I had written the first draft of this report prior to our September 28th meeting. I am so happy to now do a major and much less gloomy revision!

The Board unanimously decided to do a partial reopen-ing of the Clubhouse. While there are some restrictions and some areas which have to remain closed, we wanted to give residents an opportunity, however, limited, to get together and see their friends and neighbors.

As I write this I am hopeful that even more restrictions will be lifted and that as a community we have evaded the second wave of this virus.

As we muddle through this pandemic and live in an often-virtual reality, I want to remind everyone to remain vigilant and guard your health by washing your hands often, maintaining social distancing and wear masks. Check on your neighbors, pick up your phone and call a friend or family member. Stay connected.

Please call the office if you have questions or need something. Work orders can be called in; you don’t have to go to the Clubhouse.

Finally, the holidays are coming. They may not feel the same this year but we can all find something to be thankful for. On behalf of the Board, I wish all of you a peaceful, healthy and happy Thanksgiving.

Donna thanked Kyle Velardi who was recording the meeting. It will be uploaded to the Greenbriar I Friends Facebook page and also the Greenbriar 1 website. Call the office for information on how to view it.

Pat read the minutes of the August 24th meeting. Motion to accept minutes Bill, 2nd Donna. All in favor, motion passed.

Tom Whitty gave the Budget Report. It will be posted.Administrator’s Report - LMS will be taking over our

landscaping by October 2nd. Fall flowers will be planted between October 15th and 20th.

The Communicator will be totally redone and will be installed as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates.

We will have a Trunk or Treat on October 22nd with a rain date of October 29th.

At that time, Rite Aid will also have a Flu shot clinic. Call the office to get your name on the list for the shot. Rite Aid will contact you regarding your medical information.

LMS will begin seeding and cutting starting October 5th.

FYI - Willow Springs does events here free of charge to provide entertainment and a diversion during these difficult times. We had two grilling sessions done on the pool deck; there were two people there - the person doing the grilling and the camera man. There was safe distancing at all times.

We are planning a Christmas event; possibly Caroling. Stay tuned for more information.

President’s Report - Our Communicator has to be replaced. Over the years it has been kept together with band aids and we are no longer able to get parts because it is an analog system. We have engaged an Audio Visual company to update it to a digital system. The cost is approximately $100,000. However, we have just renewed our agreement with COMCAST for them to advertise here and we will receive $100,000 from them, which will cover the cost of updating the Communicator. There will be no assessments or increase in fees to have this done. We are hopeful that it will be completed by the end of October.

There were so many complaints about High Tech, we decided to resign LMS.

There are only three companies large enough to handle a community this size:

decision was made to go back to LMS.The Greenbriar bus schedule will continue as is in-

definitely.We will do a soft opening of the Clubhouse beginning

Monday, October 5th. You must make a reservation to use any of the following facilities by calling the office. Upon entering the front entrance you must sign in. You will have your temperature taken, sanitize your hands and you must wear a mask. If you need to use the restroom, you must use the ones in the back of the auditorium. You must enter and exit through the front doors only. The following things will be available:

the library and there will be a time limit, with four people max at a time.

Tai Chi and the Strength Training classes will be al-lowed with 10 participants at a time. You must contact the facilitators of those events to make reservations.

The Pickleball court will be opened to players. It will be resurfaced in the spring.

There have been many questions about all of the ve-hicles parked in the parking lot. The lot used to store those vehicles was cleared to allow for more space. Your vehicles will be put back next week.

We have been putting $20,000 a month into our reserve account and then depositing it into our investment account every three months. This will enable us to begin replacing the areas of the sprinkler system that need it most.

As previously stated, political flags are not permitted. You may put a sign sized to fit the bottom rung of your window or the same sized sign on your door. The time frame for posting these signs is three weeks prior to the election and one week after. There are some residents who feel the rules do not apply to them, therefore, they will be fined. Also, if you have a contractor working at your house and you place a sign advertising that company, it will be removed.

Tom mentioned in his financial report that we have a $12,000 negative income.

That is because we paid for spraying, but we are in good financial shape.

Tony Gaita - Trustee Election Candidate’s Night will be October 8th and will be held virtually. We are hopeful that it will be aired on the Greenbriar Facebook page and the Greenbriar website by 7 pm that night. Any questions you have for the candidates must be submitted to the office no later than October 6th. The moderator will present the questions to the candidates.

