Dear Greenmount families
Early Childhood Area
Work is currently underway on extending our Nature Play Areas in the Early Childhood Area. These are being enhanced to include an
extension to the outdoor kitchen, a bridge to connect the sand pit area with the grass area and also some decking for the students to play on. All these areas should be completed by the end of the week!

PRINCIPAL
National Reconciliation Week at Greenmount Primary School
Assembly: Friday, June 2nd
at 8.45am
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) runs annually from 27 May – 3 June.
These dates mark two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey: The
1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision, respectively.
2017 marks two significant anniversaries in Australia’s reconciliation journey –
50 years since the 1967 referendum, and 25 years since the historic Mabo
decision. At Greenmount Primary we will commemorate these significant
milestones, and reflect on our nation’s reconciliation journey.
On Friday, June 2nd, our school will be holding a Reconciliation Week
Assembly. Our Aboriginal students will
perform a dance and talk to our students about
Reconciliation.
We would like to invite parents and the school
community to attend.
The assembly will take place at 8.45 am in the
undercover area.

Scitech is coming to Greenmount!
The team from Scitech—Science After School will be coming to Greenmount Primary
to run some awesome hands on Science sessions again this year!
Students from Years 3 & 4 are eligible for the Make ‘n’ Take workshop ($44) and
students from Years 5 & 6 are eligible for the Animatronics workshop ($55).
If you are interested in these fabulous workshops, forms and payment must be
handed in to the front office together.
The fee covers 4 sessions (Wk 6—Wk 10) and covers all materials.
There are only 20 places for each program. First in, first served and places are
filling fast.
Make ‘n’ Take consists of Air Surfers, Fizzy Things, Jitterbugs and Slimy Science.
Animatronics uses the Hummingbird robotics kits and encourages students to explore
codings and robotics from scratch, constructing an Animatronic robot using recycled
materials and programing it to react to a stimulus.

Year 6 Camp to Fairbridge Farm The Year 6 overnight camp to Fairbridge was a
wonderful experience—and thankfully the
weather was great!
The students participated in a range of team
building activities over the two days which
included: Orienteering, a high ropes course, rock
wall climbing, a massive flying fox, a big swing,
archery, Mini Golf and a 5km night walk.
It was a great opportuni-
ty for the students to get
to know each oth-
er better, building
lasting friendships
and taking risks in
a fun way .
Thank you to all the Teachers who
organised the camp and a very big
thank you to Mr Tolj who came as our parent helper.

Kalamunda Cup Basketball Competition
Tuesday 23rd May
Ray Owen Sports Centre
This year at the Kalamunda Cup Basketball Competition Greenmount Primary
School sent three basketball teams: Boys All Stars (nicknamed the
Greenmount Giants), Girls All Stars and a Boys Future Stars (nicknamed the
Greenmount Gremlins). All our players (and our parents) were excited to
enter the Kalamunda Cup Basketball Competition for the third time.
Our competitors included Falls Road, Walliston, Bannister Creek, Carmel
Adventist and Landsdale Christian. All players settled their nerves by playing
their first game well and burning off a lot of energy.
Our Boys Future Stars (Greenmount Gremlins) consisted of only Year 3 and 4
students. They played well, learning and improving each game. This was our
goal. It was a great experience of a competitive sport environment.
The All Star Girls were so excited to put all
the weeks of training into a competitive game
situation. Under the control of their coach,
Nicolette Punaivaha, the Girls only lost one of
their round-robin games and easily won their
playoff final to make the Grand Final. The
Girls were very competitive, and only trailed
by 4 points at half time and only went down
by 10 points at the final buzzer. Finishing
runner-up in their first competition was a
wonderful end to their competition.
The Boys All Stars (Greenmount
Giants) were quietly confident
of a good showing at the
Kalamunda Cup competition
having won two years ago. Under
the eyes of their coach, Brooke
Desmond, the boys were cool,
calm and collected. Controlling in
defence and slick in offence saw
the Giants win every game including the Grand Final. All that hard work
payed off and now the boys are headed to the District Finals before
hopefully progressing to the Perth Championships in December.
It was a great team effort and as always Greenmount Primary displayed
great sportsmanship.
Mr Hodgson
