• He was born on the 18th July 1918• Nelson Mandela was only 9 when his

father died• Nelson Mandela grew up in a village

in south Africa called Qunu

His life in prison• He went to prison in 1962• Nelson Mandela was in prison for 27

years for protesting for equal rights• While in prison he was made to work

breaking lime stone with big heavy axes
