FERPA LAW: There are substantial federal and state protections for the privacy
of students’ educational records, including Family Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA). Student discipline is an example of confidential information under
the Student Right to Privacy Act and shouldn’t be disclosed to anyone outside of
staff, often times, the student’s classroom teacher need not be informed. FERPA
also permits school districts to identify certain information that may be publicly
released with permission of the parent or eligible student. Directory information
is defined as the student’s name, photograph, dates of attendance, diplomas
and awards received, participation in officially recognized activities and sports,
weight and height of members of athletic teams, and the most recent previous
school attended. Directory information is NOT released for commercial or other
purposes not related to school business. If a parent/guardian or eligible student
chooses NOT to have directory information publicly released, written
notification MUST be presented to the District via the FERPA agreement. Thank
you for your cooperation in the matter.
VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY- November
Each school hosts an assembly in November to honor all veterans and
current military members in recognition of their service to our country.
The district would like to invite all veterans or current military members
to attend the Veteran’s Day assemblies on Wednesday, November 8 and
Thursday, November 9. Check with your local school to find out
dates/times.
NO SCHOOL on November 10, 2017 in
honor of our Veterans.
October is Disability
History and Awareness Month National Disability History and Awareness month was designated to
foster greater awareness, knowledge, and understanding of disabilities,
and to promote full participation of people with disabilities into school
and community activities. We have conducted several activities in our
schools this month. We hope to increase respect and promote
acceptance and inclusion. Understanding disabilities, rather than
stereotypes, and focusing on individual strengths and capacities, will
encourage students to recognize the whole person rather than an
individual’s disability.
Mark Your Calendars
High School Food, Donations and Gift Drive

drop off food at any school or the district
office.
Crossroads High School will be hosting a

REMINDERS **Attendance at sporting events: any staff member that gets in free to attend a sporting event
(by wearing your ID badge) is responsible for the supervision of students and spectators.
SPECIAL REQUEST:
The Crossroads Music Department is in need
of keyboards and any other instruments that
you may be willing to donate!! If you have an
instrument laying around that isn’t being used
anymore, it will get great use in the Crossroads
Music Department. Please contact Erin
Howard at [email protected] or
Crossroads for more information.
Attendance Matters!! Every absence, excused or
unexcused, is a learning
opportunity lost and can have
significant impacts on a student’s
success in school and life. A
student who misses 10% or more
of their school days, which
amounts to 18 or more days in a
school year, for any reason is
considered chronically absent.
Chronically absent students are
more likely to fall behind in
reading and math and less likely
to graduate from high school.
The Granite Falls School District
is participating in Attendance
Awareness: Attend Today,
Achieve Tomorrow put on by
OSPI. A short video has been
supplied to show the effects of
absenteeism on a student’s
success.

tance-of-school-attendance/
Please join us in sharing the
importance of great attendance
with our students!
Remember to Vote!
Registering to vote has never been easier. The
state has simple online voter registration
process that only takes a couple minutes. It’s
not too late to vote in the November General
Election. All registered voters should have
already received their ballots in the mail.
Please contact the elections department at
425-388-3444 with questions.
