HistoryoftheCollegeSt.ThomasAquinasCollegeisanindependentCollegeofliberalartsandscienceslocatedinSparkill,NewYork.TheCollegeisempoweredbytheStateofNewYorktogranttheMasterofScienceinEducation,MasterofBusinessAdministration,MasterofScienceinTeaching,BachelorofArts,BachelorofScience,BachelorofScienceinEducation,AssociateinArts,andAssociateinSciencedegrees.TheCollegeopenedin1952andcurrentlyoffersmorethan100academicmajors,minors,andspecializationsattheundergraduatelevelandfivegraduateprogramsinbusinessandeducation.Inadditiontoitsowngraduateprograms,theCollegeenjoysarticulationagreementswithmanycollegesanduniversities,makingitpossibleforgraduatestopursueadvanceddegreesinacademicareasnotcurrentlybeingofferedbytheCollegeitself.TheCollegeenrollsstudentseachyearatalllevelsofstudy,withoutregardtorace,sex,color,age,nationalorigin,religiousaffiliation,orphysicallimitations.Themajorityofundergraduatestudentsarefull---time,andfreshmentypicallyenrollafterhighschool,with60%choosingtoresideoncampus.Graduatestudentsaremostoftenworkingprofessionalsintheareasofbusinessandeducationandthusarepart---timestudents.TheCollege’s13,000alumniresideprimarilyintheMiddle---AtlanticStates,althoughalumnidolive,work,andstudyacrossthecountryandtheglobe.TheMissionofSt.ThomasAquinasCollegeflowsfromitsfounders,theDominicanSistersofSparkill,andreflectscoreDominicanandRomanCatholicvalues.Theprincipleof“enlighteningthemindthroughtruth”servesasaphilosophicalunderpinningtoacollegeeducationcommittedtorigorousscholarlyworkandthepreparationofstudentsasarticulateandresponsibleleadersinaglobalsociety.St.ThomasAquinasCollegecreatesawelcomingenvironmenttoenhancealiving---learningexperiencethatfostersintellectual,moral,social,andspiritualgrowth.

Applicationandallsupportingmaterialsmustbesubmittedby:June30forFallAdmission;November15forSpringAdmission;March1stforSummerAdmission.ADMISSIONREQUIREMENTSFORNON-DEGREESTUDENTSNon-degreegraduatestudentsarethosewhowishtocompletecourseworkforprofessionalorpersonalenrichmentortotransfercredittoanotherinstitution.Generally,sixcreditsmaybetakenasanon-degreestudent.Personswishingtotakesixadditionalcreditsmustsubmitthefollowing:

1. Acompletedapplicationformandfee.2. Officialtranscriptsfromtheinstitutionthatawardedthebaccalaureatedegree.

GRADUATESCHOOLOFBUSINESSADMISSIONSREQUIREMENTSFORTHEMASTEROFBUSINESSADMINISTRATIONApplicantsmustsubmitacompletedapplicationformandanon-refundableapplicationfee.Thefollowingcriteriaareusedinevaluatingapplications:

1. ABachelor’sdegreefromanaccreditedinstitutionwithaminimum2.8undergraduateGPA,basedona4.0overallgradepointaverage.Transcriptsofacademicrecordsfromallundergraduateandgraduateschoolsattendedmustbesubmitted.Astudentwhoseundergraduateindexislessthana2.8may,insomecircumstances,beadmittedunderaprovisionaladmissionstatus.(Seebelow)

2. Threelettersofrecommendationfromemployersorcollegeprofessors.3. GraduateManagementAdmissionTest(GMAT)scores.(UseSTACCode#39Z-05-10.)Waiversof

theGMATexaminationareavailabletoSt.ThomasAquinasCollegegraduateswhomeetallothercriteriaforadmission,andmaybeavailabletootherapplicantswithaminimumoffive(5)yearsfull-timebusinessexperienceatincreasinglevelsofmanagerialresponsibility.WaiversarealsoavailableforapplicantswhoseundergraduatedegreesarefromcollegeswithwhomSTAChasarticulationagreementsandwhomeetallothercriteriaforadmission.

