This is the first issue of Engineering Technical Practice (ETP) GP 0002.

1. Scope

This GP provides practice for the governance and document management of ETPs (GPs and GISs) andsupporting documents (including GN, RD, etc.).

2. Normative references

The following referenced documents may, to the extent specified in the subsequent clauses and

normative annexes, be required for full compliance with this GP:

For dated references, only the cited edition applies.

For undated references, the latest edition (including any amendments) applies.

3. Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this GP, the following terms and definitions apply:

Data Sheet

ETP supporting document that when completed provides vendors with equipment specific details that

may vary from one application to another. Data Sheets may also continue to provide a concise record

of this detailed information throughout the life of the equipment.

Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs)

BP Groups validated set of Engineering Technical Practices, based, if possible, on internationally

recognised industry engineering standards. ETPs consist of Group Practice (GP) and Group Instruction

for Supply (GIS). ETPs (GPs and GISs) are supported by other information documents which are notconsidered to be ETPs.

Examples of other information documents are Preambles (PRs), Data Sheets

(DSs), Guidance Notes (GNs), Reference Documents (RDs), Vendor Inspection and

Test Plan (ITP), and Vendor Data and Drawing Requirements (VDR).

Entity or BP entityAn organisational unit within BP which may be a Performance Unit, Business Unit, Strategic

Performance Unit, Segments or some logical sub group of one of these, defined by the Segment,Function or Region.

The term BP entity replaces the formerly used term BP Operation.

ETP owner

Specific category SME who manages the administration processes for an ETP including managing

responses to shared learnings, comments, and periodic reviews.

The ETP owner is selected from the Category SMEs and ensures appropriate

representation across all relevant segments in developing the ETP content. The ETP

owner does notown the document content. Document content is owned by the BP

Group with input from across the company.

ETP subject matter expert (SME)

ETP SMEs are identified by the segment EAs as required by GDP 5.0-0001, Appendix 1.

The role of SMEs is defined in GP 00-05.

ETP team

The ETP team consists of the Director - Engineering Standards and his direct reports.

ETP Working Group

Group with representatives from: the segments, other parts of BP, and the Director - Engineering

Standards whose responsibility is to oversee the development, maintenance, and delivery of ETPs to

BP and BP vendors. It also includes the members of the ETP team working for the Director -

Engineering Standards.

Group Instruction for Supply (GIS)

Type of ETP that provides requirements, recommendations, and possibilities for procurement ofmaterials and equipment, or installation or construction services.

Group Practice (GP)

Type of ETP that provides requirements, recommendations, and possibilities for engineering, design,

commissioning, inspection, testing, operation, and maintenance.

Guidance Note (GN)

ETP supporting document that provides good practice and information that is not suitable for inclusion

in ETPs, but is approved and maintained by the ETP SME team.

Reference Document (RD)

ETP supporting document that provides good practice and information that is not suitable for inclusion

in ETPs and is not necessarily approved or maintained by the ETP SME team.

Site Technical Practice (STP)

Documented technical specification or practice used for the safe and environmentally sound design,

modification, maintenance, and inspection of facility/plant at each BP entity.

Supporting document

Group document in the ETP Library that is not an ETP (GP or GIS). This includes Guidance Notes,

Reference Documents, Preambles, and other document types as added to the library from time to time.

4. Symbols and abbreviations

For the purpose of this GP, the following symbols and abbreviations apply:

DS Data Sheet.

ETP Engineering Technical Practice (whether Group Defined or Group Recommended).

ETP SME ETP subject matter expert.

GIS Group Instruction for Supply.

GP Group Practice.

OMS Operating Management System.

STP Site Technical Practice.

5. ETP content

a. ETPs shall be developed and written in accordance with GP 00-10.

b. ETP content shall be formatted and edited in accordance with GP 00-99.

c. ETP development shall be managed using the ETP Library electronic workflow processafter initial draft.

6. ETP approval and publication

ETPs, new and revised, shall go through the content approval process using the ETP Libraryworkflow, as illustrated in Annex A. It shall include:

a. The first stage is approval by the relevant SMEs as selected by the ETP Working Groupexecutive members.

b. The next stage is approval by the executive members of the ETP Working Group.

