New CampusDirector Platform College Panhellenic Council had a successful spring recruitment. To aid in the recruitment process, we upgraded to a new CampusDirector platform and opted to add the option for the IOS PNM Companion App to speed the selection process for the Potential New Members. Chapters and new members for all rounds of recruitment immediately adopted the new technology. The faster technology allowed for smoother PNM selections and voting by chapters, a shortened recruitment process, and provided 121 bids to women participating in formal recruitment. Currently 80% of campuses in the country use the CampusDirector software to manage their recruitment process. Alternative Total Pilot College Panhellenic Council (CPC) is a participant in a National Panhellenic Conference study. The Alternate Total Pilot program provides an alternate approved method for resetting chapter total. The CPC has been assign a Total Consultant to review and establish a plan/methodology for setting total per rubric and review of other related data. The College Panhellenic president will use this guidance method to set total prior to the start of recruitment. The process involves communication between Total Consultants, Area Director, Campus- based Executive Board, RFM Specialists and NPC Delegates with respect to bid matching process for primary recruitment. Recommendations and the methodology will be discussed as the data is reviewed. Decision of new chapter total is made by the campus team and total consultant within 72 hours of the completion of primary recruitment. Panhellenic total is communicated to CPC and the RFM specialist by the fraternity/sorority advisor. The area advisor communicates the new total to the NPC delegates with chapters on the campus. Total will remain in place until the next primary recruitment period unless requested to have it reviewed for a subsequent academic term by the total consultant. If reviewed for an additional academic term, the above process will be followed. NPC wants to give our campus and many other campuses the opportunity to grow and develop in a mutually acceptable way which benefits chapters which participate in recruitment. Anti-Hate Speech New York University Law School professor, Nadine Strossen, gave a talk, “Regulating Racist Speech on Campus: A Modest Proposal?” on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in Carver Hall’s Gross Auditorium hosted by the Office of Greek Affairs. The lecture focused on racial discrimination and free speech published in the Duke Law Journal. Strossen, a former president of the American Civil Liberties Union, has written and taught areas specializing in constitutional law and civil liberties. This May, her latest book, HATE: Why We Should Resist It With Free Speech, Not Censorship, will be published by the Oxford University Press. This event was attended by over 500 students and received support from the Department of Equity and Accommodations and the American Democracy Project.

Anti-Hazing Hero Sigma Sigma Sigma and the Office of Greek Affairs sponsored an Anti-Hazing presentation by Lianne Kowiak. Ms. Kowiak presented as a mother, and wife, whose son, Harrison Kowiak, lost his life as a result of fraternity hazing during his sophomore year in college at the age of 19. Her mission is to raise awareness and education Kowiak is a recipient of the Hank Nuwer

Anti-Hazing Hero Award and has appeared on CNN, BBC, Huffington Post Live, Fusion television network, and the Security Brief to spotlight the dangers associated with hazing.

NGLA Scholarship

The College Panhellenic Council was awarded a scholarship for the Northeast Greek Leadership Conference 2018 held Pittsburgh, PA. Caitlyn Albright, Sara Balliet, Maddie Fiala and Alyssa Shamany attended this three-day intensive leadership training. The days were filled with keynotes on healthy masculinity, supportive management, conversations on sexual assault and self-care. Self-selected sessions by attendees included risk management training, LGBTQA membership, motivation of members, and utilizing campus resources.

Miracle Walk

Delta Epsilon Beta Sorority held a Miracle for Maverick 5k Walk on Saturday, February 15. Proceeds from the walk went to the Foundation for Angleman

Syndrome Therapeutics. Angelman syndrome is a genetic disorder that causes developmental disabilities and neurological problems, such as difficulty speaking, balancing and walking, and, in some cases, seizures.

On the Capital Steps Nicole Persa, member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Zeta chapter has been selected to attend a multi-day training and lobbying event in Washington DC. Nicole will be representing Tri-Sigma’s national organization in addition to other undergraduate members of fraternity and sorority chapters from around the country. Nicole will advocate for the ability to maintain the operation for single-sex organizations, protect students’ right to freedom of association, the REACH Act (Anti-Hazing Legislation), due process protections within the campus disciplinary system, and Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (CHIA).

Suicide Awareness and Prevention

The Suicide Awareness and Prevention 5k organized by Kappa Sigma on Sunday, February 18 to honor the loss Scott G. Findlay. Over 100 participants walked and raised money for a suicide prevention fund and the Nimrod Game and Fish hunting lands. The chapter decided the walk not only to support their fraternity brother and his family but also to expand awareness of suicide. If you would like to make a donation please contact Kevin P. New Fraternity Chartered Alpha Sigma Phi Chartering took place on February 2, 2018, completing the yearlong expansion efforts. Fifty one new brothers participated in initiation and received the new charter in front of family and friends. The brothers have plans for continued service and philanthropic activities, brotherhood and leadership development and the formation of a Chapter Council comprised of a Grand Chapter Advisor, Parent/Family Relations Advisor, and a Faculty Advisor.

The Greek Alumni Advisory Committee is tentatively planning to meet on campus April 6, 2018. Members are Greg Bowden, Dave Decoteau, Sharon Fisher, Tiffany Smith, Laura Specht, Heather Trone, Chris Ward and Karen Weingarten who serves as chairperson. Chapter and Alumni advisors will also be invited to participate on April 6.

The new Associate Director of Student Union and Campus Life position that will be responsible for the implementation of the recommendations from the Greek Review and oversight of Greek Affairs operations has been posted.

TOILETRY ITEMS NEEDED Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Inc. is collecting new, unused toiletry products for foster children in our area. To make a donation, you may bring items to the Office of Greek Affairs until March 9th.
