Green Day - Bang Bang

IntertextualityThe music video makes reference to Shakespeare, in particular: ‘Hamlet’. This is done to strengthen the meaning of the lyrics and buff their impact. The story of hamlet shares commonalities with the narrative of the song. One person's inner struggles resulting in a far reaching disaster.

To compliment this, the visual also allude to the story of the lady on the moon

Genre Tropes

In line with the Punk Genre, the band is shown performing; Drums, Bass and Guitar are the stereotypical instruments of Punk and Rock.

Green Day try to present this in a unique way, the spots each member is stuck in moves around the

black space with energetic fever to match the speed of the music. Pop-punk also incorporates

bright colours, which the video follows.

Demands of the Label

The two most marketable aspects of a band is the lead singer and band logo. A

close up of Billie Joe Armstrong helps reinforce his image into the viewer's mind,

while the logo of the band brings a memorable visual to the music.

Visuals, Lyrics & Music

The visuals literally incorporate the lyrics; this is referred to as a lyric video, this allows the audience to sing along or better understand the story of the song. The lyric, “Broadcasting from my room”, is visualised as a house split in two with a giant arm holding an aerial. This is a hyper inflated imagination

of the lyric, giving the words a grander scale of dramatization, while also giving the viewer a more interesting sight than a person broadcasting from

their room. The music is set at a fast tempo, this means that the visuals flash on screen, lasting only for a few seconds before changing.
