6 Doves1-1/2 sticks melted butter1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce1 tsp. Garlic salt1/3 cup cooking sherry1 cup chopped mushrooms1/2 tsp. Ground nutmegSalt and pepper to taste1/3 cup flourToastFresh grapes, for garnish

Brown doves on all sides in melted butter in a large skillet. After doves become brown, add remaining ingredients except flour. Cover skilet. Allow to simmer about 20 minutes. Remove the doves from skillet; add to the sauce 1/3 cup flour, forming a roux. Place doves on toast and top with sauce. Garnish with fresh grapes.

Air Gun Demo and Field Shoot!!!

Sunday, October 26th - 1:00PM

Charles Richerson, our resident air gun enthusiast is hosting the first GPGC Air Gun Demo Day. He is furnishing a large variety of air guns plus ammo for the shoot. Scotty York and his HOA Ladies Shooter wife are coming from College Station to help set up the course and organize the event. Several other expert Field Target Shooters may come to show us how and what to do. Besides the event being FREE there are prizes. The door prize is a new in the box Winchester 1000X .177 cal. Also there are 3 gift certificates for the class winners. There will be a Precharged class, a Springer class and an Open Sights class. Charles will run five lanes with two targets on each lane. There will be two shots per target. After the first five lanes are shot we will back up into another shooting location and re-shoot the five lanes for a total of 40 shots. 15 shooters should finish in under 3 hours so sight in will begin at 11:00am and the match will start at 1:00pm. That should put shoot-offs for ties and the drawing for door prize at 4:00pm. The score cards will be dropped in the drawing box right after gift certificates are awarded to class winners and then we will have the drawing for the Winchester. Yes, you have to stay to win the Winchester Air Rifle.Casual Shooting and Sight-in If you don’t want to shoot the event but would like to look at the guns or pop a few targets with no score keeping then there is an area for that. The goal is to stir up enough interest in Air Guns to maybe start a group of field shooters. If you don’t know much about this sport then come out for sure. You will be amazed at the kinds and power and calibers of the air guns. They start at .177 cal. and go to .50 cal. And some will shoot 200 yards. If you have questions contact Charles Richerson.

Give a big thanks to Don Yeandle and Donny Penwell when you see them. They are both fairly new members that joined into the activities of the club as though they had been members forever. They both learned to shoot skeet not long ago and have made large advances. They shoot everything and participate in everything, especially the work projects. When the telephone pole was shotup to the point of breaking Don sent a full crew and a drilling rig to replace the pole and coordinated with Donny who brought a large crane to hold the baffles while pulling the old pole and resetting the new one.

It appears that the old pole was shotup from cross lane firing from station 11 or 12, the 25 yard fixed targets. Please look at what is in line with your shots when on the rifle range. When the poles and baffles are damaged it is very difficult and expensive to repair and it then forces the board of directors to re-evaluate the ranges and pass more restrictive rules on the ranges. In the near future there will be several changes on the pistol and rifle ranges to improve the ranges and to try to help eliminate cross lane firing.

Remember this club belongs to you, the member and when it is damaged it is you and your money that has to repair it. Please control your guests and take care of your club. Sweep up when finished and carry off the trash when it is full. Pick up after your self we have no paid employees. Let us keep the club nice and be proud of it.

Come on out & join us in shooting pistols. We shoot the standard 3 target bullseye match at 25 yards, slow, timed and rapid fire. For those who want to shoot at a closer range, of 7 & 15 yards, you will be competing with those who also shoot at that range. You can shoot any caliber except magnums. Saturday Sep. 27th at 10:00am we had our monthly .22 pistol silhouette shoot. As we were setting up the range a little after 9:00 several shooters were already on the range getting in some quick sight-in shots. We had 9 shooters with a variety of very nice .22 target pistols. The group of shooters has formed camaraderie and a lot of teasing goes on prior to the shoot but everyone cheers each other on. There seems to be new people each month and this is open to non-members. It is also a lot of fun to shoot. It is amazing how often pistol shooters shoot too low. Oh, I forgot to tell you the results. First place was Dan Brown with a Ruger Mark II shooting a score of 36 with open sights and the most inexpensive pistol on the range. Second was Terry Cullender with a 34 ½ score with open sights on a S&W model 41. Come out next month at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 25th, for our next fourth Saturday shoot. Something forthe Kids

Don Yeandle will be running a Saturday morning 22. cal. Shoot for youths. It will be held on the 4th Saturday of each month. The shoot will consist of Gun Safety Instruction mixed with lots of fun shooting out on the range. We will meet at 10:00 on the clubhouse porch. The start time is flexible if all can agree.

Girls and boys age 7 to 13 years are welcome to participate. Youths 14 and up can work as assistants in the class room and field. They will also get some shooting time. We will start with 20 to 30 min. of safety, then shoot for an hour. We will take a snack break with some review of the instruction and shoot for 45 min. or until the ammo runs out.

What to bring??

1) 100 rounds of 22. cal. long rifle ammunition, none of the ammunition will be returned to the youths.

2) Bring their 22. caliber rifle if they have one, if not there will be extra guns you can use.

3) Something to drink and a snack. There are soda machines inside the club house.

4) Ear and eye protection

5) Hat

6) Sunscreen

Experience level kids who have never shot a gun in their life to Billy the Kid. The shooting will be a fun learning experience, and at some point we can set up a friendly competition.

