What are the greenhouse gases? The gases that act as a shield that traps heat in the earth’s atmosphere, resulting in greenhouse effect are called the greenhouse gases. The gases in an atmosphere that absorbs and emits radiation within the thermal infrared range.

Green house gases constitutes:i. Water vapourii. Carbon dioxideiii. Methaneiv. Nitrous oxidev. ozone

Sources of green house gases

burning of fossil fuels and deforestation leading to higher carbon dioxide concentrations in the air.use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in refrigeration system agricultural activities, including the use of fertilizers, that lead to higher nitrous oxide (N2O) concentrations.

What do greenhouse gases do?

What is the result of greenhouse effect?

The climate change….

What is climate?

The meteorological conditions, including temperature, precipitation, and wind, that characteristically prevail in a particular region.

defined as the weather averaged over a long period.

Page 8: Greenhouse gases and the global climate change

How do greehouse gases change the climate?

Climate change happens when certain elements in the atmosphere allow sunlight to pass freely, yet trap the light that is reflected back. Light enters the earth freely, but instead of leaving the atmosphere after reflecting off the ground, it gets trapped and the earth just keeps on getting warmer and warmer.

What is a climate change? Rising concentrations of greenhouse gases generally produce an increase in the average temperature of the Earth. Rising temperatures may, in turn, produce changes in weather, sea levels, and land use patterns, commonly referred to as “climate change.”

…then what should our concern be?A. Delay childbearing or have fewer

childrenB. Eat locally.C. Buy energy-efficient appliances

with the "Energy Star" label.D. Buy durable goods.E. Reduce the usage of refrigerants

and air-conditioners.F. Avoid using plastic bags from

grocery stores.
