The Regional District of Koote-nay Boundary will not be sending a letter calling on the government to put a halt to the installation of smart meters.

However, the regional district (RDKB) is going to petition the gov-ernment to recommend a review of Health Canada’s safety code.

Acting on information and re-ports submitted to the RDKB, dis-cussion about the safety and health concerns of smart meters was added to the agenda at the board’s meeting in Grand Forks Thursday.

A small group of concerned citi-zens attended.

Chair Grace McGregor began by explaining that in regards to smart meters, local government does not have any jurisdiction.

A recent resolution by the Re-gional District of Okangan Similka-meen (RDOS) has no teeth, she ex-plained. That district requested the metering project be stopped and that all smart meters already in-stalled be removed.

“We need to take a stand on what we can take a stand on,” Mc-Gregor added.

Before making his motion, Area D/Rural Grand Forks Director

Roly Russell explained that autho-rized actions are limited. “There needs to be clarity as to what is, and what is not, the RDKB’s man-date and jurisdiction.”

Therefore, “It is resolved that the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary Board of Directors peti-tions the Premier of British Colum-bia, the Honourable Christy Clark, the Minister of Health, the Hon-ourable Terry Lake, and the Chief Medical Health Offi cer for B.C., Dr. Perry Kendall to recommend review of Health Canada’s Safety Code 6 to ensure appropriate pro-tections for our citizens, based on the precautionary principle and a

transparent review of the available research.

“Further, that the board also pe-tition the Government of Canada to work in collaboration with the health departments of the provinc-es and territories, to examine exist-ing cancer data collection methods in order to improve the collection of information relating to wireless device use and cancer.”

“The resolution we passed has a way bigger impact [than the RDOS resolution],” McGregor said.

The best action for citizens is to take their concerns to their MLAs and to health authorities, both she and Russell stressed.

Pet of the Week RozyHello, world, my name is Rozy! I am my mom’s new BFF. I stole her heart the moment she saw me. I am eight weeks old and a mixture of breeds Mom can’t spell, but I will be small and that’s good because she will hold me lots. I have already made friends with the neighbours Lucky and Rowdy, and I’m proving how smart I am by learning to come, pee outside and walk on a leash. My only real challenge so far is teaching Mom how to put on my halter, but I trust I will not always wear it upside down.

How to enter your pet: It’s free. Send your digital photos, and a write-up of up to 75 words, by email to: [email protected]. Please put the words “Pet of the Week” in the subject line, and include your contact information. You can also bring in a photo to our office at 7330 2nd Street. Pets that have very recently passed away may be submitted.

The Hardy Mountain Douk-hobor Village Historic Site is now in the hands of the Region-al District of Kootenay Bound-ary (RDKB).

At its monthly meeting Thursday in Grand Forks, the RDKB board agreed to buy the site’s building and lands from The Land Conservancy (TLC), via the transfer of the proper-ty’s title and assumption of the mortgage of approximately $37,892.50 (depending on closing date).

The Land Conservancy approached the RDKB about buying the site, explained Area D/Rural Grand Forks director Roly Russell.

“They were coming to us because they had a property that had specific restrictions on it for its use and they thought they would come to us first,” he said, adding that from his perspective, it’s a fairly low-risk opportunity.

Given The Land Conservancy’s filing for bankruptcy and a “Plan of Compromise and Arrangement” with the Supreme Court, the decision to purchase the property was deemed urgent.

“We’re now at the point where we can get into the planning of how we are going to move forward with the property; we do not have any concrete plans at this point,” Rus-sell said.

The ideal scenario would be to establish partnerships with any groups interested in the site.

“That’s a big conversation that we have yet to get to,” the director added.Possible uses of the buildings and lands include educational, historical, cultural and

tourist purposes.Costs for the proposal will be covered with Area D gas tax funds. The Hardy Mountain Doukhobor Historic Village Site is a 16.9 acre property contain-

ing what remains of the historic Makortoff Doukhobor Village and overlooks the Kettle River and Granby River valleys. It’s located in Area D one kilometre west of the city and is within the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The village was acquired by TLC from the previous owner who operated the heritage building as a museum and tourist attraction. The property is significant culturally as it represents the only remaining Doukhobor “great house” in B.C. on its original site and has been designed as a heritage service by the RDKB as well as a historic site by the Na-tional Trust for Canada.

