Library News

16 sleeps to go! Already the countdown has begun to our GPS Ninja Warrior-thon on Friday 5th April. On Friday 5th April, Obstacool will be setting up a large inflatable obstacle course in our bottom Primary playground. Each grade will spend a half hour timeslot working their way around the course. We are sure that there will be lots of determination shown as well as lots of smiles and laughter. Thankyou to those who have already returned their $5 participation money which also includes a brightly coloured ninja bandana, which will be handed out during the week of the event. Keep getting that sponsorship money together as the highest fundraiser overall receives a new bike and there are lots of other great prizes on offer including Saraton movie tickets. All money raised from this major fundraiser will be used to purchase additional resources for all classrooms. On the day, we are going to set up a special parents “grandstand” where families can come along and watch the fun.

As sad as it is to report, we have had a bike stolen recently from the Primary Campus bike racks. As you are aware, we actively promote riding bikes to school but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can each child have a bike lock for their bike.

Brief But Important

Thankyou to all of those families who have paid some or all of their fees owing. Your co-operation in this regard makes the overall financial operation of the school a little easier. At Grafton Public School, the voluntary school contribution for each student is $30. As an incentive for families to pay this by the end of Term 1, we are offering 4 x $50 Lowes vouchers to use on school uniforms. The names of all students who have paid their $30 school fee by the end of term will be placed in a draw and 4 lucky families will receive a Lowes voucher.

Payment can be made in cash, cheque, by EFTPOS at our Primary office, or online through our Parent Online Payments link on our website. If you wish to pay the invoiced fees one at a time, all at once or make a payment plan of a certain amount each fortnight that is fine. To arrange such a payment plan, please speak to Jo or Miss Karen in the office.

Online Safety—Point 1

HPV Central Every Friday morning, GPS conducts a Bike Bus, being supervised riding of bikes to school. A return home service also operates. The teachers accompanying the children take all reasonable care to ensure the safety of the children. Parents and carers are welcome to join us for the ride. Vital information to get you going: * Bike Bus operates every Friday (weather permitting) If you are new to Bike Bus check out the map below so you know where to meet the gang.

HELPFUL TIPS This one might sound obvious; get a bike lock. They are a deterrent against

theft and in most instances will save you money and heartache. All bicycle shops and major stores (Big W, Target etc) stock a variety of locks.

Wear a helmet with the straps clipped. Critical head injuries can be caused by even a ‘low-speed’ crash. Wearing an Australian Standards helmet can help significantly in reducing major head trauma. It will also save you from being fined $319 for not wearing one.

Organise a group of school students who live nearby to ride to school together.

Next week I’ll provide tips on what to look for when buying a bicycle for a child.

In the mean time enjoy this selection of helmet designs available for children.

Last week’s recipients of the Grafton City Cycles $20 voucher are...Zoe Banfield and Tristan Messer