The executive members of the ETP Working Group include the Director -

Engineering Standards, Director - Engineering and those members designated by

the segment EAs. The remainder of the ETP team are not executive members.

c. Approved ETPs shall be published in the ETP Library.

d. ETPs that have been designated Group Defined shall be subject to approval by the Group

Head of Safety and Operations. This shall be recorded by adding the Group Head of Safetyand Operations to the ETP Working Group approval stage of the ETP Library electronicworkflow.

7. ETP control

a. The master controlled copy of published Group ETPs (GPs and GISs) shall be held and canbe accessed in the live ETP Library - http://etplib.bpweb.bp.comfor BP internal access,and http://etp.bp.com for authorised external access.

b. Any copy, or part, of an ETP, in any format (paper or electronic) shall be considereduncontrolled.

A download utility is available for the complete suite of Group ETPs to be savedon a specific computer. This marks all documents with the date and time of the

individual document download. A BP entity may use these documents to produce a

controlled set of practices using a local control procedure (e.g., to freeze the ETPs

for design of a specific project). This is not used to produce a set of STPs.

8. ETP maintenance

ETPs shall be subject to periodic review in accordance with the following principles:

a. Both the ETP owner and ETP Working Group shall decide and agree priorities for periodicreview.

b. The priority for periodic reviews shall be based on the following:

1. The importance to BP in the reduction of ongoing risk.

2. Changes in the external standards (ISO, API, etc.) on which an ETP may be based.

3. New technologies and/or shared learnings concerning the ETP.

4. As a minimum ETPs shall be reviewed (and republished unchanged if appropriate) nolonger than 10 years from the current published date.

It is the intention of the ETP Working Group that, in time, and as the ETP content

matures, that the average age across all ETPs will be maintained at approximately

five years.

9. Generation and deletion of ETPs

a. Generation and deletion and any other status change of existing ETPs shall be managedand approved by the ETP Working Group.

b. Any request for generation of a new ETP shall use DS 00-101.

c. Any request for a status change of an existing ETP shall use DS 00-102.

d. Completed DS 00-101 and DS 00-102 request forms shall be stored by the ETP teamwithin the ETP Working Group SharePoint site.

10. Administrative changes to ETPs

Administrative changes to ETPs shall not require formal approvals (i.e., changes that do not alter the

intent of the content). Examples of these administrative changes include:

a. Spelling, grammar, and numbering corrections.

b. Revising links or updates to references.

c. Revising terms and definitions or symbols and abbreviations.

11. ETP attributes

a. ETP attributes consist of the following and are stored against each ETP in the ETP Library

as attributes.1. Category.

2. Document scope.

3. Sub category.

4. Date published.

5. Retention status.

6. Document number.

7. Subject/title.

8. Document class.

9. Keywords.

10. ETP owner.

11. SME team.

12. Revision log.

b. ETP attributes shall be allocated by the ETP owner and with the guidance of the ETP teamat the time of publication of an ETP.

12. Supporting documents

a. Documents other than ETPs as defined in GP 00-10 shall be considered as supportingdocuments.

b. Supporting documents shall be developed in accordance with GP 00-10.

c. Supporting documents shall have simple approval processes as follows:

1. GNs shall be subject to informal approval by the Category SMEs. This approval shalltake the form of the owning SME ensuring that all Category SMEs have been emailedwith a copy of the GN and been given at least 15 working days to raise any concerns.

2. After a 21 day period the owning SME may publish the GN in the library withoutneed for further approval, providing any concerns raised within this period by the

category SMEs have been addressed.

3. The ETP Working Group shall retain the right to require other approvals for GNs atits discretion.

4. Supporting documents, other than GNs, shall be placed in the ETP library at thediscretion of any individual SME.

13. Site Technical Practices (STPs)

a. STPs stored in the ETP Library shall not be considered Group content.

b. STPs shall be owned and controlled by the relevant BP entity EA.

c. STPs shall have a document management process as defined by the BP entity EA to meetthe requirements of the OMS essentials.

The specific requirement for an ETP/STP control procedure is specified byElement 3.6 of GDP 5.0-0001