The site is largely intact and the communal house is still in an exceptionally good state of repair. This acreage was also the site of many other village buildings, of which five are still standing. They too are full of historic implements and tools that were used by the Doukhobor pioneers to farm the land.

Boundary-Similkameen MLA Linda Larson joined city representatives at the Grand Forks Municipal Airport Thurs-day to announce a $45,000 grant for bea-con upgrades.

The B.C. government is investing in beacon site upgrades at the airport as part of B.C. on the Move, the province’s new 10-year transportation plan.

The funding, awarded through the new B.C. Air Access Program, will be used to replace solar-powered, remote standard beacons and regular-powered beacon sites with LED-powered beacons.

The Grand Forks airport is the only airport between Kelowna and Cran-brook capable of providing 24-hour Medevac emergency night flights, Lar-son pointed out.

“These upgrades are anticipated to reduce operating and maintenance costs, and remain in service for the next 15 years.”

“Improving and upgrading infra-structure at B.C.’s airports is critical to our economy by facilitating trade, travel and tourism,” Larson said. “This invest-ment in Grand Forks Municipal Airport will provide a boost for the city, the re-gion and its residents.”

Grand Forks Mayor Frank Konrad said the city is pleased about the fund-ing and thanked the province and the Ministry of Transportation and Infra-structure for selecting Grand Forks as a recipient for the funding.

“These dollars will be put to good use for the replacement of the Grand Forks Airport beacon site lighting. The current system, which has regular pow-ered lighting, will be replaced with LED lighting, making them more energy ef-ficient and cost effective.”

Through the B.C. Air Access Program, the Ministry of Transportation and In-frastructure cost shares with public air-ports on projects such as lighting and navigational systems, terminal building expansion or upgrades, and runway im-provements.

These types of projects allow airports to improve safety and accommodate larger aircraft and more frequent flights, supporting the continued growth of lo-cal and provincial economies.

The program also encourages fund-ing partnerships with the federal gov-ernment, local and regional govern-ments and agencies, and the private sector.

This year’s B.C. Air Access Program funding allocation is $6 million.

Some might see the lawsuit from the Barrie fam-ily as frivolous. The family names several defen-dants including the City of Grand Forks, the com-munity of Christina Lake, RDKB, several provincial government offices, as well as the other families in-volved in the tragedy. There is no doubt that the drowning deaths of Andrew Barrie, as well as Ron and Jacqueline Legare, were tragic.

The lawsuit contends that all the government bodies mentioned above promoted tubing but did not warn of dangers. However, should the city be responsible for signage? What about the regional district? Bodies of water technically are provincial jurisdiction, so should the province place signs at every river throughout B.C. warning of potential dangers?

Most local people know about how dangerous the Kettle becomes as it winds its way towards Cas-cade Canyon. Most reasonable people would see tubing down rapid water as well as jumping off of a bridge into the water as inherently risky.

It seems like around here it’s a case of one level of government passing the buck to another. If a sign prevents even one accident, it would be worth the investment.

HOW TO REACH US

Didn’t I just go on vacation like yesterday?

While I’m back from another vacation. I had a week off which ended up being 10 days when you add in the weekends and the stat holiday on Monday. Weekends off are never a given when you are a reporter so it was nice to have that extra time. I was able to travel to Vancouver Island and do some camping and exploring.

I also got to stay with my mom in Oliver which is always a treat. The lake is beautiful at this time of year—actually, any time of year but you get the point.

I’m always amazed at my mom’s ability to nap at any time in front of the TV. Me, I need a nice bed and quiet and darkness be-fore I will succumb to sleep. Mom will be knitting and fall asleep mid-stitch. The TV can be blaring and she has no problem snoozing.

Of course, if I try and open a cup-board in the kitchen and sneak out a bag of chips, she’ll awaken instantly and give me the “what are you doing in there?” scold.

Funny how no matter what age we are (am I really almost 50?) when we go home we’re like children once again. I guess that never ends which is the way it should be.

So I tried to get my mom hooked up with Netflix. Since Dad passed a few years back she has gotten more interested in computers and electronics. She in-herited Dad’s Samsung Tab (iPad type) and has been using it since. She loves to check email and read the latest news about Oliver on the local paper’s website.

