Foreword

The Academy Games has been developed by the members of the Regional Academies of Sport Inc. as an exciting initiative that enables all our athletes to come together - not only to compete against other talented athletes in their chosen fields - but to celebrate sport and the skills and commitment of all our talented athletes. Netball is one of the strongest of all Academy Sports, with 11 Academy squads represented, as well as the Netball NSW Sydney Netball Academy and ACT Netball. The support that RASi has received from our major community partner Your local club, and the NSW Government through the Office of Sport continues to be strong and significant, and on behalf of all Academies, I wish to extend my thanks to all our supporters and volunteer workers who have facilitated this fabulous event.

The Your Local Club Academy Games represents a gathering of the State’s Regional Academies of Sport to celebrate the skill and development of their talented athletes. Although the Games are not intended to recognise or acclaim the “best” Academy or team, the individual performances of the athletes can be recognised — through the naming of a Merit Team as a collection of outstanding athletes from the competition. The Your Local Club Academy Merit Team will be selected through a voting system covering each game and announced following the conclusion of the tournament.

Venue The 1st Division and 2nd Division competitions will be conducted together at the Maitland Federation Centre, Bent Street, Maitland. The indoor stadium has four courts and these will be used congruently throughout the two days of competition. Arrangements have been made to enable teams to conduct pre-game warm ups across the road at the Maitland All Saints College grounds — this area IS NOT to be used as a “camp base” for Academies - our access has only been granted to enable warm ups on the fields.
