iATTEND M-DCPS CONSEJOS PARA PASAR UN HALLOWEEN SEGURO, SALUDABLE Y FELIZ

As a result of Hurricane Irma, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) had to cancel seven days of school last month. Even with the loss of the seven instructional days, the District exceeds the minimum instructional hours required by the state in order to participate in the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP). However, the loss of instructional time resulted in impacts to student learning and therefore adjustments to the school calendar were necessary to return this
valuable time to students and teachers. Five dates were converted to regular school days on the Revised
Elementary and Secondary School Calendar. View updates at:http://www.dadeschools.net/calendars/

Attendance matters at M-DCPS.
No factors are more important to a student’s progress in school than regular and punctual attendance.
Students are expected to be present at school each and every day; attend class as scheduled; arrive to school and class(es) on time; and demonstrate appropriate behavior and a readiness to learn.
Parents/guardians are responsible for his/her child’s school attendance asrequired by law and are encouraged to stress the importance of regular andpunctual school attendance with their child.
Halloween is right around the corner and many children will be out at night to trick-or-treat. There are several precautions that parents can take to ensure that their child enjoys a safe, happy, and healthy Halloween.• Be careful when crossing
the street• Put down electronic
devices• Decorate your child’s
costume with reflective tape
• Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully
• Eat a healthy snack
before trick-or-treating• Provide your child with
healthy alternatives to candy

Our students live in a hyper-connected world, spending large amounts of time communicating with family and friends through social media and doing schoolwork/homework in an online environment. Whether at home or school, our students need to know how to be safe, how to use technology appropriately and how to act responsibly when using the Internet or social media. They need to be digital citizens and be able to navigate the digital world in a safe and ethical manner.