My father loved to watch sports on the big TV. Golf mostly, but also hockey, curling, baseball, football, and even my beloved basketball. He also liked online pools whether for money or not. I always run basketball pools and he was invariably the first to sign up.

Now that mom has full reign of the living room TV, there’s a lot less sports. She still likes to watch golf but prefers PBS style British murder mysteries usually with some curmudgeonly old detec-tive.

For a while now her friends have been talking up Netflix and she is interesting in getting it. So we went out and got a Chrome-cast device to plug into the TV. The idea is you put Netflix on the tab and it wirelessly projects onto the TV through the Chromecast.

While, I couldn’t find the Net-flix app on her tab. It said the tab was too old. So I found a work around and downloaded an older Netflix app from a website. While that worked fine and I signed her up. But the “casting” wouldn’t work either because the tab was too old. So the device was basi-cally useless and we’re back to square one.

Fortunately, she will be able to watch Netflix through Telus Op-tiks, which she signed up for.

So after all that I headed to

the island for some camping. I’m not much of a camper but after spending $75 on the ferry (each way) I sure the heck couldn’t af-ford any motel.

Last year I borrowed camping gear from my sister. It worked pretty well except for the air mat-tress which kept deflating. Now I’m a large fellow so I get it but it was still pretty annoying. I would finally get to sleep after an hour of being serenaded by crickets and owls and I would awaken an-other hour later on a flat mattress. I would then have to flip myself over and push myself up and try to find the opening flap and not trip over the entrance as I basi-cally launch myself out of the tent which is certainly not made for grown men.

Then I would take the deflated mattress and pump to the nearby washroom building to pump it up and hopefully not wake everyone up in the campsite.

Anyways, the new air mattress worked much better. It has a hand or foot pump and was able to last

the entire four days with no prob-lems.

That’s not to say I slept perfect-ly. I still tend to hear every little peep from every nearby creature. Some people enjoy that aspect of camping but for me not so much. But I’m getting better. The bigger, firmer mattress helped as did the quick assembly pop-up tent.

I still remember the time I went camping as a youngster with my cousin Joe. We put our tent up and went to sleep.

In the middle of the night we got up and I said, “Joe, look up at the stars and tell me what you see.” Joe replied, “I see millions and millions of stars.”

I said, “and what do you de-duce from that?” He said, “Well, if there are millions of stars and a few of those have planets, it’s quite likely some of those planets could be like earth. And if there are planets like earth out there, there might also be life.”

I then said, “Joe, you moron, it means that somebody stole our tent.”

Smart Meters, Electromagnetic Health Effects, and Fire Danger: FACTS, NOT FICTIONThe Grand Forks Watershed Coalition and Greater Grand Forks Area D residents will host an educational forum about Itron smart meters on

Malcolm Paterson, Ph.D., will speak on the following topic:

The Electromagnetic Age -A Sleeping Giant?

Malcolm Paterson, PhD, is an internationally recognized molecular oncologist whose career in cancer researches spanned over 40 years on 3 continents. Dr. Paterson will review the health-related science of wireless devices including smart meters, mobile phones, and Wi-Fi in schools. Learn the science-based facts and what you can do to protect the health of yourself and your family.

Wednesday, August 12, 2015 6 - 8 p.m.Seniors’ Centre, 565 71st Avenue, Grand Forks

We will also show a video interview of Sharon Noble, Director of the Coalition to Stop Smart Meters, discussing recent Texas court decision alleging Itron smart meters are defective, and a fire hazard.

Written comments and questions are continuing to be collected for presentation in a Grand Forks Smart Meter Manifesto. Please send letters to: Karin Bagn, P.O. Box 2012, Grand Forks, B.C. V0H 1H0, or email to: [email protected].

United we stand; divided we fall. Help us educate ourselves and others, and support the health and safety of our communities.

Please join us and share your questions and concerns.

Brain tumors, Alzheimer’s dementia, sleep disturbances, decreased memory, male infertility, immune dysfunction, childhood learning and behavioral impairments – are all linked by scientific studies to Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs). The World Health Organization has classified EMF - producing wireless devices as possibly cancer-causing.

It’s time to cull the deer herd

Use meters for data collection

Editor, The Gazette:I wish the animal activists

would come and see the chaos created by the “cute bambis” who roam the streets of Grand Forks.

