Introduction The Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to promote, develop and facilitate parks and recreation opportunities throughout the province. We are recognized as the provincial umbrella organization representing parks and recreation in Saskatchewan and manage the Recreation Section of the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. SPRA provides a provincial voice allowing its members to promote and facilitate parks, recreation and leisure opportunities throughout Saskatchewan. SPRA is committed to representing not only its members but also the citizens of the province as a whole. Looking for Funding? We can help! Grant Writing Tips

Do Your Homework Spend time researching the funding organization to identify if your initiative or program aligns with their objectives. Read the grant guidelines to determine if the opportunity is a good fit. If you have any questions, contact the organization directly. In the end, you will be saving both your time and theirs.

Less is Sometimes More Be clear and concise as you craft your proposal or grant application. Padding your application with extra text or unnecessary supplements such as flyers, videos or books may only distract funders from your ask. Big or Small, Apply for Them All Don’t limit your search to the “big ticket” grants – The best ‘fit’ and least competition for dollars may be through a local community foundation. Be Specific Funders want to know why your program/initiative is a good investment. Outline exactly what they are going to get for their money; starting with a strong, credible description of the project, with its need and outcomes clearly identified. Include a Detailed Budget Outline how you intend on utilizing the money; make a list of everything you said you were going to do that has financial implications, then assign a dollar value to each item. Create an Evaluation Plan What tools will you use to collect data or information that shows whether your project has met its objectives? Surveys, pre or post questionnaires, focus groups, testimonials and videos are only some of the ways you can measure your impact. Follow the Application Guidelines Use the guidelines as an outline and a checklist to ensure your application includes all of the required information.

Aboriginal Community Sport Grant Program The purpose of the Aboriginal Community Sport Grant Program (ACSGP) is to provide greater sport participation and development opportunities for Aboriginal youth in Saskatchewan, especially youth living in urban, rural, on-reserve, isolated and northern communities. www.sasksport.sk.ca Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan The Organizational Capacity (OC) program provides core-like funding to Friendship Centres so they can have a stable base from which to deliver programs and services that increase urban Aboriginal participation in the economy. Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation The Dreamcatcher Charitable Foundation will lead the way to enhance First Nations communities and people through contributions that will be of benefit socially, culturally, healthfully and economically in a holistic manner. Nike N7 Fund The N7 Fund is committed to creating early positive experiences in sport and physical activity for Native American and Aboriginal youth in North America. Organizations that support Native American and Aboriginal communities through sport and physical activity programming for youth can apply. www.niken7.com

Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) Program The Promoting Life-skills in Aboriginal Youth (PLAY) Program partners with more than 85 First Nations communities and urban Aboriginal organizations across Canada to deliver safe, fun and educational programming for Aboriginal children and youth. Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program Organizations that are eligible to receive funding include: municipal governments (city, town, village, organized hamlet or rural municipality), Indian band councils or northern settlements. The Amiskusees: Semaganis Worme Family Foundation The Amiskusees: Semaganis Worme Family Foundation was established with the goal of bettering First Nations communities through assisting our women and youth. Canada Cultural Spaces Fund The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (CCSF) supports the improvement of physical conditions for arts, heritage, culture and creative innovation. Canadian Council for the Arts The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada’s national public arts funder. They champion and invest in artistic excellence so that Canadians may enjoy and participate in a rich cultural life. Community Support, Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Initiatives Program This program used to be called the Inter-Action: Multiculturalism Grants and Contribution Funding program and it supported the socio-economic integration of individuals and communities and helped them contribute to building an integrated, socially-cohesive society. Creative Kids Creative Kids is a program that reduces financial and social barriers for Saskatchewan children wishing to explore art and culture.