GENERALACADEMICINFORMATION

AllgraduatestudentsareultimatelyresponsibleforbeingknowledgeableabouttheinformationcontainedinthisBulletin.ACADEMICCALENDARAllgraduatestudentsaretoobtainanAcademicCalendarcontainingcurrentacademicandprogramdates.Calendarsareavailableinthegraduateprogramoffices.ADVISEMENTAllgraduatestudentsareassignedafacultyadvisorandareencouragedtoconsultwiththatadvisorregularly.ACADEMICINTEGRITYAcademicintegrityisacommitmenttohonesty,trust,fairness,respectandresponsibilityinanacademiccommunity.Anacademiccommunityofintegrityadvancesthequestfortruthandknowledgebyrequiringintellectualandpersonalhonestyinlearning,teaching,researchandservice.Honestybeginswithoneselfandextendstoothers.Suchacommunityalsofostersaclimateofmutualtrust,encouragesthefreeexchangeofideas,andenablesalltoreachtheirhighestpotential.Anacademiccommunityofintegrityestablishesclearstandards,practicesandproceduresandexpectsfairnessintheinteractionsofstudents,facultyandadministrators.Werecognizetheparticipatorynatureofthelearningprocessandwehonorandrespectawiderangeofopinionsandideas.Weallmustshowrespectfortheworkofothersbyacknowledgingtheirintellectualdebtsthroughproperidentificationofsources.Anacademiccommunityofintegrityupholdspersonalaccountabilityandsharedresponsibility.AcademicintegrityisessentialtoSt.ThomasAquinasCollege’smissiontoeducateinanatmosphereofmutualunderstanding,concern,cooperationandrespect.AllmembersoftheCollegecommunityareexpectedtopossessandembraceacademicintegrity.Academicdishonestyisanybehaviorwhichviolatestheseprinciples.ACADEMICPROBATION/DISMISSALAllgraduatestudentsmustmaintaina3.0gradepointaverage.AstudentwhosesessionG.P.A.islessthan3.0,orwhosecumulativeG.P.A.fallsbelow3.0,willbeplacedonAcademicProbation.TheMBADirector,theMPA-CJDirector,ortheDirectorofGraduateEducationwillevaluateallstudentsonprobationattheendofeachgraduatesessionandwillmakeappropriaterecommendationsfortheirstatusintheprogram.Theserecommendationsmayincludecontinuingprobation,academicleave,ordismissalfromtheprogram.TheappropriateSchoolDeanwillreviewsuchrecommendationsandrecommendpossibleactiontotheProvostoftheCollege.CERTIFICATIONGraduateEducationStudentswhohavemettheacademicandprofessionalstandardsoftheSchoolofEducationwillreceiveanInstitutionalrecommendationforcertificationatthediscretionoftheDean.CHANGEOFPROGRAMMSTandM.S.Ed.candidatesdesiringtotransferfromoneprogramtoanothermustfileanotificationtothiseffectintheGraduateEducationOfficeandRegistrar’sOffice.COURSEDESIGNATIONSGraduateEducationcoursesareasfollows:MSTcoursesarenumbered2000-2999andabove.M.S.Ed.coursesare3000andabove.

COURSELOADMSTcandidatesaretypicallyfull-timestudentscarryingninecreditseachsemester.Full-timeM.S.Ed.candidatesshallcarryaminimumofninecreditseachsemester.Thosewhoareemployedareconsideredpart-timestudentsandwillcarryamaximumofsix(6)creditseachsemester.Part-timestudentsrequestingtotakemorethansix(6)creditsinasemestermustreceivepermissionfromtheDirectorofGraduateEducation.Afull-timeMBAcandidateshallcarryatleast6creditseachquarter.Thosewhocarry3creditsareconsideredpart-time.Afull-timeMPA-CJcandidateshallcarryatleast6creditseachquarter.Thosewhocarry3creditsareconsideredpart-time.DEGREECOMPLETIONAllcoursesarecycledsothatstudentsmaycompletedegreerequirementswithinareasonabletime,asfull-timeorpart-timestudents.

• MSTcandidatestypicallycompletetheprogramin16months.• M.S.Ed.candidatesmaintainingfull-timestatusgenerallywillcompletedegreerequirementsin

oneacademicyearandtwosummers.• MBAstudentsregisteredfor3coursesperquarterandhavingtheappropriateundergraduate

waiversshouldbeabletocompletealldegreerequirementsinonecalendaryear.Studentsareexpectedtocompletethedegreewithinfiveyears.

• MPA-CJstudentsregisteredfor3coursesperquarterandhavingtheappropriateundergraduatewaiversand/orcreditsgrantedshouldbeabletocompletealldegreerequirements(withtheexceptionofathesis)inonecalendaryear.Studentsareexpectedtocompletethedegreewithinfiveyears.
