Veteran teachers Maria Walther and Katherine Phillips share their comprehensive approach

to teaching reading in the K–2 classroom in this must-have resource. Here’s what teachers are saying:

If you’re looking for a professional book that’s jam-packed with novel morning-message ideas, a repertoire of strategy-specific mini-lessons, comprehension conversations for narrative and informational text, vocabulary-building activities, and genre studies, then look no further. Month-by-Month Reading Instruction for the Differentiated Classroom does it all. A necessary addition to any busy teacher’s professional library!

—Sharon Taberski, Author of On Solid Ground and Comprehension From the Ground Up

Maria Walther and Kathy Phillips help teachers find the balance in teaching reading in a systematic yet authentic way. Reading skills are introduced through morning messages; outstanding mentor texts and repeated modeling opportunities encourage all learners to think more deeply about their reading. This is a book you will refer to over and over throughout the school year!

—Linda Tyrrell, First Grade Teacher, DeKalb, IL

This book offers a wealth of teaching and learning experiences for both new and seasoned teachers in primary classrooms. It also ensures the effective use of classroom instruction time to support Common Core State Standards for all learners.

—Paula Loret de Mola Kindergarten Teacher, Aurora, IL