Despite my best efforts: deer fencing, reflective tape, strategi-cally placed lawn furniture and an extension ladder—the “cute bambis” tore down the fence to my vegetable garden and what they didn’t eat they spat out and what they didn’t spit out

they stepped on.On our street (10th Street

North), two females gave birth, one to twins and the other to triplets. Now two becomes seven. Two more females gave birth to single babies. Now seven becomes 11. Do you see a pattern here?

Lest you think the residents of Jasper and Banff love their “cute bambis,” they don’t. Their park wardens don’t need to beg permission to cull the herd (cull

is not a euphemism for murder). They understand the devasta-tion created by overpopulation of deer and elk. These herds are healthy and well managed. You don’t see them running around with great cancerous growths on their faces and legs.

So, council, do what you were given the approval to do through referendum and cull the herd.

Eveyln Schofield, Grand Forks

Editor, The Gazette:How much would it cost

for the City of Grand Forks to test the accuracy of local indus-tries’ water meters?

Last year, the CAO told me it would be too expensive. But, as far back as five years ago, expert engineering companies have been recommending this to our city.

Why would our city be considering installing more water meters if it can’t afford to properly take care of the ones it already has?

As a delegation on July 20 at the Committees of the Whole meeting, I proposed that the first thing our city do towards water conservation is to follow the advice of the engineers and test the city’s existing water meters to make sure they are measuring all the water flow-ing through them.

Once the city can trust the measurements of its water me-ters, it can collect and examine

all the data, to get an idea of how much water may be leak-ing from the city’s main pipes.

The engineers suggested that if the estimated leakage is more than 15 per cent, that the most cost effective approach to water conservation would be to do leak detection and repair. They stated that after this is done, then the city could consider installing more water meters.

Engineers listed other water conservation approaches for consideration as well. One highly successful approach has been to hire summer students to go door to door to share ideas of how residents could conserve water. Another op-tion is to promote the installa-tion of water efficient toilets.

What to do with the old toilets? Bellingham, Wash. crushes their old toilets and makes city sidewalks out of them.

Since city council has unani-

mously agreed that they are not in support of the commodi-fication of city water, I have proposed that they not price water by volume.

Pricing water volumetrical-ly makes people think of water as a commodity, because that is the way we price other com-modities such as electricity and natural gas. Water is different in that it is essential to life. But, if more citizens begin to think of water as a commodity, could it lead to international water sales and us losing control of water and its price?

My proposal then, is that residential water meters be voluntary, and to be used for data collection. Voluntary wa-ter metering would also mean that residents would have a true affordable choice about how much RF radiation they are exposed to.

In June 2015, Parliament’s Standing Committee on Health

MARKETPLACE CALL THE GAZETTE AT 250-442-2191 TO ADVERTISE IN MARKETPLACE

The lawsuit specifies that Andrew Barrie’s son saw Ron and Jacqueline Legare get swept away. He escaped and managed to pull his mother to shore with him, and then watched as his father floated downstream rapidly.

Andrew Barrie was unable to free himself from the fast-moving waters. The family alleges he “expe-rienced grievous personal injuries, pain and suffer-ing” before he eventually drowned. His body was recovered seven days later approximately one kilo-metre downstream from Cascade Falls.

In the lawsuit, the family of Andrew Barrie state that tubing down the river is an activity that is pro-moted at local tourist centres and by the province. They also allege that no warning is given anywhere about the dangers of the falls and the approaching rapids. It also claims that the river was particularly high that year, and was therefore especially danger-ous.

The lawsuit names the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations; Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training; Destination BC; RDKB; City of Grand Forks; City of Christina Lake; Scott McNeill; Kathy MacNeill; Jacqueline MacNeill; Ja-mie MacNeill; the estate of Ron Legare; the estate of Jacqueline Legare; and five separate government entities.

The lawsuit says the Barrie family have experi-enced “extreme mental suffering” as a result of wit-nessing Andrew Barrie struggling to escape.

None of the allegations have been proven in court and the defendants have not filed a statement of defence.

The lawsuit was filed on July 23, 2014 with the Vancouver Law Courts and is classified as supreme civil.

John MacLean, chief administrative officer of the RKDB, said the regional district has no jurisdiction over the river and they have not put any warning signs up.

Despite that, the case has been referred to their insurers and they are working their way through the process.

