Beginning with just twoscientists, the Victor Chang Institute is now hometo more than 250 researchers and staff. It is oneof the most respected heart research facilities inthe world and is dedicated to finding cures forcardiovascular disease. After our guided tour wewill enjoy lunch at the cafeteria. Our afternoon takes us to the Careflight base atWestmead where you will enjoy a guided tour ofthe base. In 1986, a group of people had a sharedvision: to create a new kind of medical retrievalservice in Australia. They believed that very sickpatients who need to be moved betweenhospitals, and severely injured patients whoneed to be treated at the accident scene, shouldbe attended by critical care specialists who canperform ‘physician only’ procedures. From thisvision, CareFlight was born.