When you receive your ballot in the mail, please be sure to attach the certification portion to the envelop with your ballot. If that is not received, your vote will be invalid. Just a reminder - you must be in good standing in order to vote. That means you are not in arrears in any fees.

Donna - There have been questions about rotating the lawn mowing schedules.

The answer is yes but it was not done this year due to COVID. It will be done next season.

There are many dead crab apple trees and the outside crew is removing the bad ones as quickly as possible. We have a reduced crew but they will get to it.

We cannot open the gym at this time due to the 10 pages of guidelines set forth by the State. We do no have the manpower to do what is required. It has also been suggested that the gym equipment should be moved into the auditorium. The equipment weighs a thousand pounds and the electrical outlets there are not powerful enough to run the equipment.

Let’s Meet – Bruce TiplingBy Carol Yacik

When I first approached Carol Tipling about Bruce and her being my first interview for the Greenbriar Times, she said that unfortunately, they’d already been interviewed. But I was lucky. Carol had already been interviewed but Bruce told her he had not. I spent a lovely afternoon with the Tiplings, learning all about Bruce.

Bruce and Carol have lived in Greenbriar for 15-1/2 years. They recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniver-sary. They had met through a former boss of Bruce’s. Bruce has one daughter, Francesca, from a previous marriage, and two twin grandsons who are 6-1/2 years-old. They live a nice hour’s drive from Brick in Churchville, PA, which is near Langhorne.

Bruce grew up in Spring Lake Heights, attended Manasquan High School and has lived locally his entire life. While a young man, some of his jobs included life-guard duty, short-order cook and a seven-year position at Woolworth’s, working up to assistant manager. During the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the US Navy, where he was an antisubmarine warfare technician on helicopters. Skills he learned in the Navy led him to become quite handy around the house where he’s done some beautiful indoor renovations.

Post-discharge, Bruce began work cleaning carpets for other employers, ended up buying his own equipment in 1980 and ran his own business for commercial and residen-tial customers up until his retirement in April 2019. While cleaning carpets for the Philadelphia Eagles who shared space with the Philadelphia Phillies, Bruce obtained Pete Rose’s autograph while he was taking a shower!

Bruce loves living in Greenbriar because of the sense of community and wonderful friendships Carol and he have made through the years. He’s President of the Greenbriar Golf League with a handicap of around 15 to 18. He loves the Nine and Dine gatherings – play nine holes of golf and eat.

Bruce is an avid local fisherman, lately tuna fishing out of Manasquan. He also enjoys fishing for fluke and strip-ers. An interesting “Jaws-like” story happened recently. At night, Bruce hooked a tuna without propulsion (tail swinging back and forth). As he was reeling the fish in, a mako shark was behind, grasping what was left of the tuna’s tail. Suddenly, close-up, Bruce saw nothing but teeth, big shark teeth, as it proceeded to eat half the tuna which was right on his line!

Bruce is happy to talk to anyone about golf and fishing. He’s so passionate about both.

Recently, Bruce has taken up a new hobby - whittling. This happened when we were being asked to remain home as much as possible due to the pandemic (late winter/early spring). The Tipling’s have a beautiful lighthouse in front of their house. When the wind broke off the top piece, a friend came to fix it and Bruce needed to order a finish for it. Included with the product was a magazine and he spotted a pattern for a dolphin project, made out of wood. Bruce told me that working on his dolphin projects has given him a patience he didn’t know he had.

Bruce and Carol love to travel, particularly in the US, with Alaska being the favorite trip so far (especially for the awesome fishing!). They especially love cruising. Their hope is to one day rent a small RV and drive across the country, making sure to visit stops along the way that they don’t even know about.

What did I learn from talking to Bruce? Well, I learned about golf and fishing, and I learned about woodworking. But what I really learned was how nice it was to spend time with Bruce. He’s like a favorite family member or close friend that you want to bottle up and open whenever you feel sad or lonely. He’s got a smile for you any time you need one and he loves to help neighbors and friends and anyone else for that matter.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Barbara and Joseph to the Community. They have been Brick residents. They are both retirees from Verizon. They chose Greenbriar because we were highly recommended by a close friend.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Susan DiOrio to the Community. She previously lived in Point Pleasant. Currently Susan teaches seventh grade in Point Pleasant Borough Middle School. She decided to move to Green-briar because she wanted to downsize and she heard we were an active adult community. Susan is very happy to be here and she is looking forward to meeting new people and getting involved in all that Greenbriar has to offer.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Janet Blair to the Community. She lived in Kearny, NJ, previously. Janet worked in Procurement for the United States Postal Service. Her family is in this area so she feels comfortable in her decision to move to Brick. Janet loves to swim and garden. She plays volleyball in a league and she plays bocceball in Florida. Janet is a snowbird.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Richard and Debo-rah Schmidt to the Community. They lived in Brielle, NJ, for 26 years. Richard was a respiratory therapist and former business owner and Deborah was a V.P. for information systems in a financial services company. They decided to come to Greenbriar because to be close to their family

