The rules, regulations, policies, fees and other charges, courses of study, and academic requirements that appear in this catalog were in effect at the time of its publication. Like everything else in this catalog, they are published for informational purposes only, and they do not constitute a contract between the University and any student, applicant for admission or other person.

Whether noted elsewhere in this catalog or not, the University re-serves the right to change, eliminate, and add to any existing (and to introduce additional) rules, regulations, policies, fees and other charges, courses of study and academic requirements. Whenever it does so, the University will give as much advance notice as it considers feasible or appropriate, but it reserves the right in all cases to do so without notice.

The Division of Graduate and Continuing Education is now accepting nominations for the John F. Nevins Outstanding Educator Award.

The award is named after one of Westfield State College’s consummate educators and administrators. Dr. Nevins began his career at Westfield State University in 1969, and served the college in many roles: as a Professor of Education in both undergraduate and graduate programs, as Dean of Undergraduate Studies in 1978, as Vice President for Academic Affairs, 1978-1986, as President, 1986-1987, and again as Vice President in 1987-1988. Dr. Nevins was the recipient of the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education’s Outstanding Educator Award in 1993, and after his death the award was re-named in his honor.

Students in the Division, and faculty, staff or administrative members of the greater college community, may nominate any faculty member teaching for the Division (full- or part-time) during the Summer, Fall or Spring semesters. The deadline for nominations is April 1.

The selection will be made by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from the DGCE student body and Westfield State University administration, staff and faculty. The award will be made at the end of the spring semester.

If you wish to nominate a faculty member for the John F. Nevins Outstanding Educator Award, please fill out the nomination form which can be located online at the DGCE website under Current Student Resources, or www.wsc.ma.edu/dgce/nevins_award.aspx

Some qualities to consider when contemplating a nomination are: • concern with student learning, • openness to other views, • thoroughness in covering material, • knowledge of subject area• commitment to graduate and continuing education students and programs.

A Withdrawal Form is available in the DGCE Office. If you withdraw after the second class meeting, you must obtain the signature of the faculty member.

Non-attendance does not ensure withdrawal from a course. It is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from courses as outlined above, or a “Failure to Withdraw” grade of “F” will result. At the instruc-tor’s discretion, a student may sometimes be reported for non-atten-dance and an Administrative Withdrawal may be requested, but it should not be assumed that non-attendance will result in withdrawal from a course. health insuRance RequiRementChapter 15A of the Massachusetts General Laws mandates that ev-ery full or three-quarter time student in a public or private institution of higher education shall participate in a qualifying student health insurance program. You may waive this insurance coverage if you certify that you have comparable coverage.

Failure to submit the proper waiver form will render you liable for the state-mandated coverage provided by the University and you will be billed accordingly.

Post-baccalaureate and Graduate students are considered 3/4-time at 7 credits and full-time at 9 credits. Undergraduate students are considered three-quarter time at 9 credits and full-time at 12 or more credits.

•Select Westfield State University.

•Select the “Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan” option.
