WHAT DO YOU THINK?

• Historic tribute should be tasteful

• Play space for children (splash pad)

• Marigolds

• Beauty of plazas is the invitation for activity (social interaction is attractive)

• Programming drives design

• Public engagement from native groups, new immigrants to Atlantic Canada (different perspectives)

• Consider effects of wind (also effects new development of coast guard site will have on this) as well as other weather impacts

• Creating comfortable microclimates

• Volleyball organization has data on impacts of weather

• Interactive opportunities – get involved in the experience, not just observing

Page 40: Great outdoor spaces - Talkthewalk.ca

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

• Needs to cater more to children in future design (family oriented)

• Amphitheatre (well designed/ planned)

• Multi-functional

• Look to future, don’t only consider past

• multiculturalism

• Define the direction we want to see the city move towards

• Bridge the past and future

• Ensure variety of functions is relative to size of space

• Look at what uses have been most successful in this space

• Remove the street (keep it pedestrian only)

• Consider parking (for evening events especially)

Page 41: Great outdoor spaces - Talkthewalk.ca

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

• Design towards the uses that draw people to the space (vs aesthetic design)- consider surrounding businesses + institutions

• A confluence/ space of connection

• Modern art museum (outdoor museum?)

• What cant be found elsewhere in the city

• Consider future development opportunities/ demands of space

• Moveable furnishings do work where they have been used- appreciate the opportunity to customize a comfortable gathering space

• Consider being LEED compliant

• Accessibility

• Include heritage (Marco Polo)
