In 2010, 10% of the Kenya maize crop had to be destroyed because of excessive

aflatoxin levels.

An estimated 4.5 billion people in developing countries are at risk of uncontrolled, or poorly controlled exposure to AF.

Up to 40% commodities in local African markets exceed allowable levels of AF for foods.

A cross sectional study in Ghana shows that immune systems of HIV infected people are significantly modified if they have above median levels of natural exposure to AF.

People with a high AF biomarker status in The Gambia and Ghana were more likely to have active Malaria.

• Building the capacity of farming communities, women, men & youths to effectively participate in sustainable cereal production.

• Aggregate 2,400 MT of grain for food security and trade, at hedged market prices.

• Intermediation in contract farming and forward supply contracts for the cereal sector.

• Enhancement of payment systems to support value chain linkages including inventory management systems.

We undertake extensive farmer training starting from production, post harvest management of crop to gaining better paying markets, all geared towards improving their productivity and incomes

Impact So Far• Established a pilot project in collaboration with NIB within the Bura Irrigation Scheme (Coast Province) benefitting 2000 households, extended to Meru (Eastern Province) and will be going to northern Kenya (Turkana)

• 610 MT grain aggregated by end April mainly for food security, traders coming on board, WFP registration

• Aflatoxins field testing on-going, no major issues

• Farmers keep to adopt technology and post harvest best practices. Understand how to leverage technology and to work as groups to gain better market prices