and friends. They also felt our amenities are excellent. The Schmidts have met many of their neighbors and felt very welcomed.

Greenbriar would like to welcome John and Sandy to the Community. They came from Florida. He was a railroad engineer. They chose us because they liked it.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Therese and Ryan to the Community. They originally lived in Brick. She was a bookkeeper. They came because they had rented for 2 years and loved it.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Donna and Thomas Wangenstein to the Community. They moved here from Point Pleasant. She was a patent paralegal. Greenbriar was chosen because our Community was known to her because her mom lived here and she loved it.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Kathy Sarro to the Community. She lived in Brielle, NJ, previously. Kathy provided activities at a L.T.C. facility. She chose to live here to be close to her old neighborhood and because we are quiet and clean and affordable.

Greenbriar would like to welcome Barbara Schanck to the Community. She lived in Demarest, NJ. Barbara worked in sales for Unilever in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. She chose Greenbriar because of our location.

A minister decided to do something a little different on Sunday morning. He said, “Today I am going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn that comes to your mind.”

The pastor shouted out “CROSS.” Immediately the congregation started singing in unison, “THE OLD RUG-GED CROSS.”

The pastor then shouted “GRACE.” The congregation began to sing “AMAZING GRACE, how sweet the sound.”

The pastor said “POWER.” The congregation began to sing “THERE IS POWER IN THE BLOOD.”

Then the pastor said “SEX.” The congregation fell into total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to say anything.

Then all of a sudden, way from the back of the church, a little old 87 year old grandmother stood up and began to sing “PRECIOUS MEMORIES.”

Hope this made you laugh, or at least smile!

September Veterans’ Memorial ConcertsSeptember 20 featured Peas & Carrots Band (Billy and Lisa) performing 50’s to 70’s hits. This was a beautiful but cool Fall afternoon and lovely music.

September 27 featured Circle Round the Sun who were rained out during their August performance. We enjoyed their original and their well-known songs of all genres.

Veteran’s CornerSubmitted by Jill Holland

On Thursday, September 24th, many residents were at the gazebo to honor Les Hoadley Jr. who passed away this spring. John Whalen, a retired Army chaplain, led the guests in a flag salute, followed by a prayer. A plaque was placed in the gazebo provided by the Greenbriar office. Les had the idea of building the gazebo about six years ago, and followed through with his idea holding fundraiser to come up with the funds to build it. For the past four summers, many Sunday concerts were enjoyed at the gazebo, thanks to Les and his wife Gail, who worked tirelessly to schedule the musicians. The gazebo pays tribute to all branches of the military and the men and women who served our country.

Bob Scott, nephew of the famous Bobby Byrne, sang the Star Spangled Banner to open the entertainment portion of the day. Bob had the crowd of about 100 sing along with him to a variety of songs. A fun afternoon was had by all.

Bob owns Home Care Assistance, a local company. He, along with Willow Springs sponsored the afternoon of music and refreshments.

If you need assistance with home care, his company can be reached at 732-930-1935. Willow Springs, around the corner on Burnt Tavern Road, is always willing to give tours. They offer rehabilitation services, as well as being a nursing home.

The Veteran’s Association is looking for ‘a few good men’ (or women) to continue the meetings that bring pro-grams for our veterans here in Greenbriar. There are only two people remaining on the board, so please step up and call John Whalen or Joe Castrovinvi if you are interested in helping to keep the association going. Kiwanis CornerThe newest Kiwanis International officers began

the term in October and will serve until October 2021. The President is Art Riley from Westminster, Maryland, President-elect Peter Mancuso from N. Bellmore, New York and Vice President Bert West from Divide, Colorado. Art Riley first joined the Kiwanis in 1980. As a 40 year member he has seen a lot of our recent history. As a young boy he went with his Kiwanis father to the 1956 convention in San Francisco. He then became a Key Club member in the 1960’s. He is a retired pharmacist and now serves as a lay minister at his church. Art also has published a col-lection of religious sermons. I would say the leadership of Kiwanis is in good hands for 2021. The new officers’ goal is membership growth, a difficult goal in these virus times. They state “We are a membership organization. If we don’t grow and change with the world we won’t exist.”

