DESCRIPTION
Our charge in this project is to design a vacation home that has the lowest possible construction cost and the lowest possible energy consumption. Using SIPs for the entire shell and structure allowed us to have the tightest possible building envelope with a very low material and construction cost. The structural capabilities of the SIPs shell and the site orientation guided the very simple massing of the building. The balance of the design follows the same approach: high efficiency materials and systems that do double duty and are themselves sustainable and inexpensive. The result is a cottage befitting of it\\’s location in stunning the Mettowee River Valley that has the lowest carbon profile available at the time.TRANSCRIPT
