Golf Course & Turf Application Earthworm casts a brief history Excessive earthworm casts are a worldwide problem on sport fields when they disrupt playability, aesthetics and maintenance of playing surfaces. Casting occurs when worms deposit their soil-rich fecal matter as small mounds, called casts, on the surface. They adversely affect ball roll, are muddy and smother the grass when smeared or compacted by foot traffic. In 2009 The Sports Turf Research Institute rated earthworms the number-one problem about which they receive queries. Earthworm tunnels lessen soil compaction and provide passageways through which air and water can percolate, enhancing penetration and growth of plant roots. In addition, earthworm- feeding activity stimulates microbial decomposition of grass clippings and thatch and accelerates nutrient recycling, so a moderate level of earthworm activity is beneficial. During the past 20 years, however, the problem of excessive earthworm castings interfering with play has become more serious and widespread. Why? Residues of old, highly persistent chemicals like chlordane, banned for many years, are finally dissipating from soils and are no longer suppressing earthworms. Toxic insecticides, like Carbenzamin, Carbendazim, Diazinon, Bendiocarb, and Carbaryl are now being replaced by products that are more environmentally friendly. Golf Course & Turf Application

Earthworm casts a brief history

Excessive earthworm casts are a worldwide problem on sport fields when they disrupt playability, aesthetics and maintenance of playing surfaces.

In addition, earthworm-feeding activity stimulates microbial decomposition of grass clippings and thatch and accelerates nutrient recycling, so a moderate level of earthworm activity is beneficial.

A promising new approach is made to managing excessive earthworm casts on sports pitches using Green-T, a by-product of tea oil manufacturing that contains a natural surfactant.

About Green-T.

Green-T is a by-product of tea oil manufacture contains a natural surfactant and is effective for expelling earthworms and suppressing castings on playing surfaces.

Green-T has been formulated into an organic fertilizer suitable for use on all grass sports pitches.

Surfactant-rich natural Green-T is an alternative to synthetic pesticides for alleviating the problems caused by excessive earthworm casts on low-cut playing surfaces. Easy Application… Application is very easy unlike liquid applications which require specialised spraying systems. Simply load the hopper of a standard fertilizer or seed spreader.

Worm Cast Damage

Typical examples of Damage caused by Worm Casts

Application of Green-T and managing of earthworms

Playing Surface Regenerated

DOSAGE:

300kg = 1 hectare (10000m2)

1kg = 33m²

Application Method: Direct spreading followed by watering to dissolve into the soil while cloudy or sunny weather. Not necessary to water during rainy weather.