Kiwanis of Greenbriar also has new officers but due to Covid restrictions we are unable to have an installation ceremony at this time.

I would like to give a thank you shout out to the Vet-erans committee, especially Gail and the late Les Hoadley. The concerts at the lake were a real bright spot during the summer isolation. We were able to meet friends and neigh-bors, many for the first time since March. The performers were first rate and we look forward to hearing them again.

The Sewing Group received a request from one of our residents that had a friend whose son-in-law was on a ship and they needed masks. Three members, Claire, Mary and Donna checked and we had all of the fabrics we needed to help out. In one week we made and delivered 205 masks to Debbie. We received a sweet letter and pictures of the crew men and women in response. Our residents keep thanking

Sewing Groupus, but we thank them!! Making masks has helped us all survive this trying time and gave us something to do. So thank you neighbors! We are also in desperate need of towels and men’s cotton button down shirts to make adult bibs and hospital gowns for hospice. If you have any you can call Mary at 732-920-2727 or Donna at 732-859-4520. We can pick up if need by. Thank you Greenbriar residents.


Autumn is here and I’m looking forward to photographing this year’s fall foliage. The leaves are starting to change. Hopefully the colors this year will be spectacular.

Before the colors are at their peak I look for individual trees that have great color. I also scout out areas that I think will look great at peak time so I’ll be ready when the leaves fi nally turn. I prefer areas that have the trees refl ected in water.

Check out the farm markets for some colorful shots and don’t forget the cranberry harvest. Fallen leaves make interesting patterns, so don’t forget to look down. Rolls of hay in the fi elds also make nice images.

A great way to enhance your images is using a polarizing fi lter. This fi lter works the same as polarizing sunglasses – it is designed to cut glare and refl ections. Removing the glare from the leaves makes the colors brighter and more saturated. Simply rotate the polarizing fi lter until the sky or leaves are at their darkest.

Fall Foliage images are best shot on days when there is no wind. By scouting a great location ahead of time, using a polarizing fi lter, and applying good rules of composition you’ll get some fantastic shots of this autumn’s spectacular show.

If we can find hope in the darkest of days, we will surely be able to focus in the brightest! Hope is where energy dwells. Energy helps us to focus on what is important in the here and now. It motivates us to get on the train, instead of sitting in the station. “Hope springs eternal.” To remain hopeful in times of great difficulty, is the path to healing. This is no easy journey, but staying on the path to hope is a lot more healing than the path to hopelessness! It takes a lot of positive thinking to stay on a hopeful path. Focus is the key. Focus is also where energy dwells. Our reality maybe we can no longer be the person we were, and this can happen at any age, so let us open our hearts and minds to the reality we may be different, but wonderful just the way we are!

We focus with our minds. What we believe, we be-come. I can, is always better than I cannot. Here is where we need to keep an open mind, not allowing ourselves to become a harsh judge of ourselves or others.

Dark days ebb and flow. Bright days ebb and flow. To stay hopeful in the dark days is not easy. Focus is so important here. Remember, focus is where healing energy lies. Let us focus on what is important to us today, and let tomorrow take care of itself. The present moment is all we have. Nothing more is promised.

Remember; “Every day is a gift, that is why they call it the present.”

Scarborough Fair and Stella MarinaTwo Favorites

Instead of trying a new place I decided to virtually visit two of my favorite restaurants to see what and how they are doing during this time of outdoor dining and 25% capacity.

