Dear Greek Week Chapter Representatives,
Welcome to Greek Week! We would like to wish each and every team the best of luck in this
year’s Greek Week events. We hope this booklet provides you with all of the resources you need.
If you have any questions about the rules, events, or Greek Week in general please do not
hesitate to contact one of the chairs or any member of the Greek Week committee. We are
always available to help!
We would like to send our most sincere gratitude to our wonderful committee and fantastic
advisors! Without them, Greek Week would not be possible. Greek Week 2015 has been in
progress for over a year and the committee has worked very hard to ensure that this is the best
week possible for the Greek community. We could not have done this without our committee.
Additionally, we would like to thank Nick, Dani, Brian, and Caitlyn for always going the extra
mile to provide support to us. We have been spending quite a few hours together over the last
year and they are always willing to give us extra help when we ask. We can only hope that
participating in Greek Week will be as unforgettable for each team as planning it has been for us!
Although we are sure that all the teams are very excited to begin a week filled with competition
and team pride, let’s not forget why we all do this each and every year: to have fun, make
memories, and to celebrate as an entire Greek community what it really means to be Greek as
Western Illinois University. Greek Week is supposed to be fun and enjoyable, not a chore. There
is nothing wrong with some good, healthy competition, but just remember we are all Greek, so
be respectful of all teams.
With that being said, the committee is sure that your hard work and effort will ultimately pay off
in the end. Have a great week and good luck!

Behavioral Contract Understanding Statement
The Greek Week Committee in conjunction with the Office of Student Activities defines a
representative of your organization as one who is participating in a Greek Week Event, one who
is competing in a Greek Week event, or one who is attending a Greek Week event in any
capacity (i.e. as a committee member, spectator, etc.)
The Greek Week Committee in conjunction with the Office of Student Activities defines
intoxication as being under the influence of any drug (which includes, but is not limited to
alcohol). An intoxicated person is considered any person who has the slightest amount of a
drug (alcohol included) introduced into their body since they woke up that morning.
The Greek Week Committee in conjunction with the Office of Student Activities defines fighting
as any actual or attempted verbal or physical abuse or behavior between one or more
representatives of your organization to one or more representatives of another organization.
I understand why intoxicated or fighting members of the Western Illinois University community
can be harmful, embarrassing, and against the Mission Statement of the University. I will not
show up to any Greek Week event as a participant, competitor, and spectator or otherwise, while
intoxicated or with the intent to fight, as defined above.
I also understand that it will be up to the Greek Week Committee and the Office of Student
Activities or one of its representatives, to determine the intoxication of an organization’s
representative or the level of fighting. I understand the repercussions for violations of this
policy are up to the discretion of the Office of Student Activities and the Greek Week
Committee, keeping in mind that disqualification from an event or from the Overall Competition
is possible.
The Greek Week Committee in conjunction with the Office of Student Activities out of concern
for me, in the best interest of the Western Illinois University community’s well-being, and in an
effort to make the Greek Week competition enjoyable for all participants requires my compliance
with this policy. Each participant from an organization is required to sign below.

Greek Week 2015 Points System
Each and every event is worth the same amount of points.
Event Points & Categories: 1. First place: 100 points
2. Second place: 75 points
3. Third place: 50 points
Points are split into four categories: competition, fundraising, spirit and theme. These four
categories have been created to provide opportunities for teams to show their strengths during
Greek Week. There will be a first, second, and third overall winner for Greek Week, along with
one winner per category.
Team T-Shirt Points: Members can purchase a Greek Week t-shirt. The shirts will be of a
similar design but have your team chapters listed on them. One bonus point will be awarded per
team member wearing the designated Greek Week shirt each day. Each day, points will be
awarded to the teams with the highest percentage of members wearing the Greek Week t-shirt. T-
shirt points will count towards the spirit category. If a member is wearing the Greek Week t-
shirt, the team will receive the maximum points available for that day/event. Each day there will
be first, second and third place points awarded.
Judging: The following events will have non-Greek related judges or referees: Variety Show,
Can Superstars, Chalk Murals, Volleyball, and Kickball. All other events will be judged by each
events co-chairs’ along with Greek Week Co-Chairs. All judging will be un-biased. Please go to
Nick Katz, Associate Director for Student Activities, with any questions or concerns with
judging matters. Nick’s contact information is in this booklet on the contact sheet under
Advisors.
Ties: In case of a tie, both teams will receive the same amount of points, and the next place will
be dropped. This will be the protocol:
1. First place tie: both teams that received first place will each receive the 100 points.
Second place score would then be dropped and the third highest scoring team will take
the third place points. Participation points will still be included.
2. Second place tie: first place will still receive 100 points. Both teams that received second
place will each receive the 75 points. Third place will be dropped. Participating points
will still be included.
3. Third place tie: First place will still receive the 100 points. Second place will still receive
75 points. Both teams that received third place will each receive 50 points. Participating
points will still be included (No points will be dropped)

