InFebruaryof2016IjoinedKingspanasaTechnicalEngineerforthedoorbusinessinNorthAmerica.InmyroleIamtaskedwiththedesignandimplementationofnewproductsaswellasassistingwithdaytodayoperationontheproductionfloor.IwasimmersedintothebusinessfromdayoneandtheexperienceIhavegainedinsuchashortperiodoftimehasbeenhugeformyprofessionaldevelopment.

Dawn ThompsonChemical Research Engineer PhD Chemical Engineering – Queens University Belfast

AsaChemicalResearchEngineer,myroleinvolvescontinuousresearchanddevelopmentofnewandcurrentinsulationproducts,ensuringproductcompliance,assistinginauditingourcurrentproducts,liaisingwithothermembersofthechemicalteamandhelpingwithdifficultprojects.IhavebeenfortunatetotraveltomanyofthedifferentKingspansites,gainingsignificantexposureofourprocessandtheabilitytonetworkwithemployees. Alongsidethismymanager,theChemicalDirector,hasinvitedmetohigh-levelmeetingswithotherteammembersandalsooursupplierswhereIhavebeenabletogaininvaluableexperience.ThehighlightoftheDevelopmentProgrammewaswhenwepresentedtoourCEO,BoardMembersandManagingDirectorsassmallgroups,onwherewethinkKingspanwillbein10yearstime.Itwasaverydauntingbutrewardingexercise,andsuchafantasticopportunity.

IjoinedKingspanin2016asastructuralengineerandhavesinceworkedonarangeofdifferentstructuraldesigns.AmajorpartofmyworkinvolvescarryingoutbespokecalculationsandmodelsfortheuseandsuitabilityofvariousKingspanproducts.ThisofteninvolvesconsideringnewandinnovativeapplicationsandcontributingtoresearchanddevelopmentandoccasionallytravellingtootherKingspansitesintheUKandinEurope.

WorkingforKingspanhasprovidedmewiththeopportunitiestocontinuetodevelop.BybeingexpectedtotakeresponsibilityforprovidingsolutionsforstructuraldesignproblemsanddevelopmentsIhavebeenabletocontinuetoimprovemyprofessionalengineeringskillsandknowledge.

Sean Mc Guinness R&D EngineerBachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechanical Engineering – Dublin Institute of TechnologyIn2016,IjoinedtheKingspanCentralEasternEurope&RussiadivisionasamemberoftheR&DteambasedintheCzechRepublic.Thisisaverydiverseteamanditenablesmetobeinvolvedineachstageofproductdevelopment,fromideageneration,throughtotestingandcertifications.AnotherenjoyableaspecttomyroleisworkingwithdifferentdepartmentswithinKingspan,suchasproduction,engineering,commercialandfinance.JoiningtheGraduateDevelopmentProgrammehasbeenofgreatbenefittomeprofessionallyasitprovidedmewithaccesstomultipletrainingcoursesandseminarsspecificallydesignedtodevelopmyprofessionalcareer.Iwasassignedamentorwhoisfocusedonmydevelopmentneedsandcareerobjectivesandishelpingmetoachievethem.MymentoralsogivesmeguidanceondevelopingtheskillsthatIneedforworkinginamultinationalorganisation.

In 2005, Louise Foody joined the Kingspan graduate programme as a marketing graduate. In 2017, Louise was named as one of Ireland’s most powerful women – an achievement she earned through her career at Kingspan. Sincejoiningthebusiness,IhavelivedandworkedacrosstheglobefordifferentdivisionsofKingspan.Ihavehadtheopportunitytomakearealdifference,overseeingawiderangeofcommercialandmarketingprojects.TheexperienceIgainedhaspreparedmeformycurrentroleasGlobalMarketingDirectorforKingspanInsulatedPanels.

Mel Courtney Global Business Unit Director, Fabrications, Safety, Energy and Lighting

Mel Courtney joined the Kingspan Graduate Programme in 2005 as a process engineer. Mel has made his way through the business holding roles in engineering and operations and is now a Business Unit Director. Mel achieved Chartered Engineer status and completed a part time MBA which was all part of his career development at Kingspan.Asidefromengineeringexperience,theKingspanGraduateprogrammegavemeaninsightintothe commercialandfinancialaspectofprojectsandtheabilitytoassesstheeconomicbenefitoftheprojectoutcome.IbenefitedfromgainingastrongoperationsmanagementbackgroundinavarietyoffactoriesanddivisionsacrosstheKingspanGroupwhereIwasaffordedanenviablebalanceofstrategic,operationalandgeneralmanagementexposure.
