Please always call the school and advise us when your child will be absent. (Messages can be left)

Lates

Please always call the school and advise us when your child will be late. They must check in at the office when they arrive.

Illness while at school

Students must advise their teacher when they are ill and come to the office so that we can contact someone to pick them up. Students should NOT text or call a parent to come and get them, this is for their safety.

Important Reminders from our OfficeSign out during the school day

Parents are required to send a note or write in their child's agenda giving them permission to sign out, include the date and time. Students can then sign out and meet you outside. This is preferable to interrupting an entire class to release your child.

Drop off of items in the office

We do not have room to store items for your child. If you must drop off a lunch or homework, please let your child know so that they can come to the office during their break and pick it up. We cannot guarantee delivery of personal messages to students.

Pick up after school

Parents are strongly encouraged to arrange an off-site pick up location for their child OR arrive after 3:30 to pick up. Our parking lot can become very unsafe for our students at 3:15.

Volunteer Disclosure Forms

Best to complete in now, Grade 7 year!

Often take 3 months to be returned.

Forms are good through the end of your child’s Grade 9 year!

Forms are on side table as you leave.

HACE (Health and Career Education)

HACE is taught three times a year during a two day rotation. (6 days in total)

Students will cover six units of study during this time including strands: Healthy Living, Career Education, Healthy Relationships, Goal Setting, Substance Abuse, and Injury Prevention.

It is extremely important that students attend school during these days.

Mandatory course that receives a letter grade on your report card.

Reporting

Interim Reports: Snapshot that informs you of how well your child is adjusting to middle school. Based on work ethic rather than academic achievement. Come home around mid to late October.

Parent Conferences Term One:

October 21st , 4-7 pm and 22nd , 2-4pm.

(Early dismissal both days 1:17 p.m.)

You will be contacted if your child’s teachers need to meet with you; however, feel free to contact your child’s teacher at any time. Not all parents needed to attend.

KLO Awards’ NightStudents who demonstrate excellence in education are nominated by teachers. Criteria may vary from teacher to teacher. Parents will get a phone call if their child is nominated for an award.

Principal’s Medal of Excellence is awarded to all those students whoreceive straight A’s and G’s in all subjects in all 3 terms.

Homework

Check your child’s agenda at least once a week. Make sure your child is setting up their agenda and using it.Check the calendar on Jupiter GradesCheck the teacher’s website.

HomeworkMost teachers give time in class to complete work. Your child may or may not have homework every night, if not they can always organize, review, and read. If your child has a lot of homework, more than 1 hour per night, it may be and indication that they are struggling, or not using class time wisely. Check with their teacher.End of term tends to be very busy with tests and projects that are due. Stay organized and don’t leave things to the last minute.

PE Program

Set units are taught through the year:

In the Fall:

field hockey, rugby, tennis, volleyball, and fitness testing

In the Winter: ballroom dance, fitness training, self-defense, basketball, weight-training, road hockey/active health, and fitness testing

Spring: football, softball, badminton, minor games, and track and field

Note: Students WILL be outside at all times of the year and need to dress appropriately.

It is important for students to listen to daily announcements and read weekly memos regarding signing up for activities.

Fall Sports: Volleyball, Cross-country, Rugby

Winter Sports: Basketball, BadmintonSpring Sports: Field Hockey, Track and Field, Golf

Other: Debate Team, Honour Jazz, Choir, Clubs, etc.

Mark Your Calendar! Grade 7s will attend school on June 24th to participate in activities thatwill allow them to demonstratetheir understanding of the attributes.