Variety Show
Tuesday, April 7th
, 2015
Time: 6 PM, Western Hall
Points Available: 100 Competition
Co-Chairs: Ashley Rettger, Kelli Murphy, Levi Campbell
Variety Show is an opportunity for teams to showcase their Superstars. In this competition,
each team performs an act of originality that highlights and incorporates their team’s
Greek Week theme.
DETAILS:
1. Each team must perform one act. This act should consist of no more than thirty (30)
people. Each act will be judged under the same criteria regardless of the number of
participants. We encourage everyone to incorporate both individual and group activities
into the team’s single act.
2. Each act can be up to eight minutes long and no shorter than 6 minutes long. Points will
be deducted if an act exceeds or does not meet the time limit.
3. Your performances should creatively incorporate your team’s theme in some way.
4. Acts that contain degrading or offensive material will result in an immediate
disqualification from the event.
5. Acts must contain no tumbling.
6. Lifts are allowed, but are not required. If a tea has a lift, a spotter must be present. There
must be two spotters per lift, per person. A lift is defined as one person’s feet leaving the
ground.
7. No flips of any kind are allowed. No one can be thrown (i.e., no basket tosses, etc.). A
flip is defined as a person’s feet going above his or her own head.
8. Any music in the routine must be from YOUR SUPERSTAR’S career. For example, if
Beyoncé is your superstar, than you cannot feature music from her albums when she was
a member of Destiny’s Child. Likewise, a team who has Destiny’s Child, could not use
music from Beyoncé’s solo career. If, for example, your artist has a song that features
another artist, that is acceptable. But you may not use songs that your star features in. An
example would be if the song is Katy Perry ft. Snoop Dogg, you could use that song. But
if the song is Snoop Dogg featuring Katy Perry, you cannot use that. Your artist must be
the main performer.
9. To avoid any confusion or inappropriate music content, all teams must provide a copy of
their music on a CD to be approved by the Variety Show Co-Chairs on or before March
5th
at 8pm. (You may bring it to the liaison meeting and turn it in to the Greek Week Co-
Chairs.)
10. Your act MUST include at least two talents (dancing during the performance does not
count, but a type of dance like tap is acceptable). Points will be awarded for having
TWO talents. Any more incorporated is up to the discretion of the teams.
11. Your act MUST feature props and they MUST be used under these guidelines:
a. ONE backdrop for the performance that does not exceed a queen size sheet.
One Week, One Goal | 21
b. ONE stationary stage prop that does not exceed 5x5x5 feet (for example, a large
cardboard box made to look like a city tower).
c. ONE prop that enters and then exits the stage (for example, a cardboard limo that
your super star “arrives in” on stage, gets out of and then “drives away” off
stage).
d. ONE group prop that enters and then exists the stage (for example, each female
holding a microphone during a portion of the dance).
12. All props must be ready when the Greek Week Co-Chairs come and preview your
performance. This date will be given at least two weeks in advance and will be given at
the Liaison meeting.
13. Audience and participant behavior is an integral aspect of this competition. Booing
and/or any other derogatory or abrasive comments are strongly prohibited. Every act
should be shown the same courtesy that you want shown to your team during their
performance. Any inappropriate behavior observed from a group will result in first a
verbal warning. If the behavior continues, there may be a point deduction from the total
points your group receives and/or disqualification from the event.
14. Voice-overs with spoken word are allowed but not required. There will be no points
deducted or awarded for the use of or lack of voice-overs.
15. Your act must contain at least ONE costume change. One costume change is mandated,
teams are allowed to change more than once if they wish, but points will only be awarded
for ONE costume change. Uniformity is not mandated and originality is encouraged.