As for the argument about whether anyone is responsible for advertising tubing as a fun activity and not warning enough of dangers, he said, “I’m all for going for a walk every day. If you take my ad-vice and go for a walk and fall down and hurt your ankle, is that my problem?

“We’ve referred this to our municipal insurers and they are preparing a response. While it’s a trag-edy we didn’t invite those folks into the water. We don’t control the water. We don’t have any jurisdic-tion.”

The City of Grand Forks also responded stating that they had also turned the case over to their liabil-ity insurers, Muncipal Insurance Association.

The scheduled hearing date for the case is June 20, 2016 in the Vancouver Law Courts.

agreed that children “should be protected from unnecessary exposure to wireless technology.” The committee recommended an “awareness campaign... to ensure that Canadian families and children are reducing risks related to radio-frequency exposure.”

My hope is that Grand Forks will follow the

advice of engineers by first testing its industry meters, evaluating leak detection and repair, and then partnering with residents in real time water conservation with door to door education and a toilet replacement program.

I’d like us to consider how we can make water conservation easier and more affordable for all.

An experience where incredible music and stunning nature collide—that’s the vision of the Ponderosa Arts and Music Festival and it’s com-ing soon to Rock Creek.

The creators and organizers of the Ponderosa festival are friends Kris Hargrave and Kia Zahra-bi. The two live in Vancouver, but spent most of their years growing up in the South Okanagan. The idea of putting on the festival came to them last summer after a camping party at Zahrabi fa-ther’s farm in Oliver.

“Kris and I started talking about the festival around this time because we were looking at po-tentially needing a larger site to host the party,” Zahrabi said. “Kris grew up on a farm in Brides-ville and he had suggested it as a potential loca-tion for hosting the party.”

The pair secured the Rock Creek Fairgrounds and began calling agents to start booking a line-up of independent musicians and bands from a

wide variety of genres.“We both have a love for music and also

had a desire to bring more friends out to expe-rience this beautiful part of B.C. We both also have friends in Vancouver that are in bands and thought it would be a sweet idea to get them in-volved,” Zahrabi said.

Ponderosa is a full-on arts and music festival, he added, but their focus has always been on maintaining an intimate and personal environ-ment. “We promote nothing but good vibes.”

The Rock Creek Fairgrounds is a great venue for such a festival, held this year from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 21 - 23.

The Riverside Campground is “a little slice of paradise” that can be yours for only $25 extra per camper (sorry, no hook-ups available). Wash-room facilities at the campgrounds include fl ush toilets, inks and coin-operated hot showers. There are drinking water taps spread throughout the campgrounds and on the fairgrounds site. Pets are not permitted on the festival grounds or in

the campsites at any times. This year, the festival organizers have added

the Parkway Campground. This campground is included with every ticket purchase–the area is still connected to the festival site, but is lacking a little shade.

(Campfires are banned in all areas by order of the BC Wildfire Service, but barbecues and camp stoves are allowed.)

Near enough to both campgrounds and the festival grounds is the Kettle River. Enjoy a re-freshing dip; or, take your chair and relax at shore’s edge.

This year’s line-up of entertainment includes B.C.-bred acts Mounties, Fake Shark Real Zom-bie, High Ends, the Harpoonist & the Axe Mur-der, Bear Mountain, Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party and the Gay Nineties.

The lineup also in-cludes an array of other indie artists, DJs and electronic acts like Fort Knox Five, SAVVIE, Pumpkin, Honey Beard, Rhoneil, cAthedrAls, Jaguar, Cam Penner, Ti-ger Moon, El Garzita, Kandle & The Krooks, Harold Nix, Giraffe Af-termath, Lio and Cat-low.

It has been such an amazing process full of highs, lows, sacrifices and successes, Hargrave added. “We are super passionate about Pon-

derosa and all the positive feedback we have re-ceived really motivates us to push on. Our goal is for Ponderosa to grow into a summer event that is eagerly anticipated year after year. “

“I’d also like to add that we love Rock Creek and the people of Rock Creek,” Zahrabi said. “We were lucky enough to connect with them and to be welcomed back to host our third annual event at the fairgrounds.”

For tickets and further information, visit the festival’s website at ponderosafestival.com.

Please note that although Ponderosa Festival is an all ages event it is catered towards a more mature audience. All attendees under the age of 19 must be accompanied by an adult and will be required to wear a separate color wristband for identification.

