The population of Britain is over 58 million. Great Britain
and Northern Ireland are separated by the Irish Sea. The north-west and west of
Great Britain is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean. In the east the country is washed by the North Sea. In the south it is
separated from France by the English Channel. In England
there are many rivers but they are not deep. The longest river is the Severn and the
deepest Thames.

The most famous place of England is Stratford-upon-Avon. It is a small town in
the centre of England. The town was founded about 800 years ago. Stratford-
upon-Avon has become famous as the birth place of William Shakespeare. He died there on his birthday in 1616 and was buried in the church of Stratford-upon-Avon. Stratford-upon-Avon also
attracts people from all over the world by its Royal Shakespeare Theatre –
“Globe Theater”. In this theatre only Shakespeare's plays are performed.
Westminster Abbey is a historical building and a
holy place. It was founded in 1050 as a monastery. Then it
was rebuilt. Almost every English king has been crowned in this
place and buried in the church since 1308.
Westminster CathedralIt was built between
1895 and 1903.This is the seat of the Cardinal Archbishop and the leading Roman Catholic Church in England. Its bell tower is 84 metres high.
Parliament House is known around the world
as a business card in London. This is the
famous Big Ben with antique clock and a huge
bell.

Located across the street of Pall Mall and Green Park to the white marble with gilded monument to Queen Victoria. When the king is in the palace, on the roof of the palace flies the Royal Standard. Standard - a special kind of banner flag.
