A message from our
Grand Knight
I hope everyone is excited about starting a new year
in the Knights of Columbus. Let’s start the new year
with the expectation of attaining Star Council this
year. If we are to achieve this high honor, then we all
have to chip in and help. We have a great slate of
officers, committee chairmen, and Knights who have
signed up for extra duty. Please consider helping out
on a committee or a special activity like the Tootsie
Roll Drive, Lenten Breakfasts, and the Catholic
College Night.
John Ceci has graciously agreed to help build up a
Council Committee. He needs new people to join his
committee and help build new sub-committees in
membership, retention, and a first degree team. If
you need more information, please email me or send
me a note at the P.O. Box. I have listed all the
officers, chairmen, and key activities.
Thank you all for your support last year.
Vivat Jesus!
SK Bob Flynn GK
July Family of the Month Ralph and Carol LeRoy
Ralph and Carol have been very active in supporting
our Tootsie Roll Drive and standing out in the cold
collecting donations for the Mentally Impaired. Ralph
has stepped up to the challenge of developing a
newsletter mailer to go out to Fellow Knights that do
not have e-Mail capabilities. His nickname is the
Wizard and from the looks of the mailer he earns the
name tenfold.
June Knight of the Month - Chuck Totten
Chuck is instrumental on making our Lenten
Breakfast a huge success this past year. He has been
chief cook at the breakfasts and has received loads of
compliments on the menu from parishioners.

THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!
Brothers, one of our primary calls is to pray together with our families and each other. We can show our unity, fraternity, faith and brotherhood by joining together in prayer at our Corporate Communions. Our last Corporate Communion was at 9:30 mass on Sunday, June 14th.

2015 Texas Hold'em
(formerly "Shark Club")
Charitable Games for 2015 will be held at 59 West,
786 W. Highland, Highland, MI 48357 Many charity
fundraising organizations had to close their
efforts because they couldn't find interested
suppliers or locations to host the events so we
are fortunate to be able to continue this.
Manpower is even more challenging now that we
are required by the State to provide 3 staff per
event instead of 2. For this reason we would
encourage those that were somewhat afraid of
performing the skills before to reconsider us out
now. We could use you in less demanding role
and give you the opportunity to learn the skills at
a much slower pace. Please contact Paul Williams
at 248-278-6600 if you have any questions.
Gaming nights will be August 12-15, September 2-
5, November 25-27-28 and December 9-12.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain.[4][5] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the
Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[6]
Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[7]
Historians have long disputed whether Congress actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed.[8][9][10][11][12]
In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.