The first is Scarborough Fair at 1414 Meetinghouse Road in Sea Girt. This restaurant’s unique architecture has lots of private dining alcoves that seat four; it is perfect for separation. It is usually decorated perfectly for the seasons. The restaurant tries to use fresh, locally grown food. Here are a few items I would love. For appetizer their Fall Harvest Salad with Lacinto Kale, shredded cabbage, spinach, shaved Brussel sprouts, grapes, beets and pumpkin seeds served with a creamy poppy seed dressing makes me want a serving now. The second app I would like to try is braised Wild Boar Sausage. It is served in a malbec cognac demi-glaze. For entrees there is a bacon-wrapped NJ caught Monkfish. This comes with wild rice pilaf and Brussels sprouts. The dish is served with a Rhum painted glaze. The second would be Kevin’s thing, grilled NY strip steak. It comes with a Bavarian potato cake and green beans. There is a bacon jam to add a little more taste. Are you hungry yet? Two desserts to round out the meals. The

first in keeping with the season is a pumpkin cheesecake and the second, if you have any room is Zabaglione Parfait. This is layers of marsala custard with fruit and a cookie. Scarborough Fair is noted for their sauces. Don’t all those food choices make you want to try this restaurant.

My next go to restaurant is Stella Marina at 800 Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park. They have outdoor dining on the boardwalk. For Appetizer I order from their Pasta list a Papparadelle Bolognese which, whoever I am with and I share it. This creamy gravy hits all the right flavor notes for me. The second is Burrata, a creamy mozzarella cheese with a yellow beefsteak tomato, drizzled with basil oil. I love Burrata. For dinner there is Chicken Scarpariella. This is a free range chicken, sweet Italian sausage and potatoes cooked together in a vinegar sauce. They serve it with broc-coli rabe. The second is a huge pork chop rib served with long hot peppers and crispy potatoes. For dessert there is a banana bundino, or a Tiramisu.

So there you have it, two of my favorite restaurants. They both have a wonderful menu. Thank goodness both of them seem to be doing OK during this shutdown.

Can you believe it is November already? So I asked myself what should I submit for a recipe this month. The annual Cook’s Country recipe book for the year of 2008 was sitting there with the other cookbooks so I decided to see what they had to offer. There was a page of cookies. Normally I wouldn’t put this in the paper, however, the days are getting shorter and cooler so here is a nice way to pass the time and delight yourself, your family and your friends. I particularly was drawn to the chocolate turtle and the raspberry almond cookies.

Hazelnut ChewiesMakes about 3 ½ dozen cookies

Jennifer says: “For my birthday I finally got a mixer and have been experimenting with different cookies ever since. This recipe combines elements of three different recipes.” Nutella is a chocolate-hazelnut spread that can be found near the peanut butter in most grocery stores; you will need one 13-ounce jar for this recipe.

3 cups all-purpose flour2 teaspoons baking powder½ teaspoon salt1 ¼ cups Nutella spread (see note)4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened1 1/3 cups granulated sugar1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 teaspoon instant espresso powder2 large eggs1/3 cup milk1 ½ cups hazelnuts, toasted and chopped fine1 cup confectioners’ sugar

1. Adjust oven racks to upper-middle and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 375 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Combine flour, bak-ing powder, and salt in bowl. With electric mixer on medium-high speed, beat Nutella, butter, and granu-lated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add vanilla, espresso, and eggs and mix until just combined. Fold in ½ cup hazelnuts and refrigerate dough until firm, about 1 hour.

2. Place remaining hazelnuts in bowl. Add confectioners’ sugar to another bowl. One at a time, roll dough into 1-inch balls, roll in hazelnuts, then roll in confection-ers’ sugar. Place balls 2 inches apart on prepared bak-ing sheets. Bake until set, about 8 minutes, switching and rotating sheets halfway through baking. Cool 5 minutes on sheets, then transfer to wire rack and cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.

Cranberry Pistachio Coconut Triangles

Makes about 1 ½ dozen cookiesMike says: “I came up with this recipe for my wife,

who absolutely loves pistachios and dried cranberries.”1 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar5 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 5 pieces and chilled1 large egg2 tablespoons maple syrup¾ teaspoon vanilla extract½ teaspoon almond extract½ teaspoon salt1 cup pistachios, toasted and chopped1 cup dried cranberries¾ cup sweetened, shredded coconut2 ounces white chocolate, chopped1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to

375 degrees. Line 8-inch square baking pan with foil, allowing excess foil to hang over pan edges. Grease foil. Process 1 cup flour and 2 tablespoons sugar in food processor until combined. Add butter, 1 piece at a time, and pulse until only pea-sized pieces remain. Press mixture into prepared pan and bake until light golden, about 15 minutes. Cool completely.

