It’s hard to believe that the cohort of 2016-17 has graduated! This always brings with it a tremendous sense of accomplishment. So many things have been accomplished this month. From a fantastic Graduation Day ceremony, a mega science exhibition, a terrific talent show, a movie morning for our fifth graders to intensive revision sessions for 12th graders – our students have been involved in an extraordinary number of activities. Of course, we should not forget the tremendous amount of learning which has taken place during this month. Throughout all of these activities our students have demonstrated a great character! First Graders had their first taste of poetry at a session where they not only recited poetry in their musical voices, but also wrote a few of their own poems. Bugs and nature were the favourite topics of our little ones. This was one of the ways to give the first graders a taste of poetry appreciation, sound and the rhythm of lyrics. At the glittering extravaganza, the students strutted around in neat suits, colourful sarees and fine dresses holding their diplomas with pride. The Chief Guest, Mr. Kishore Biyani, owner of the Future Group shared the interesting anecdotes on his journey to the top of the corporate table from very humble beginnings. He asked the students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit to become the future business leaders and to take the country forward. Mr. D’Mello and Mr. Bijay Aggarwal, in their turn, extended their good wishes to the graduates in saying how they should cherish and treasure the values learned at the School on their onward journey in making this world a better place. The valedictorian Pawan Chitta spoke fondly about his memories and he was very appreciative of his teachers at Greenwood. The MSP and IB students presented a spectacle to behold with touching numbers, devotional chants, inspiring duets and classical dances. No less was the rendition of “Hear You Me” by the graduating band comprising Josh, Jibril, Ananya and Shreya. Ruhi, Shelly and Suchita then shared their touching IB Memories with the audience to great applause. Their slides presented personality types in the class and also predicted “Who’s Most Likely To?” become what in the future eliciting huge laughs from the audience. The icing on the cake was the pretty pantomime performance drawing huge appreciation from the guests and students alike. The amazing effect of white hands flawlessly creating scenes on a dark background wishing the graduates good luck left everyone spellbound. A lavish dinner fare, music, dancing and photography made for a fitting finale to this memorable evening. GARDEN April 11: Pollinator Garden As part of its ever-increasing focus on saving the environment, Greenwood launched a pollinator garden project on its campus. The garden is meant to be a unique mélange of different plants and colourful flowers to help attract the increasingly vulnerable numbers of birds, hover flies, butterflies, moths and flower beetle bees. Pollinators play a big role in the desperation of vital seeds which in turn helps in the growth of many trees which are essential for our survival. As the name suggests, the garden will help maintain the delicate ecosystem of the area. This is a joint initiative of the school’s environmental and garden clubs. Talented Trio TALENT SHOW April 18: MSP Talent Show After weeks of tireless practice, immense dedication to their craft and going through admittedly intense auditions, the finalists were ready to get up on stage and shine their way through the annual MSP Talent Show. There was a huge array of acts, from melodious musicals to beautiful songs, energetic dances and an act where the students did an impression of their favorite musical celebrities. It was clear that the participants left the audience spellbound when Mr. D’Mello himself reminisced, “these performances were inspiring enough to take me back to my own school days.” In third place were Chirag and Akhila who had performed a song and Indian regional dance respectively. Second place was awarded to Rohit and Kavin who played a beautiful guitar duet. First place was swooped away graciously by Neha who performed her rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ that left the entire audience with goosebumps and their mouths wide open in awe. Innovation at Invenio: Technology for Challenges Science Exhibition April 22: Invenio: Technology for Challenges Science Exhibition Invenio was a platform for the budding scientists, innovators, inventors and technologists of the future. Through this science exhibition, the MSP as well as the IG/IB students were able to demonstrate a plethora of skills learned not only in the classrooms but also beyond, a ubiquitous feature of learning at Greenwood High. The exhibition involved the underlying G4 project where students collaborated with each other demonstrating their rich knowledge of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Design Technology. Holograms, microbial fuel, a transport pod based on Hyperloop, electricity generation from fruit juices, unbreakable starch rice for diabetics, sustainable farming and mosquito repellent made using Citronella were just a few of the standout models presented at the exhibition. The inquisitive, global-conscious and problem-solving minds of our future scientists at MSP were also at full glory as they effortlessly displayed their pacemakers, rayon fibres, RFID readers, model GPS, a light sensing robot, radioactive-proof headgears and bionic limbs, arms for the blind and other projects validating the exhibition theme that the students at Greenwood are technology-equipped to take on the challenges of a demanding future. To our graduates – congratulations on your achievement! We at Greenwood wish you all the very best as you move onto conquer newer heights after your exams. If this is your last child to leave GWH, the staff would like to thank you for your support and for the guidance that you have provided for your child / childern. We look forward to hearing from the graduates in the future and we hope that each of them have gained a firm foundation for their education while at GWH. The IGCSE exams have already begun from April 25 and the forthcoming May and June will involve plenty of revisions and then the final summative exams will keep everybody busy. Therefore, on behalf of all at Greenwood, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and a happy summer. April 10: Movie Morning Students of grade V had their movie day out at Forum Value Mall in Whitefied. The students watched the movie, “Poorna” which is an inspirational story about the youngest girl ever to climb the Mt. Everest. The story left a deep impression on the young minds about how nothing is impossible to achieve if you set your mind and heart on it. Movie Morning with Grade V