Calendar contest a fun fundraiser

Traditional music fans can’t wait for this year’s Princeton Traditional Music Festival, now in its eighth year.

“Every year brings something different,” said Jon Bartlett, orga-nizer of the three-day free festival. “Because we are a free festival, only performers who love the music and a chance to play come and join us.”

Dozens of musicians, excelling in shanties, Canadian logging, fishing and mining songs, and songs from England, Ireland and Scotland, fill the town for the entire weekend.

The festival takes place in down-town Princeton from Friday to Sun-

day, Aug. 14 - 16. Friday night sees a street dance, starting at 6.30 p.m. The dances are traditional too: some from Scotland and England, and some from north America, with mu-sic from a ceili band, No partners are necessary, and all taught on the spot.

On Saturday and Sunday, two outdoor stages (under tents and with chairs) and one indoor stage in the local library, will feature songs and tunes from over 100 perform-ers, many from the interior.

This year, we are very pleased to welcome back Vazzy from Grand Forks. Vazzy play a remarkable range of instruments, with songs and tunes from the traditions of Acadia, including many from their latest CD, En passant/By the Way.

The festival is free because all the per-formers, the volun-teers and the organiz-ers, give their services for free. Grants from the provincial and lo-cal governments cover the necessary costs of tents, publicity, meals for the performers and the like. “This is what traditional music is all about,” Bartlett said. “It’s skilled, varied, community-based and free.”

For information, vis-it the website at princ-etontraditional.org.

Enter our community calendar photo contest! However, please note that there are a few changes to how to enter, from the contest’s first announcement.

The peer mentors of Boundary Family and Individual Services Society (BFISS) are putting together a calendar of cute

and fun pictures of Boundary children/babies with animals as a fundraiser for the Baby’s Best Chance, Parents of Young Children and Breastfeeding Cafe programs at the BFISS (boundaryfam-ily.org/).

These non-profit programs provide an essential outlet for hundreds of ba-bies, children, mothers and families in the Boundary and are an integral part of our community.

We are looking for adorable shots of your little ones with any animal under the sun. If it makes you laugh or say “aww-www”—enter it in the contest. We want to see it!

The calendar will be out by early November, and will be available for purchase through-out the Boundary area, in time for Christmas gift giving! The

winning photos will be showcased in a large photo each month and runners up will featured throughout the calendar in smaller photos.

Please include with your photo sub-mission your name, phone number, e-mail address, your child’s/children’s name, pets name (if it’s a pet) and a little fun quote or saying (optional).

Submission deadline is Sept. 30 and can be posted on Facebook at face-book.com/events/496764307165836/, e-mailed to [email protected], or mailed to Box 562, Christina Lake, B.C., V0H 1E0.

A previous mention of submissions being by donations has been retracted—just send in your photos as is.

We can’t wait to see all of the amaz-ing photos, and are really looking for-ward to showcasing how beautiful our little ones in the Boundary are!

Drinking and boating continues to be a factor in approximately 40 per cent of boating-related fatalities. An IPSOS-REID study commissioned by the Canadian Safe Boating Council and conducted in 2014 cited some disturbing perceptions amongst boaters who drink and boat at least occasionally. These included:

1. It’s not dangerous to drink and boat.2. Drinking while boating is just part of the overall

relaxing experience.3. The chances of getting caught are extremely

remote. With respect to the chances of getting caught drink-

ing and boating being extremely remote, the probabili-ties in 2015 have increased significantly based on two initiatives that are in full swing this season.

The first is called “Operation Dry Water” which was initiated by the Canadian Safe Boating Council in 2013 and has progressively gained momentum to the point where it should be in full swing across Canada this upcoming season.

It runs during the August long weekend and in-volves police agencies making increased vessel checks to both educate boaters on the dangers of drinking and boating and to enforce their local laws relating to the practice.

The second is called “Help Us Catch Impaired Boat-ers – Dial 911. It was introduced in 2014 across most of Canada, again by the Canadian Safe Boating Council, and eagerly received by police and 911 agencies alike. The intent of the initiative is to both act as a preventa-tive influence and to empower everyone on the water to report instances of suspected impaired boating.

Make this season one in which you’ll decide to leave your beer on the pier for when you return.

Pool closes soon for maintenance
