Appearance
• Small winged insect with large back legs • Comes in many colors like brown and green
Habitat
• Grasshoppers live EVERYWHERE !
• Grasshoppers are found on all continents except Antarctica
• They prefer dry open habitats with lots of grass and other low plants
Life cycle
• Grasshoppers go from an egg to nymph and finally an adult.
• It takes about 9 weeks for a grasshopper to become an adult
Diet and digestion• Grasshoppers are
herbivores. They eat a range of grasses, leaves and cereal crops.
• A grasshopper’s digestive system include a foregut and a hindgut. The foregut is the mouth area and the hindgut is the anal region.
Predators
• Some predators of the grasshopper are birds, blister beetles, squash bugs and cucumber beetles.
• Humans also eat grasshoppers in many places around the world.
