Handwriting – practise forming letters , numbers & your name using a variety of different materials – brush in water (outside) , chalk , finger in a tray of salt / lentils / rice / paint etc Dough Disco – choose your favourite song & make up your own finger dance using a small ball of dough (eg roll , knead , press , splat , poke etc) The children have done this activity lots of times before in class so should be able to demonstrate it to you ! It is great for exercising their hand muscles & fingers which helps with writing/pencil grip. Keep a look out on our Nursery Link page for more Dough Disco. Jolly Phonics – refresh all songs – they are all available on youtube. Flipper Flappers – using a small piece of fabric in each hand & make big arm movements in the air using your whole body. (We usually use “Eye Level” as our backing music for this but feel free to choose your own!) We usually form some big numbers , letters & shapes in the air. Don’t forget to

Mathematical Activities Number – Do the Number Rap together. Stand up & pretend to be a rocket, bumble bee, ballerina, robot, dinosaur etc & practice counting up to 20. Take this further if your child is ready. - Sing number songs together eg 12345 once I caught a fish alive , 10 Little tractors . - Practice forming numbers correctly using a variety of materials. -Make a collection of coins , sort them into piles & identify the number on each. Shape and Space circles – using circles of different materials & sizes , make a snake. Eg buttons , cut out circles , lids , stickers Talk about the edge of the circle – is it pointy or round ? How many sides does it have ? Does it roll ?

make your movements go high & low ! Reading & Oral Language – Talk activity - find a farm picture or book and talk about it together. What can you see ? What happens next ? Make up a story or extend the story. Make 2 flashcards – cow & pig. Which one says cow ? Which one says pig ? How do you know ? Writing – Find out about cows or pigs. What sounds do they make ? What are their babies called ? Where do they live on the farm ? Talk about similarities & differences. Make a little book all about them. Draw, cut & stick pictures & do some emergent writing on each page. You could even have a go at writing cow or pig. Don’t forget to put your name on the front cover because you are the author & illustrator ! Welsh – Sut mae’r tywydd heddiw ? Sing the song together & chat in Welsh about the weather each day.
