However, the trough from the centre of the cyclonic circulation to north of Latitude 28°N at 3.1 Km above mean sea level had become less marked. A fresh feeble Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in mid & upper westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 55°E to the north of Lat. 30°N. A northsouth trough extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level run from SubHimalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across interior Odisha. ON 31 ST JANUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance, then seen as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan & neighbourhood between 3.1 & 3.6 Km above mean sea level with trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 65°E to the north of Lat. 28°N. The northsouth trough extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level from SubHimalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across interior Odisha had become less marked. A fresh Western Disturbance was likely to affect Western Himalayan region from 03rd February night onwards.

SYNOPTIC SITUATION

ON 30TH

JANUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation between 3.1 & 4.5 km above mean sea level over Jammu &

Kashmir and neighbourhood was moving eastnortheastwards. However, the trough from the centre of the cyclonic circulation to north of

Latitude 28°N at 3.1 Km above mean sea level had become less marked. A fresh feeble Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in mid &

upper westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 55°E to the north of Lat. 30°N. A northsouth trough

extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level run from SubHimalayan West Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across interior Odisha.

ON 31ST

JANUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance, then seen as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan & neighbourhood between 3.1 &

3.6 Km above mean sea level with trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly

along Long. 65°E to the north of Lat. 28°N. The northsouth trough extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level from SubHimalayan West

Bengal to Coastal Andhra Pradesh across interior Odisha had become less marked. A fresh Western Disturbance was likely to affect

Western Himalayan region from 03rd February night onwards.

ON 01ST

FEBRUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood then laid over North

Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir between 5.8 & 7.6 km above mean sea level. The trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric

westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 70°E to the north of Lat. 28°N had become less marked. A fresh

Western Disturbance was likely to affect Western Himalayan region from the night of 03rd February. A cyclonic circulation at 1.5 km above

mean sea level had laid over Central parts of Bangladesh.

ON 02ND

FEBRUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood had moved

away. A fresh Western Disturbance had laid as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level

run along 51°E north of 33°N. The cyclonic circulation at 1.5 km above mean sea level over central parts of Bangladesh had become less

marked.

ON 03RD

FEBRUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance then seen as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan & neighbourhood at 3.1 km

above mean sea level with a trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along

Long. 60°E to the north of Lat. 30°N. A feeble Western Disturbance was likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 06th

February.

ON 04TH

FEBRUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over Afghanistan & neighbourhood then laid over

Afghanistan & adjoining Pakistan at 3.1 km above mean sea level. The associated trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with

its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level then run roughly along Long. 65°E to the north of Lat. 27°N. A fresh feeble Western Disturbance was

likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 06th February.

ON 05TH

FEBRUARY 2020: The Western Disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood then laid over Jammu

& Kashmir and neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level. The associated trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its

axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level had moved away northeastwards. A fresh feeble Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in mid &

upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 60°E to the north of Lat. 30°N.

ASSOCIATED WEATHER

Under the influence of the above mentioned synoptic situations moderate rainfall occurred over most places

of Sikkim on 31st January. Weather was mainly dry during rest days of the week.
