Rule 2• Use a pair of commas

in the middle of the sentence to set off:• Clauses, phrases,

words that are not essential to the meaning of the sentence

• My dad, the oldest in his family, hates spiders.

• Mary, my teacher, loves to dance.

Rule 3Use commas to separate three or more words, phrases, or clauses written in a series.

• I like baseball, basketball, and soccer.

• Do you want ice cream, cake, cookies, or brownies for dessert?

Rule 4• Use commas to set

off• Geographical places• Items in dates

(except month and day)

• Address (not street number and name)

• And titles in names

My oldest sister the one who plays volleyball, thought it was a great pick. “You’re picks are amazing,” she said “So you can pick all of the time?” (17)