2. Whisk egg, syrup, extracts, salt, remaining flour, and remaining sugar in bowl. Fold in pistachios, cranber-ries, and coconut, then spread mixture evenly over cooled crust. Bake until topping is golden and begins to pull away from sides of pan, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool completely.

3. Using foil overhang, lift cookies out of pan. Cut into 2 1/2 –inch squares and cut each square diagonally into 2 triangles. Microwave white chocolate in small bowl, stirring occasionally, until melted, 30 to 60 seconds. Dip cookie corners in melted chocolate and place on wire rack until chocolate sets, about 30 minutes.


Raspberry Almond CookiesMakes about 3 dozen

Bridget says: “My mother-in-law makes these cookies for us every Christmas. They are our family’s favorite.” If you don’t have slivered almonds on hand, 1 ½ cups sliced almonds can be substituted.

2 cups all-purpose flour1 ¼ cups slivered almonds (see note)1 cup sugar16 tablespoons unsalted butter (2 sticks), cut into

½-inch pieces and chilled1 teaspoon vanilla extract½ cup raspberry jam

1. Adjust oven racks to upper-middle and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Process 1 cup flour and almonds in food processor until finely ground. Add ½ cup sugar and remaining flour and process until combined. Add butter and vanilla to food processor and pulse until dough forms.

2. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to ¼ inch thick-ness. Using 2-inch round cookie cutter, cut out cook-ies, gathering and rerolling dough as necessary. Place cookies 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets and bake until light brown around edges, about 15 minutes, switching and rotating sheets halfway through baking. Cool 5 minutes on sheets, then transfer to wire rack.

3. Transfer remaining sugar to bowl. Working quickly, spread 1 teaspoon jam on bottom of half of warm cookies, then press remaining cookies onto jam to form sandwiches. Roll cookies in sugar to coat. Cool completely on wire rack. Repeat with remaining dough.

Cookie StorageThe Fudgy Peanut Butter Mousse Cups can be refriger-

ated in an airtight container for 3 days; the other cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days.

Chocolate Turtle CookiesMakes about 2 dozen cookies

Robin says: “I pride myself on making beautiful cook-ies for family and friends as far away as Australia, Spain, and Japan.”

1 cup all-purpose flour1/3 cup cocoa powder¼ teaspoon salt8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened2/3 cup sugar1 large egg, separated, plus 1 egg white2 tablespoons milk1 teaspoon vanilla extract1 cup pecans, chopped fine14 soft caramel candies3 tablespoons heavy cream

1. Adjust oven rack to upper-middle and lower-middle positions and heat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Combine flour, cocoa, and salt in bowl. With electric mixer on medium-high speed, beat butter and sugar until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add egg yolk, milk, and vanilla and mix until incorporated. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture until firm, at least 1 hour.

2. Whisk egg whites in bowl until frothy. Place pecans in another bowl. One at a time, roll dough into 1-inch balls, dip in egg whites, then roll in pecans. Place balls 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Using teaspoon measure, make indentation in center of each ball. Bake until set, 10 to 12 minutes, switching and rotating sheet halfway through baking.

3. Meanwhile, microwave caramels and cream in a bowl, stirring occasionally, until smooth, 1 to 2 minutes. Once cookies are removed from oven, gently press existing indentations with teaspoon measure. Fill each with ½ teaspoon caramel mixture. Cool 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack and cool completely.

A huge heart, covered in flowers, stood behind the casket during the service.

Following the eulogy, the heart opened, and the casket rolled inside. The beautiful heart then closed, sealing the doctor inside, forever.

At that point, one of the mourners burst into laughter. When all eyes stared at him, he said, “I’m sorry. I was just thinking of my own funeral… I’m a gynecologist.”

Well, this makes Johnny angry so he goes to feed the chickens, and he kicks a chicken. He goes to feed the cows, and he kicks the cow. He goes to feed the pigs and he kicks a pig.

He goes back in the house for breakfast and his mother gives him a bowl of dry cereal. “How come I don’t get any eggs and bacon? Why don’t I have any milk in my cereal?” he asks.

“Well,” said his mother, “I saw you kick a chicken, so you don’t get any eggs for a week. I saw you kick the pig, so you don’t get any bacon for a week either. I also saw you kick the cow, so for a week you aren’t getting any milk.”

Just then, his father comes down for breakfast and kicks the cat halfway across the kitchen.

Little Johnny looks up at his mother with a smile and says: “Are you going to tell him or should I?”