I am in the process of trying to set up a Trapshooting Clinic with Nora Martin Ross as the instructor. Nora is one of the premier trapshooters in the nation at this time and is undoubtedly the top female shooter. Nora is an ATA Hall of Fame member with a shooting career spanning over 32 years. The class will be held at the Grand Prairie Gun Club. For information concerning the site go to www.gpgc.net. The class will be a two day class with the first day beginning at 9:00 AM and ending around 5:00 PM. The second day will be slightly shorter. The cost of the class will be $300.00 plus Targets and attendance will be limited to 10 participants. The class will be during the week either in October or the early part of November, if possible. Summer Skeet League Results

We had a fantastic Skeet League this summer. The weather on Thursday evenings was comfortable, dry and not very windy. Even the hurricanes stayed away. The league was able to accommodate everyone who wanted to attend. We had 32 shooters divided among eight teams. The four man teams seemed to move the shooting along very quick. It was a first for GPGC and it worked out so well we’re doing it again. The final night, Position Night, revealed just how close each team was to winning an award in this handicapped league. The race for the top three team positions was in contention right to the bitter end. For five straight weeks only four points or less separated the four top teams, producing a lot of interest. The final evening saw 1st and 3rd place changes. Many people became believers of the handicapped system we use, which was developed by GPGC member Rick Stockstill. The handicap, along with weekly shooting ability improvements, allowed all shooters to make a run for the awards. It kept this league in a very close race.

meals. We are fortunate enough to have members who volunteer (and can cook!) who arrive early to

cook a buffet breakfast of bacon, eggs and hashbrowns on Saturday and Sunday. We had the world’s best beef brisket for lunch on Saturday and steaks grilled to perfection for dinner Saturday night. The steaks were donated by Joe Miller, Sharon and Randy Walhood, and Jeff Zwiebel. Trust me, no one left hungry. Sunday lunch included

marinated grilled chicken breasts with various side dishes. Also, there was a soft serve ice cream machine that dispensed many bowls of ice cream for two and half days. Sunday was another picture perfect day with seventy shooters in the 20 gauge seeking the championship. Three shooters posted 100’s to make the evening shootoffs.

There were 11 ninety-nines (so close and yet so far!). Pat Byrne, Tami Myers and Charlie Lucas took to the shoot off field with Charlie dropping out early to take 3rd. Pat and Tami went a box and a half before Tami won

the Champion position (Pat, I’ll send you your ‘beat by a girl’ pin in the mail). Another great shoot off in the 20 gauge was Dakota Holder and Jeff Zwiebel for A-4. They went a full box with Jeff dropping the last target to give Dakota the win. Great shooting! Sixty-nine shooters took to the fields in the .410 and Gene Stewart won the

Championship with his 1st one hundred straight in the .410. Gene now has a nicely ventilated hat as a momento of this occasion. Three ninety-nines battled for Runner Up and 3rd. Pat Byrne took Runner Up with Bill Myers as 3rd. The HOA Champion was Pat Byrne with a score of 398. Pat Byrne was the HOA

champ at this shoot last year with his first 400.

The 2008 World Warm up was held at the Grand Prairie Gun Club on September 19-21, 2008. The shoot was full and with today’s economic times, we must be doing something right! We not only had our visitors from the UK, but also had an entry from Austrailia making our shoot truly international. The shoot also pulled shooters from Louisiana, Oklahoma and New Mexico. We sincerely thank all the shooters for coming to our shoot and making it a success. The weather was as perfect as it gets for shooting in Texas. Clear skies, very light wind (if any) and mild temperatures prevailed for the entire weekend. We had forty-seven shooters on Friday for doubles, which was a record for the Club. Pat Byrne won the doubles outright with a lone 99. Steve Landsfeld took runner up with a 98 and Tom Deaton got 3rd with a 97. Seventy-one shooters began with the 12 gauge event Saturday morning. Clear skies and no wind made the targets as good as they get. Three one hundred straights and 8 ninety-nines were posted the board. Mike Jordan, Pat Byrne and David Weintraub took to the shoot off field to determine Champ, Runner Up and 3rd. Pat Byrne won Champ, David Weintraub won Runner Up with Mike Jordan taking 3rd. The 28 gauge had two one hundred straights and 9 ninety-nines. Richard Funk emerged from the shoot offs as Champion with Gene Jackson as Runner Up. 3rd went to Chris Simmons with a 99. And a shoot at Grand Prairie would not be complete without our delicious

Congratulations again Pat, for being at the top of your game at Grand Prairie. Richard Funk came in as runner up with a 397 followed by Bill Myers with a 396 taking 3rd. For the fifth consecutive year, Al Barsh donated custom made knives that were awarded to the event champions. These knives were engraved with a description of the event and date. Thanks Al for your great contribution to this shoot. Mike Skidmore was flawless in running the computer with Jim Speer making sure the scoreboard was always up to date. Thanks Mike and Jim, for all your help. And many thanks to all the club volunteers who cook, clean up, donate, load machines, take photos, tune up the machines, etc. We simply could not have these successful events without all the volunteers. We look forward to seeing all our shooters next year at Grand Prairie! I attended 11 registered skeet shoots this year and I have to say the Grand Prairie shoots are some of the best in the State. This is a direct result of the people who volunteer to work a shoot (cook, clean, load houses, etc.). Our members make the difference in the attitude they convey to our guests. Everyone is greeted and thanked for coming to our shoot. What a difference that makes and it is something people remember and makes them want to come back next year! You may have noticed the new gun racks on every field. This is a direct result of the success of the

shoot and your willingness to volunteer. The following is a list of people who helped and what they did. Hopefully, I didn’t leave anyone out. Thanks again for
