Winter Weather Task Force
February 3, 2014
Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner was named to the Winter Weather Warning and
Preparedness Task Force. Created by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, the group will
provide advice and immediate solutions on how to respond to weather emergencies. In
February, the Atlanta Police Department led safety response during Winter Storm Pax
and provided 96 hours of emergency service.

Most Wanted suspect February 5, 2014
Atlanta Police arrested one of the citys most dangerous wanted suspects. Johnathan
Kirkland is suspected of murdering a man outside of the Dj Vu Club in southeast
Atlanta in December. He is also suspected of organizing several ATM heist in the area.
Kirkland has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and unlawful
possession of gun.

Atlanta Police partner with CAP
to re-launch Clean Car Campaign
February 5, 2014
The Atlanta Police Department partnered with Central Atlanta
Progress (CAP) and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District
to re-launch the Clean Car campaign by challenging the
business community to help reduce the number of thefts from
vehicles by 100. The 2014 Clean Car challenge encourages
business owners, employees, citizens and visitors to keep a
clean car and remove all valuables such as purses, cell phones, GPS navigation systems, laptops and tablet computers
from unattended vehicles.

Atlanta Police recognized for Southern
hospitality, Winter Storm efforts praised
February 9, 2014
The Atlanta Police Department was recognized by the International Poultry Expo for
helping 24,000 attendees, most of who were from out of town, safely attend the annual
convention during Winter Storm Leon. Atlanta experienced two winter storms just weeks
apart. During Winter Storm Pax, Atlanta Police officers worked 12 hour shifts and slept at
workstations. Additionally, specialized units transported homeless citizens and residents
without power to warming centers and shelters. Officers also provided round-the-clock
security at shelters and delivered meals all while continuing to protect the city.

Atlanta Police host two job fairs in
February, continues boosting police force
February 17, 2014
The Atlanta Police Department continues to boost its police force. This month two job
fairs were held and recruit class 234 was officially sworn in as officers. The Atlanta
Police Department is the largest force in Georgia with more than 2,000 officers.

Atlanta Police catch Snow Track burglary suspect
February 15, 2014
Atlanta Police caught a suspect by following his foot tracks in the snow. After an alarm
went off at a local business, Atlanta Police Officers arrived to find footprints and tire
tracks leading away from the business, which was closed. The officers followed the
tracks and found the suspect with a gas generator with wheels that matched the snow
tracks, plus wet shoes that matched the snowy footprints. Kenneth Ray Evans was
arrested and charged with burglary.

Suspect gets 50 years for shooting
Atlanta Police Officer
February 20, 2014
Cameron Maddox was convicted and sentenced to 50 years -- 30 behind bars and 20
on probation. Maddox used a stolen .40 caliber semiautomatic handgun to shoot at a
car with four people inside on Moreland Avenue in the Little Five Points neighborhood
on March 22, 2012. APD Officer Dexter Toomer was also shot in the leg and later
recovered from the incident. Maddox pleaded guilty to attempted murder and
aggravated assault.

AJC News Story 12K cameras to give Atlanta police broader window to city
The Atlanta Police Departments crime fighting efforts were recently recognized by the United States Department of Homeland Security. Representatives toured the Video
Integration Center and complimented the department on being a leading department in
the area of video technology. More than 2,700 cameras help monitor public activity with
plans to quadruple that number by the end of 2015.

with International visitors

The Atlanta Police Department met with foreign leaders from the U.S. Department of
States International Visitor Leadership Program. Six visitors from Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka met with the department to learn more about Atlantas arrest
procedures. APD shared information on various procedures from arrest to
arraignment. The Atlanta Police Department regularly partners with the U.S.
Department of States International Visitor Leadership Program to help build understanding and cooperation between our nation and other countries.
This event wasnt open to the media, however, we included it in this presentation because of the
excellent opportunity it presented for the Atlanta Police Department.
